[WARNING: MATURE CONTENT] Maisie is raised on a remote private island owned by her wealthy, controlling family. As the eldest daughter of her parents, she is groomed from childhood to be the perfect and obedient woman. Her every move is strictly monitored, and any defiance is met with harsh discipline from her misogynistic father. While her siblings are afforded freedom, Maisie feels like a caged bird whose spirit is slowly being crushed under the weight of her family's antiquated traditions. She dreams of one day spreading her wings. However, her glimmer of hope is abruptly extinguished when her father informs her he has arranged for her to marry the notoriously cold and ruthless son of a business associate in a strategic move to strengthen the family's corporate empire. Though apprehensive about being shackled to a man rumored to be a beast, Maisie agrees, desperate to finally earn her father's approval and love. The wedding takes place and Maisie is whisked away to her new husband's chilling villa, a place as bleak as its master. Will Maisie find freedom and happiness in her new home, or has she merely been transported to a new hell? Can she tame the beast and thaw his frozen heart? Or will their union finally tear Maisie's soul apart?

I woke up with a sense of contentment and excitement.
The sky was bright blue this morning.
My face bloomed into a bright smile when I spotted his familiar towering figure with looks to kill standing before the floor-to-ceiling mirror in our dressing room.
The door was open and I could see him clearly from where I lay tangled in the silky sheets of our massive bed.
I gently rose and padded my bare feet across the plush carpet to cross the room toward where he stood, straightening his tie and running a hand through that thick, perfectly coiffed dark hair.
God, he was so insanely handsome it almost didn't seem fair.
"Good morning, handsome," I greeted in a sweet, slightly sing-song voice as I spread my arms open to wrap around his narrow waist from behind, nuzzling my face against the expensive fabric of his suit jacket.
He always looked so powerful and dominant in a suit.
Instead of melting into my embrace, he stiffened slightly. "Now's not the time, Maisie. I have an emergency business meeting," he said in that familiar clipped, all-business tone as he straightened his tie once more.
I froze, feeling a familiar pang at his cold words. So much for my planned romantic morning.
"Oh...okay. I understand," I replied, trying to keep the disappointment out of my voice as I slowly dropped my arms from around him.
He didn't even spare me a glance and grabbed his briefcase off the dresser. "I'll be busy so don't wait up," he threw over his shoulder before heading straight for the door, not even looking back.
"Jason, wait!" I called out desperately, causing him to pause with his hand on the doorknob.
I knew I sounded pathetic. My voice was laced with sadness and neediness, but I didn't care. "It's our anniversary. I thought maybe we could do something together tonight. Just the two of us?"
His broad shoulders tensed up for a split second before relaxing back into his infuriatingly indifferent demeanor. "Maisie, we can celebrate another time."
"Another time?" I cried out before I could stop myself, feeling tears prick the corners of my eyes from the sting of rejection. "Jason, we never celebrate anything! You're always working or away on business trips. When am I supposed to be a priority in your life?"
Finally, he turned to face me fully and I saw the flicker of annoyance pass through his striking features, those emerald green eyes I loved so much now glazed over with impatience and irritation.
"Don't start this again," he said in a low warning tone, jutting out his chiseled jaw. "You know how it is, the sacrifices that come with my status and success. This is what you signed up for when you married me."
I opened my mouth to protest, to point out that his success and wealth shouldn't mean sacrificing his marriage and my happiness. That I deserved more from him as his wife, his partner. But he had already turned away again, not wanting to hear it.
"I have to go. We'll talk more when I'm back," he said dismissively before pulling open the door and walking out without another word or backward glance.
I was left staring after him with a familiar hollow ache settling into my chest as the door clicked shut.
Unconsciously, my hands moved to smooth over the sexy black dress I had bought specially for tonight - a sleek, figure-hugging number from Alexander McQueen I knew he would love.
My throat felt tight as I blinked back traitorous tears.
I tried to push aside the sting of rejection, plastering on a fake smile and I gave myself one last onceover in the mirror.
This was just how things were, I told myself for the hundredth time. As the wife of such a powerful, wealthy, successful man, I had to accept that his work and status would always come first before me. Before anything or anyone else in his life.

Hours later, I returned home earlier from a very tiring lecture at college so I could prepare and get ready to surprise Jason for our anniversary, even though he had brushed me off earlier about celebrating.
I got dressed in the tight black dress, allowing the stretchy material to hug every curve. I did a light touch-up on my makeup, keeping it soft and natural but glamorous.
I smiled at my reflection in the mirror, admiring how the intricate lace detailing on the dress complemented my pale skin and auburn hair while feeling a surge of hope and determination.
Maybe if Jason saw how much effort I put into looking nice for him, he would change his mind about going out together.
Just then, my phone beeped from across the room.
I hurriedly padded over to grab it off the nightstand, my heart leaping. Maybe it was Jason, having a change of heart and deciding to take me out after all!
However, the smile instantly faded from my face when I read the message from an unknown number:
"Dear Maisie, do you know where your beloved husband is right now? He's currently at the Harding Luxurious Hotel and Suites with a very beautiful-looking woman. I thought you might want to know. - From a concerned friend."
I stared at the message, rereading it over and over as my stomach twisted into a sickening knot.
It...it couldn't be true, could it? Jason would never do that to me. We might have our problems, but he loved me. He had to.
I tried to brush it off as a cruel prank, but I couldn't ignore the persistent nagging doubt that started gnawing away at the back of my mind.
What if it was true? What if my husband, my supposedly faithful partner, really was being unfaithful right now? With some gorgeous woman, on our anniversary of all days?
