I stepped down the flight of stairs, listening to the sound of cheerful laughter.
I paused briefly- Jason was back. But they weren't alone. Breathing deeply, i moved towards them. My footsteps silent against the marbled tiles. "You're back" - I flashed a soft smile, my eyes scanning the familiar faces in the room before lingering on a female. She had Edward in her embrace, her red hair falling over her face and down her bare shoulders. With raised eyebrows, i drew a lot - She must be Irina. Jason barely ever brought anyone to our home - but he had made an exception today. She had to be someone special then. I bit the tip of my tongue, bitterness welling up in my heart. No, not out of jealousy - but out of the need for revenge. "Selene, this is Irina" - Jason stretched out his hand towards the red haired lady which she held firmly while smiling softly. My eyes zoned in on their affectionate gazes - I had guessed that already. When Jason averted his gaze, she returned to giving me a smug look. Though I wished to tell her that her actions had seriously zero effects on me. "Hmmm~" - quietly sighing in response as i made my way past them. I attempted to sit in one of the vacant sofas when a book came flying, hitting me on the cheek. I stared at the magazine lying on the floor as i felt the pain sinking in. "What do you think you're doing?" - Edward's childish voice sounded very agitated. "Who said you can sit with us, you disgracefully untasteful woman?!". Listening to the little thing vent, i took my sit any ways. Raising my eyes to the child, calm and unbothered. He flinched, gripping Irina's hand as if hoping for some sort of comfort. I never knew my eyes could scare the crap out the nuisance. Tsk tsk tsk, if I had known - I'd have done it sooner. "Selene, he's just a child" - My ears twitched listening to that false sweet tone. Staring at the young lady covering Edward with her body in a protective stance - I had to say, she deserved an award. I stretched my palm open. "Did i say anything?". My eyes holding a sense of nonchalance, i never knew i once had. Her slender manicured hands poked Jason's side asking for some sort of support. "Selene, ENOUGH!!!" - Jason glared at me. Probably for making everyone's morning awkward - but how was i at fault at this?. "I simply asked a question. Why are you acting all fessed up?". I averted my gaze from my hands, locking eyes with his in an instant. Acting all grumpy just because his dear little lover poked him by the side huh!. Irina placed her hands on her forehead, her hands gripping Jason. "Jason, i don't really feel good. It feels like i might have a cold".- her voice was soft like silk or Indian chai. Now i had to say, no wonder she was able to win best actress of the year. If not, this talent would have been wasted, No?!. To be able to feign ill within a matter of minutes - Such a good utilization of talent. She deserved a round of applause. "Selene, have some homemade cold remedy prepared for Irina. She's unwell" - his arm was draped over Irina's trembling shoulders. "Okay". I stood up, heading straight for the kitchen. Cold remedy,my foot. Why don't i concort poison for her instead. Makes my revenge easier, albeit - she would be having a much easier death. I wanted to see her suffer and gruel in pain. I wanted to watch her fall from her high place, to avenge my parents and myself. Poisoning her would be all too easy. I heard footsteps from behind me as I tried getting porcelain bowls from the cupboard. "Selene, right?!" - Irina asked, her voice laced with disdain. I only kept silent. If the lassy knew what was in her best interests, she would stop bothering me. She walked further, pushing me forward as i hit my waist against the sharp edge of the kitchen counter. I hissed, the pain shooting up my spine, bringing tears to my eyes. "Low lives like you should learn to keep your place, not setting eyes on things that aren't yours" - she poked her finger on my forehead, her eyes blazing in fury. I looked directly at the lady, what part of keep off wasn't she getting?. Using my hands against the kitchen counter,i straightened my posture. Turning around,i continued my activities all the while ignoring her presence in the kitchen. "Aren't you listening to what I just said?. Don't you wonder where your husband and son have been for the past three days?. Jason is mine, mine and mine alone" - her voice rose in crescendo. My busy hands paused. "And so?, he's still married to me?". If she was trying to piss me off,she had to consider if she wanted to get annoyed too. I watched her eyes widening in anger as i watched veins bulging from the side of her eyes. Have to say,she was one mentally derailed person. "Not for long. He's going to divorce you and then. He's going to make sure that you disappear from this world forever." " Thanks for informing me. I appreciate your very kind gesture "- I said, being casually dismissive. "Ahhh!!". I flinched, listening to Irina's blood curling scream. Looking at her on the floor, her hands red and blistered before lingering on the hot kettle with it's content spilled all over the floor. Realization dawned on me - I had been framed by this white lotus. Jason barged through the kitchen door with Edward in suit. "Irina, what happened?!". He turned his cold dark eyes to me. "What the hell happened?!". "Selene it's okay if you don't like me. But spilling hot water on me -" . Her accusatory words, although uncompleted fueled the tension in the room. Slap!! I felt the hot burning pain in my cheek as i heard Edward giggle excitedly. " You had better pray that nothing happens to Irina. Or else!". He picked-up the smug Irina from the floor, dashing out the doors. " Suits you " Edward said with his tongue sticking out of his mouth, right