ANDRIETTE

I kept my eyes glued to the face of my watch, my sneakers squeaking faintly against the polished hallway floor. The harsh ring of the morning bell echoed through the corridor, making me roll my eyes. Late. Again.

Whatever. It’s not like the world is going to end.

A heavy arm slung over my shoulders, dragging me slightly to the side. I didn't even need to look up to know who it was—only one person on this entire campus had the nerve to touch me like that.

"What do you want now, Dixon?"

ANDRIETTE"I won't."I blew out my cheeks, trying to steady my rising irritation. I squeezed my eyes shut, drawing a deep, calming breath through my nose. When I opened them again, I shot a harsh, warning glare at both of them. Claude simply raised a condescending brow, while Dixon offered a small, sheepish grin."Are you going to let go, or do I need to make you?"Claude let out a low sigh, his fingers slipping away from my right wrist first. I immediately snapped my gaze to Dixon, whose hand was still clamped around my left."Release," I ordered sharply. He shook his head with a quiet sigh before easing his grip. "Sorry," he mumbled.I pulled my hands back, rubbing the faint red marks left on my skin. "Whatever."Running a hand through my hair, I looked back and forth between the two of them. "Next time you two decide to have a dick-measuring contest, leave me out of it. You're both aggravating as hell.""Then stop meddling in matters that don't concern you, dimwit," Claude retorted

ANDRIETTEI glanced around the classroom, noticing the missing seats in our little group."What is taking them so long?" I complained, tapping my fingernails against the wooden desk.Alexis hopped over, casually sliding into Dixon's vacant chair. "You know, Dri, whenever it comes to actual intelligence, you and I aren't top of the class.""Speak for yourself!" I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest.Dixon, Adhaya, Leticia, and Evelyn had all been called out by our Biology teacher because they scored the highest marks on yesterday's quiz. Even Claude was in that group. Why wasn't I included?I actually stayed up late studying after I got home last night! How did I still miss the top tier?A few minutes later, the group finally strolled back into the room. Alexis scrambled out of Dixon's seat the second she saw them walk through the door."What took you guys forever?" Alexis asked, turning to her sister."Since Evelyn and Leticia are transfers, they were required to review the school

ANDRIETTE"Can't I just stay home?" I groaned, leaning against the side of the car.My mother shot me an unamused look as she opened the driver's side door. "Keith isn't coming either. Am I supposed to go everywhere alone?"I rolled my eyes as quietly as possible while sliding into the passenger seat. "Why did you let Keith off the hook anyway? Neither of us wanted to come."I plucked a stray piece of lint off the skirt of my dress, letting out a heavy pout. My mother caught my expression in the rearview mirror and shook her head with a light sigh. The rest of the drive was drowned in total silence. She didn't bother starting a conversation, knowing my eyes were glued to my phone screen the entire time. Talking felt like too much energy anyway.I kept scrolling until the smooth motion of the car slowed to a final stop. Dropping my phone into my leather shoulder bag, I peered through the tinted window. My eyebrows pulled together the moment I registered our surroundings."Why are we he

"Chill out. I’m not here to cause trouble."I rolled my eyes, grabbing his wrist and shoving his arm off me with enough force to make my point. "I told you to stop throwing your arm over me like we're old buddies."Instead of taking the hint, he just flashed me a playful grin, shoving his hands casually into his pockets. Must be nice walking around without a single care in the world.---"Are you sure there's nothing going on betw

ANDRIETTE"You seem to have forgotten that raising your hand against a girl isn't a good look, Moore."I jerked my head toward Dixon's voice. He was holding Claude's wrist in a firm, unyielding grip, his eyes deadly serious."H-Hey," I mumbled, trying to defuse the sudden tension.Dixon glanced at me, his sharp expression melting into a quick smile. He released Claude’s wrist and casually shoved his hands into his pockets."Mind your own business, Morris," Claude snarled, still fuming."It's definitely not my business, but you shouldn't lay a hand on a girl. Violence isn't going to fix whatever you're throwing a tantrum about," Dixon replied calmly.I swallowed hard. Seeing him so quiet and imposing was a complete shock."Are you even half the man you pretend to be?" Dixon added with a taunting smirk."I don't want to get into it with you again, Morris. If I were you, I'd step back." Claude locked his eyes on me, trying to intimidate me with a cold glare. I just raised an eyebrow, com

"Dixon Morris?!"I quickly slapped my hand over Adhaya's mouth. "Keep your voice down," I hissed."Did I hear that right? You actually met Dixon?"I nodded. "What's wrong with that?""If you hate Claude and you met Dixon, that means...""What?""You two are teaming up?" she concluded.I gave a half-shrug. Dixon had told me we shouldn't talk at school, which meant I couldn't tell her about our deal, either."Gosh, Andriette. Stay out of whatever mess those two have going on. They are not easy to deal with," she warned."What do you mean?""I don't know the full story of what happened between them. All I know is they've been at each other's throats forever. They fight over literally everything." She frowned, rolling her eyes under her breath.Right. Adhaya hated drama and conflict."Like what?""Take the Student Council election, for example. They were both running for President, and Dixon was projected to win by a landslide. But then Dixon suddenly withdrew his candidacy, and voila—Cla
