I stood before the departing section of the airport, my luggages in hand as i glanced at escalator leading to the boarding section.

The airport was filled with people - some with family, others alone. And then there were some like me who were just hoping to flee this world.

I sighed - a long, heavy sigh. The sunlight peered through the glass, creating a shadow before me.

Three days of careful preparation and now...... i was here. My mind couldn't help but wander to the times I'd sat on floor, in total silence.

My tense shoulders relaxed - like as though a heavy burden had been lifted off my shoulders.

That was right. I was no longer a wife, neither was I a mother.

There were no more strands of relationship binding me to that selfish and ungrateful pair.

The freedom to be able to let all hell loose, had never been more enticing as it was today. As of henceforth, there would be no hesitations.

Now all that would remain would be pain and intense hatred. With the ungodly feeling of achieving revenge even if it consumes my soul and crushes what remains of my body into bits.

I gritted my teeth, resentment blurring my vision. I tried to hold steady as i stumbled forward when I heard my phone trilling in my coat's pocket.

Listening to that familiar ringtone,i knew it was an incoming call. I reached for it, simultaneously pressing the accept button.

"Selene, where the hell are you?!" - Jason's high pitched voice came through instantly. A clear indicator that he was pissed beyond words.

I smirked. Three days with his white moonlight and he suddenly realizes he had a wife today.

How disappointing.

Where was i?!. Wasn't this what he had always wanted.

Or was he trying to drag me back so that he could savour every moment of having me dismembered like he had done the past two times.

Standing still, i didn't actually know how much time had passed. But I did know that there was a thick cloud of silence hanging heavily between us both.

"Why does it matter to you?" - I broke the silence. "Wouldn't it do you more good if I were to disappear forever?".

My face twisted in a grimace as each word passed through the gaps of my teeth while I had my hands balled in a tight fist.

"What the hell are you talking about?!" - I pushed the phone a distance from my ear as i heard him cursing in agitation.

"GET BACK HERE,SELENE!!!" - he yelled. "Irina was recently discharged from the hospital and is alone with the child. How could you leave your obligation to an ailing lady ".

I heard the soft thud of his fist making impact with something. Probably he had punched his desk or something.

I scoffed. Feeling repulsed that I had now been reduced to being a hand servant.

Did he really think that i would come running just because he said so?. Had it been in the past, then yeah.

But we weren't living in the past, were we?.

Obligations....... that burden was never mine to bear in the first place. They were hers.

"Jason, you have wronged me greatly" - i said slowly feeling the cracks in my heart growing wider...... and wider.

"What!" - he exclaimed.

"You shouldn't have wronged me this badly" - i muttered beneath my breath as i sniffed in the cold air. Tears lingered in my eyes - unshed.

"What dumb things are you really spouting?" - I bowed my head listening to his angry voice.

"I give you five minutes.......Five minutes or else I'll never let you back" - he threatened. He seemed confident that I would come running back and crawling on my knees apologizing.

A low laugh escaped my lips. I laughed till i couldn't anymore - till it got really hard to breathe.

"Give me two years. These pains I've had to endure - I'll let you experience it a hundred fold" - my words flew fluently.

"I'll make sure that you crumble without a wall to lean on. For now, enjoy what you've got" - i hung up the call after speaking. Casually tossing the phone into a trash bin close by.

With my final good-byes having being said,i turned to leave. With a promise to burn down this world on my return.

.............................................................................................................................

It was around 6:15pm when our plane touched down in Paris, France.

I stepped out of the airport with my hands in my coat. Pulling behind me my entire luggage which consisted of one trolling bag.

I took a deep breath, taking in the new fresh airs of Paris. With new dreams and new hopes,i walked along the paved road till i found the designated taxi waiting for my arrival.

I flashed a brief smile to the driver who seemed to be in his early fourties,an average height with a slim stature and a well trimmed beard .

"You're Miss Selene Woods?!" - he asked politely in french, his eyes holding a hint of scrutiny.

"Yes, I am. It's a pleasure meeting you" - i replied in fluent french as i watched him pulling my bag to the back of the car.

"Please...." - he opened the car door, stretching his hands while asking me to go in the car.

"Thanks" - I smiled politely.

He got into the driver's side, pulled the car into the busy road as he sped off.

I sat at the back of the car, watching as the sun set filling the skies with it's orange red evening glow.

Paris looked particularly captivating at this time of day - each building looked magnificent with it's unique architectural design.

I didn't know how long we had been driving, but it had been a long while. I felt exhausted but I dared not sleep a wink.

I sat up straight, engaging in different talks with the driver as he enlightened me on quite a number of things.

When we pulled into the driveway of the undercover base - it was dark and the moon was out.

"Miss, we're here" - the driver knocked on my glass before opening the door for me.

"Thank you" - i alighted, taking my luggage from him.