I felt numb and sank down on the edge of the bed, still clutching my phone.
Part of me desperately wanted to believe this was all one big misunderstanding. But the other part...the darker, more cynical voice I tried so hard to silence whispered how I already knew the painful truth deep down.
I was merely fooling myself, deluding myself into accepting Jason's lies and excuses because I couldn't accept the reality of him betraying me like this.
Numbly, I reached for my purse and slipped on a pair of heels before calling my driver to pick me up out front.
If this message was true if Jason really was at that hotel right now...then I had to know for sure. I couldn't go on living in blissful ignorance any longer.
MAISIEI froze, then rushed closer to her. "Lily, what did you say? Say it again!"She placed her tiny palm on my cheek."Amma!"It wasn't perfect, but it was close enough. After months of trying, she'd finally said something resembling "Mama."Joy exploded through me like fireworks. I started bouncing up and down, unable to contain my excitement."She said it! She said 'Mama'! Did you hear that? She called me 'Mama'!" I shouted, throwing my arms wide and then forming a big heart shape with them for Lily.Suddenly, I realized I hadn't captured this momentous occasion. "Wait, I need my camera! This is important!"I started frantically searching through my bag. "Don't say anything else until Mama comes back with the camera, okay?" I called over my shoulder as I dug through my belongings.I've always been one to wear my emotions openly, especially happiness. After everything I'd been through in my life, I'd promised myself I would never downplay joy when it came my way. I would celebrate
MAISIEI was making my way back from checking on Don and his friends who were busy taking photos and being typical teenagers when Lily suddenly began squirming in my arms, making urgent sounds and pointing.Don had asked us to keep his relationship with Jason private at school. As far as his classmates knew, Jason was just his stepfather, the school principal who had married his mom.I understood his need for privacy; teenage social dynamics were complicated enough without adding that layer.Lily's movements became more insistent, drawing my attention back to her. She was staring fixedly at something, her little body practically vibrating with excitement.Following her gaze, I realized we were standing near the elephant enclosure. A massive African elephant was resting in the shade of a large tree, separated from us by sturdy metal bars and a deep moat.I moved closer to the viewing area, and Lily immediately grabbed onto the bars, her eyes wide with wonder as she took in the enormous
MAISIEI turned back to face her, noting the familiar look of contempt that always appeared whenever Karina's name came up.Miriam had disliked her from the start, but her hatred had intensified after I'd explained the full story of how Karina had conspired with Jason's brother Jared, how she'd betrayed years of friendship with Jason just to trap him in a relationship."What's she done now?" I asked, not entirely sure I wanted to know.My feelings toward Karina were complicated. For a long time, I'd seen her as nothing but a manipulative obstacle standing between Jason and me. Then, during our final confrontation, I'd glimpsed something else—a young woman crushed under the weight of family expectations and desperate choices. However, that brief moment of sympathy had evaporated when Jason finally told me everything. The extent of her deception, the calculated way she'd worked with Jared to keep Jason tied to her... I'd never wished anyone ill except for Jared, but Karina had earned a
MAISIE"It's okay, sweet girl," I murmured, holding Lily close as our car pulled away from the driveway. Her eyes were still watery, her little chest occasionally hitching with the aftermath of tears. She'd been crying for Don, who had left earlier with Chen and their friend to meet us at the zoo.Don had snuck out while Lily was distracted with her toys, but she'd noticed his absence almost immediately. It was almost comical how both her father and brother would try to slip away unnoticed, terrified of upsetting a twenty-month-old."Come on, Lily," I said brightly, trying to distract her. "Say 'Mama'!"I'd been trying to coax her first words for weeks now. However, she seemed determined to take her time. The pediatrician assured us it was normal. Some children were simply more observant before they started speaking still I couldn't help feeling a little anxious.Lily ignored my prompting, becoming fascinated with the buttons on my jacket instead. She leaned forward, her chubby finger
MAISIEThe next morning, I emerged from a quick shower and headed to the dressing room to get ready for the day.I'd passed by Lily's room earlier and found both her and Jason still asleep, though she had somehow migrated onto his chest, her favorite sleeping position since she was born.Whenever she was with one of us while sleeping, she'd inevitably crawl up and settle herself on our chest, her ear pressed against our heartbeat.I pulled on ripped jeans, a white tank top, and a soft gray blazer, then headed back to the nursery, eager to tell Jason about his unprecedented night of sleep. When I reached Lily's room, the bed was empty. I found them on the other side of the room, where Jason was sitting on the floor with Lily in his lap, carefully putting tiny shoes on her feet. She looked adorable in a white sundress, her hair tamed into two small pigtails.I was about to speak when Don appeared behind me with Lily's sippy cup of milk in his hand."Time for breakfast, everyone," he ann
MAISIE~A couple of years later~I gave birth to the most beautiful little girl in the world two years after our wedding. We named her Lily, after Jason's mother. Sometimes I call her Lil when she's being especially cute, which is pretty much all the time.It was actually my suggestion to name her after his mother. I knew it would make Jason happy, and it truly did. The way his eyes lit up when I proposed it—that moment alone was worth it.Now she's one year and eight months old, toddling around our home with a determination that makes us all smile.Lily has filled our lives—mine, Jason's, and Don's—with a kind of joy I never knew existed. Her little voice, still forming words but full of expression, makes the whole house feel alive. She's become the unexpected glue that has truly brought our family together.Don had accepted my relationship with his father, but in those early days after the wedding, he still spent most of his time with his best friend. He was trying to adjust to this
