I held on to the little child tightly - feeling like a missing part of me had been put back in place.

"Is this where you live?" - I cupped his adorable face, his crystal clear green orbs stared at me with a bit of a smile.

"Hmm!" - He nodded his head slowly.

I smiled, exuding a sense of maternal instincts i had once lost. He grabbed my coat tightly, unwilling to let go as he rubbed his face against mine.

We spent the whole time talking and giggling, catching up on the time we spent apart.

"Dinner is -"

Richard walked out of the kitchen, dressed in an apron with his hair tied up - a look of astonishment adorned his pretty face.

"Dean!" - He gazed alternated between me and the child who was happily lost in his playful tantrums.

I blinked - The child's name was Dean?!. I clasped my face with my hands, suddenly realizing that i had never bothered asking for the child's name.

Dean halted abruptly at the sterness of Richard's voice. "Dad!!."

He ran, burying himself in my

He let out a deep throaty laugh, walking into the laundry room before dumping my clothes into the laundry machine as i watched it spin around in circles. "Now why would i do that?" - he asked, bending his shoulders down - such that our eyes were on the same level. "You're helping an absolute stranger with no apparent reason. Isn't that the height of being dumb?" - I retorted, my pale face reflecting in his eyes. He lowered his gaze to the floor with a sigh before standing erect, adjusting his posture. "I've already told you - I've been trailing you for two years, so I know quite a thing or two about you. I'm not obligated to ask you questions.......... neither are you obligated to answer mine." He led me out to the balcony, staring at the starless night. "Unless it's of your own free will to tell me,i wouldn't force you to tell. And no matter the decision you make - I'll always be right behind you. That's why i asked that you use me as a last resort." His hands fumbled in his p

"Sure thing - so we just have to wait for the issue to resolve itself." "Yes, we wait. Besides, this is an involuntarily promotion. So it works in our favor." - I ended the call after a few minutes of briefing Bennett on what to do." Thanks!!" - I returned Richard's phone, expressing my gratitude politely."You're welcome!!" - He flashed a bright smile, his eyes squinting as his dimples deepened. "So where are you going to stay for the night. It doesn't look like those guys are about to leave anytime soon." He drew my attention back to current homeless situation, i stared outside - it was dark outside, with the absence of the moon and stars. Like the entire world was just an orb hidden under a large dark cloak with the street lamps being the only source of light."Guess i haven't figured that out yet." - I sighed briefly, as i tugged at my blood stained coat. Not until now had i realized how actually comfortable it was to have a home to return to - although it wasn't tastefully fu

He parked right outside my house. My gaze turned gloomy - a herd of reporters had already camped around my house, with tents thereby obstructing any means of accessing the home through the front door. "What's going on?" - Richard sat still, breaking the thin veil of silence that had been cloaking us both during the one hour drive back home. "I don't know." - I answered numbly. I would have loved to step out and figure out a thing or two - but my present condition didn't quite favor that disposition. "Do you have your phone with you, perhaps?" He stared at me, his green eyes boring into mine as he searched his pockets before retrieving his phone from it's depths. "Here, you can have it." I took the phone, staring as the dimly lit screen came alive. "It's locked. Please input your password." "It's your birthday." - He exhaled deeply. "What?" - I couldn't deny the fact that i was confused and hadn't heard him clearly the previous time. "The password is the day of your birth. Yo

I placed my hands on his cold body, feeling bewildered at the sudden turn of events - Although it was anticipated. A dark figure moved and I caught on to this unfamiliar person's shadow. "Wait!!" - I called out. Torn between chasing the murderer or staying with the already dead victim. I analysed the situation - even if i chased after that figure, it wasn't entirely guaranteed that I'll be able to catch up to the person. Seeing that whosoever that was already had a five minute advantage and had already covered a large distance during that time frame.I exhaled, calming my tensed muscles while I tried figuring out my next course of action. I moved my hands around the deceased body, searching for his phone so that i could be able to alert the police. Cold sweat poured down from my skin, blurring my vision as my hands trembled with the blood stained phone. I wiped his fingers with the hem of my coat and then used his fingerprints to unlock the smart mobile. .........................

  • SELENE WOODS    CHAPTER 33

I sat on a chair in a coffee shop, staring at the scenery outside. It was unusually gloomy, with the clouds covering up the bright rays of the sun. At least, no one was roasting to death - often times the temperature rose too high, it was practically unbearable. "Here are the keys to the car, it's parked right outside." - Rachel slipped a small bunch of keys on the desk as she took a big sip from her mocha latte. "Hmm-". A quiet sigh escaped my lips in response as i slipped the car keys into the pocket of my white coat. "So what do you intend to do now?" - She clasped her manicured fingers together, her eyes lingered on my face. "Plan B." She froze, her expression turning serious. "They caught on, didn't they?." "Guess they did." - I shrugged my shoulders, bringing the warm cup of black coffee close to my lips. "Note down the construction site of that truck driver. I need to pay him a much awaited visit." - I slipped a small folded white napkin over to her. "Okay." - She brou