"I find it quite shocking that you would want to meet up with a suspect like me, detective." - I spoke coolly with a faint hint of amusement in my tone. Detective Davis turned away, his eyes almost evasive, the rhythmic sounds of his foot tapping against the floor boards lingered in my ears. " Don't overthink it,this isn't something I'd usually do...." - He paused, rubbing his nose with his fingers while sounding anxious - like he was at his breaking point. I smiled but it never reached my eyes, "Mr Detective seems to have it all wrong, I'm not the type to overthink about anything. But it seems to me like you've met a roadblock on your investigation and are now having a hard time requesting for my assistance." - I waved my hands, calling the attention of passing waitress. Ignoring Davis' slightly widened eyes as he expressed his disbelief." Ma'am, what would you like to order? "- The waitress holding a small tab leaned over with a small smile, her voice timidly polite as she spoke

" Mother, you're back!" - Dean rushed down the stairs, his voice filled with excitement. I smiled, dropping the box of desserts onto the table. Dean threw himself into my arms, his little face filled with smiles. He turned, his gaze landing on the small box on the table. "And you brought pastries!!" - He clapped, his smile growing wider. "Mother, you don't know how much i missed you. Staying at home alone made me bored and i couldn't help but think of you." - Dean babbled nonstop, his predatory eyes still locked on the box. He sat down on the couch, getting ready to chow down."You only missed your mother, then what about me.....Didn't you miss your father too?" - Richard walked in, holding a small package as he spoke with a deep frown.Dean humph'ed, not sparing his dear father a glance. He picked out a small piece of sponge cake, shoving it in his mouth."You unfilial child." - Richard hissed, heading towards the stairs.Dean stuck out his tongue, making a face at his dad. He only

I stared at the funeral home, it's grand columns now a pole to withering weeds. The courtyard looked dusty and very unkempt with pieces of scattered furnitures placed at every nook, silence hung heavy as a veil and it gave off an intense, somber air. The dried, fallen leaves made a crisp, crunching sound as we walked through a paved pathway. The funeral home looked like a church.....a church solely meant for the dead. "Let's go in." - Richard adjusted his tie, his arm hovering above my shoulders as he rasped. He held me, leading me towards the oakwood doors, then we walked through the long, winding, dark corridors. The air was stale and vaguely musty, nothing like the fresh outdoor breeze.....this was far too suffocating. Richard paused by a door, flashing a quick smile, his hands just inches away from the door knob. I exhaled, not needing a shaman to tell me what was behind that door. I gave a small, reassuring nod, certain that i could carry on with this. He said nothing, calml

Irina stopped by a dimly lit aisle with no one else present, we'd been walking for quite the long while and i could guess that we were at the back of the mall. Her eyes sharpened with a dark glint as she dismissed her new assistant that had been following her diligently with just a wave of her manicured hands. After the assistant left, she turned to me, a dark glint flashing through her eyes as she unravelled her true, cruel personality. "You survived?." "Back at that warehouse,i was certain you'd die....so- so how were you able to escape?" - Her well polished aura fell apart, revealing the distraught state she was in. I folded my arms, finding her disbelief pretty amusing. "You really do have diligent personal assistants. I'm wondering....where you get hard-working people like those to work for you?"- I took a few steps forward, trying to change the topic." Don't you dare change the topic, you damned bitch!!. Just tell me....tell me why the hell won't you just die!!" - Irina gnas

There was silence.I exhaled, reclining into my seat as i stared at the detective with blank eyes, finding his subtle threat not a bit humorous. "Don't you think that it's too early to play the suspects game?" - I curled my lips, watching his gaze falter. He laughed wrily, "It was meant to be humor, i guess that Miss hasn't heard of such jokes before." - He nodded his head slowly, his eyes staring at me as if wanting to instill fear into my whole.I remained calm, unperturbed by his little psychological tricks - I had seen things far worse than that."It's just that I'm merely wondering, this isn't the first murder that you've been linked to. And i find it too eery to cross it out as a mere coincidence, i was hoping that you could bear with me." - He added in a deep, professional tone.I sat up, my fingers entangled together. "It's true, it's too strange to cross it out as a mere coincidence." - I spoke calmly,my words edged with double meanings. I shot the detective a look, wearing a

Richard set the bowl aside, his expression solemn and yet grim. His veiny hands reached out for my hospital robe and i flinched instinctively."Be calm, I'll just attach this prosthetic - I won't touch you in any perverted way." - He hummed softly in his deep voice, something flickering in his eyes as he looked at me.I relaxed tentatively, allowing him slip the gown up my thighs where my left leg was obviously missing, the warmth of his hands stroking my skin. He picked up the prosthetic, fixing it in place with a stern gaze. I smiled, he looked like a handyman fixing a leaky pipe - the way he seriously did everything. He raised his head, his long hair falling over his face - he seemed curious about why i laughed out so suddenly, but as usual,he never asked me directly."It's time to eat. Your friend told me you were famished,so i had a bowl of porridge prepared. It's mild.... and easy to digest, not heavy on the tongue." - He sat down on a chair next mine, his hands holding on to the
