CHAPTER-1 EMBASSY MEETING

ELLA~

Oh my God! “What the hell, Janice?” I jerked awake as a bucket of ice-cold water hit my face with such force that it almost drowned me in my sleep. I struggled to breathe, gasping like a fish out of water.

This freaking little brat just threw a whole damn bucket of ice-cold water on me. She is my younger sister Janice, a 17-year-old teen who goes to Columbia University. I love her a lot but when it comes to waking up early in the morning, I’m no less than an angry wolf on bloodlust.

“What? Don’t yell at me. I was trying to wake you up for the last 30 minutes.” Janice snapped back.

I glared at her with all the intensity I could muster as she rolled her eyes at me. Internally, I was thinking of ways to torture her. Getting irritated as I couldn’t come up with a single way to avenge my peaceful sleep, I asked “Why did you wake me up?” She simply smiled and sprawled beside me, cooing “Just look at the time.”

My brows furrowed in confusion, wondering what she meant by that. I turned my gaze to meet the alarm clock resting on the bedside table. I was annoyed, sleepy and hungry all at once and I just wanted to go back to dreamland. My eyes widened in horror as I stared at the clock. “Oh no! Janice, I’m late for my appointment! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?”I shrieked, jumping out of the bed.

I limped running to the bathroom, bumping into everything in my way. Recently, I got selected for the translator position at the embassy. And I was supposed to be there for the paperwork, document submission, medical checkup and all that kind of official crap. I quickly stripped off my clothes and completed my daily routine as fast as possible.

As I washed the soap off my body, I heard Janice shouting from the other side, giggling like a maniac in between. “Like I said, I tried but you didn’t budge, not even a little, you snail.” I groaned at the stupid nickname she gave me a few years back, just because I do things at my own pace. I don’t understand what everyone’s problem is.

“Shut up, you toddler, just be ready for your turn.” I yelled back, while she must have been making faces at her own nickname. What? It’s a give and take relationship. ‘I won’t spare anyone messing with me.’ I smirked evilly at the thought. I heard the sound of the door opening and closing with a thud as she left my room. “Poor baby.” I groaned at her overacting.

I stepped out of the bathroom and changed into a pair of grey dress pants and a crisp white shirt with a smooth texture. I was ready for the meeting. ‘You are going to rock this, Ella!’ I gave myself a pep talk, feeling confident and determined.

Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, making me feel giddy and nervous at the same time. I couldn’t mess this up, it was my only chance to prove myself. I was super excited for this opportunity, because it meant that I could finally be independent and that feeling was indescribable.

The euphoria was on another level. Since today wasn’t my joining date, I could go for less formal clothes, but not too tight as I didn’t want to make a bad impression on the first meeting. So, I completed my outfit with black heels and my cute little side bag that I adored. It was my baby, mom had gifted it to me a few days ago. I dashed out of my room and ran downstairs.

I saw mom standing at the bottom of the staircase, trying to put on an angry face (which she was failing miserably) so that I would eat my breakfast before leaving but nothing was going to stop me now. Because, thanks to me, I was freaking late. I ran past her towards the front door. I was about to open it when I heard her yell at me for not eating anything. I quickly turned around and stopped by her side, giving her a quick peck on her cheek. Then I ran back towards the door, shouting “I love you, mom!” With that, I stormed out of the house and got into my baby. It was an Audi A6 that I had saved up for and bought on my own.

At last I am on my way to my destination. Hopefully nothing will go wrong now, fingers crossed!

Soon I reached the embassy, I am standing here outside the building just admiring the view. I am so mesmerized by it that I forgot I am late. Looking at the building my heart thumps frantically, buckle up Ella you have only 5 mins left to get in there. Coming out of the car I start running.

just as I reach at the entrance, my thoughts are full of me being late and I didn't realize when I suddenly collides with something or someone very hard, ohh ghissh...

I stumble backwards rubbing my forehead with my right hand. With a Scrunched face I look up only to notice that someone's back is facing me and he's talking on the phone clearly yelling maybe he doesn't get bothered by me. I realize I am late so I quickly ran towards the reception area.
