Julian

I don't know why I told her to stay.

That's the truth of it, stripped down to nothing. She crosses her arms, her chin lifting, and I have no real answer for why I said the words out loud instead of letting her walk.

Nineteen. Barely legal. My dick doesn't seem to have gotten the message, and it's making a fool out of every rule I've lived by for the last decade.

"Let me get one thing straight. When you said, 'For however long I stay in this house, I'll do as you say'... what exactly do you mean by that?"

"What do you think I mean?" I ask, shoving my hands into my pockets.

"Mr. Macini..."

"Julian."

She looks at me, a little stunned that I just gave her permission to call me by my first name.

Another decision I've made this morning without thinking it through.

Having her call me Mr. Macini would have kept a clear boundary between us. But the moment the word left my mouth, I realized I'd just erased that boundary myself.

"Julian."

My name rolls off her tongue like honey, tasting, and a depraved part of me pictures exactly what it'd sound like coming out of her mouth with my cock buried deep in her cunt.

I swallow back my lust.

"I'm not a whore," she says, and I wonder where that came from. "The money you're paying me is to watch your daughter. Sex is off the table, if that's what you meant by what you said."

I scoff, the corner of my mouth curving into a smile. "You don't have to worry about that. You're not exactly my type."

Her face falls at that, looks almost like she's disappointed I said it, but she holds her defiant composure, refusing to crack.

"Deal or no deal, kid. I don't have all day." I check my watch.

"Deal," she says. "But I need to go home first. Pick up a few of my things. I'm not wearing your clothes all weekend."

"Fine. I'll take you."

She hesitates, then asks it fast, like ripping off a bandage. "How do you want to pay? Now, or half now and the rest later?"

Something in my chest goes flat. Of course. "I'll write you a check."

"Perfect." Relief floods her face, and she doesn't bother hiding it.

I check my watch again. "Twenty minutes."

She disappears down the hall. Every woman who's walked through this house has had a price. She just named hers fast.

She's no different from the rest of them.

My study is quiet by the time I get there, the kind of quiet I actually prefer. Luca's already waiting with a folder tucked under one arm, and the look on his face tells me whatever's inside it isn't good news dressed up politely.

"The Delgado shipment came in short." He drops the folder on the desk. "Twelve percent under what we agreed."

I flip it open. The numbers confirm what I already suspected walking in, that this isn't a rounding error, it's a message. "Parker's fingerprints are all over this."

"Looks that way."

"Get my money ready." I close the folder. "And call Parker. Tell him it's time we settle what we agreed on. About his daughter."

Luca's face barely moves, but I've worked with him long enough to catch the flicker under it. "You're actually going through with it."

"He's owed me for six months. It's only fair I take something he treasures."

"He has two daughters." Luca lays it out carefully. "One from his late wife. One from the wife he has now."

"The one he loves most." I lean back in my chair. "That one. It'll hurt more that way."

Luca holds my gaze a second longer than the moment strictly needs, the closest thing to a question he'll ever let himself ask me out loud. Then he nods, once, and lets it go.

"I'll pull her details."

He leaves, and I sit there longer than the work in front of me requires, thinking about a girl two floors up who has no idea what kind of house she's just agreed to spend the next three days in, or what kind of man just told her welcome to the job.

  • Ruthless Daddy; His Bratty Little Girl    His Other Half

Daphne I check the time on my way out of his room and swear under my breath. Almost eleven. I'm already late for my morning shift at the diner, and Mr. Hank won't take it lightly this time. I twist my hair into a rough bun as I walk, still half convinced none of last night was real. The staircase opens onto the rest of the house and I stop walking. It looks massive. Marble floors, a chandelier the size of my old bedroom, a wall of windows looking out over grounds that go on longer than my entire street. There's a painting on the landing that looks like it belongs in a museum, not a hallway. One could tell how much wealth the owner has acquired to own a house like this. I start down the stairs, eyes still taking in the beauty of the place, not believing I spent the night here, in the bedroom of the man who owns it. I'm halfway to the bottom when the front door bangs open hard enough to echo through the whole place. "Julian. Julian Macini, come down here." Julian Ma

  • Ruthless Daddy; His Bratty Little Girl    Perfect stranger

DaphneMy eyes feel like they've been glued shut. I force them open anyway, and the ceiling above me is wrong, too high, painted a gray I don't recognize.I lie still for a second, trying to piece last night back together. The club. The dizziness. Silas's hands on me, his voice saying things I don't want to remember yet. A stranger's voice cutting through the noise. After that, nothing. Just fragments, heat, a jacket that smelled like cedar. This isn't my room.I sit up too fast, and the world tilts before it settles. I look down at myself. I'm wearing a shirt, plain white, way too big, hanging off one shoulder and stopping somewhere mid thigh. Not mine.I lift the duvet, my heart in my throat, praying I won't find any trace of blood, anything that would hint I lost my virginity. There's nothing. Except I'm wearing nothing but the shirt. Nothing else at all. Whoever brought me here stripped me completely naked. The bathroom door opens, and steam rolls out ahead of him. His hair

JulianI carry Daphne into the house. She curls into me like her body already knows the shape of mine, arms around my neck, face pressed into my throat. Her breath is uneven, too warm. I never once stop to ask what I'm doing bringing her into my home. A house I haven't let a woman into since Katrina left. Maybe a part of me just wants to make sure she's safe. I couldn't leave a girl high on some substance, vulnerable to whatever's out there, alone at almost midnight. "Boss." Luca, from the bottom of the stairs. "You have a call. Katrina Voss." "Not now, Luca. Handle her." I don't stop walking. I feel his eyes move between me and the girl half naked and shaking in my arms. He doesn't ask. "She says it's urgent. I think you should take it." "Tell her I'm in a meeting. I'll talk to her in the morning." I take the stairs two at a time and shoulder open the door at the end of the hall before I've fully decided to. My room. Not the guest room. Mine. I don't ask myself why. I already

  • Ruthless Daddy; His Bratty Little Girl    The Savior

DaphneI should have known something was wrong the second the room started spinning without me.One minute I'm laughing at something my boyfriend Silas says, my second vodka soda sweating in my hand, and the next the whole club tips sideways like the floor forgot how to hold itself flat."Are you okay, Daph?" he asks, slinging his arm around my shoulder."I don't think so..." The words come out slurred. "Something is wrong.""Why don't you have one more shot. It's your birthday. I know you're a lightweight but I'm here. And if you get high, I'll take care of you.""No." My tongue feels three sizes too big. "Something's wrong with me."Today is my nineteenth birthday, and Silas, my boyfriend of two years, brought me out to celebrate with his friends. He told me it was just something small to lighten my mood, because I'd had another fight with my dad that made me leave the house that afternoon."Fine. I think you've had just enough anyway." He raises a glass. "To my girl." And the table