before running out the door too . I stood there, disheveled with anger simmering in my heart.I arrived at Dean's school, glancing at the familiar huge buildings with a soft feeling of nostalgia. This was Edward's elementary school too - and I'd find it coincidental that Dean would also be a student here. Sighing, i walked into the building. "Mrs Smith, long time no see. Are you here to pick up your ward?" - I watched as Edward's homeroom teacher approached me with a bright smile on her face. I was stunned by the sight in front of me - Dean sat down on a little metal chair, his small head was bowed deeply. Giving off a sad, deplorable look - his school uniform was soiled and muddied. His hands were filled with scratch marks and they were some bruises on his leg.Across, I saw Edward sitting at the other end with an ugly sneer on his face, in partially the same condition - except that he was in a much better state than Dean was."Mrs Hudson, it's indeed been a long while." - I shook her hands briefly. " But i wonder what happened and why these kids are in this state." Dean
I blinked, crossing my legs - one over the other. Acting as though i was clueless."So you really aren't going to spill it?" I shook my head resolutely. She sighed, giving me the ' I'm totally disappointed in you' look."Anyways, I'm glad that you're back." - She shrugged, casually dismissing her earlier curiosity and probity."Not for long!. I'll be leaving -". I paused, glancing at the electronic clock on my desk. "In the next four hours." "For reals, Selene?!. You've got to be kidding me." Rachel expressed her dissatisfaction, collapsing in her seat ; possibly exasperated.I shrugged my shoulders care freely, not perturbed."Then why did you come back if it wasn't because of the project?. Or was it because you missed me?" - She teased with a playful smirk." Because........ I have something important to discuss with Bennett." - I spoke in a flat tone.Rachel gasped, her lips forming a slight 'O' shape. " I'll have someone send her over." - She pouted her lips, feeling silly." Ts
I stepped out of the Civil bureau, dressed in my yesterday's clothes with a marriage certificate in hand. Staring at the bright rays of the sun, i exhaled deeply - Today, i had officially become Richard's wife albeit only on paper. Glancing over my shoulders, i could clearly see him standing at the far off with his certificate - grinning from ear to ear, one would think that he had actually won a lottery ticket. "Remember, this marriage is only on paper. As agreed, I've done my part and now I'm expecting that you will also fulfill your end of the deal." - I said to him, watching as he snapped out of his happy daze. "Ah!." - he walked up to me in a few strides. "Most definitely....... I'll keep my side of the bargain." "I'll be keeping tabs on you - so please don't disappoint me." - Really, I wouldn't want to be disappointed and that too at a time like this. He smiled brightly - heading towards his car, humming a jolly tune as he walked past me. This marriage seemed to bring out
He let out a deep throaty laugh, walking into the laundry room before dumping my clothes into the laundry machine as i watched it spin around in circles. "Now why would i do that?" - he asked, bending his shoulders down - such that our eyes were on the same level. "You're helping an absolute stranger with no apparent reason. Isn't that the height of being dumb?" - I retorted, my pale face reflecting in his eyes. He lowered his gaze to the floor with a sigh before standing erect, adjusting his posture. "I've already told you - I've been trailing you for two years, so I know quite a thing or two about you. I'm not obligated to ask you questions.......... neither are you obligated to answer mine." He led me out to the balcony, staring at the starless night. "Unless it's of your own free will to tell me,i wouldn't force you to tell. And no matter the decision you make - I'll always be right behind you. That's why i asked that you use me as a last resort." His hands fumbled in his p
I held on to the little child tightly - feeling like a missing part of me had been put back in place. "Is this where you live?" - I cupped his adorable face, his crystal clear green orbs stared at me with a bit of a smile. "Hmm!" - He nodded his head slowly. I smiled, exuding a sense of maternal instincts i had once lost. He grabbed my coat tightly, unwilling to let go as he rubbed his face against mine. We spent the whole time talking and giggling, catching up on the time we spent apart. "Dinner is -" Richard walked out of the kitchen, dressed in an apron with his hair tied up - a look of astonishment adorned his pretty face. "Dean!" - He gazed alternated between me and the child who was happily lost in his playful tantrums. I blinked - The child's name was Dean?!. I clasped my face with my hands, suddenly realizing that i had never bothered asking for the child's name. Dean halted abruptly at the sterness of Richard's voice. "Dad!!." He ran, burying himself in my
"Sure thing - so we just have to wait for the issue to resolve itself." "Yes, we wait. Besides, this is an involuntarily promotion. So it works in our favor." - I ended the call after a few minutes of briefing Bennett on what to do." Thanks!!" - I returned Richard's phone, expressing my gratitude politely."You're welcome!!" - He flashed a bright smile, his eyes squinting as his dimples deepened. "So where are you going to stay for the night. It doesn't look like those guys are about to leave anytime soon." He drew my attention back to current homeless situation, i stared outside - it was dark outside, with the absence of the moon and stars. Like the entire world was just an orb hidden under a large dark cloak with the street lamps being the only source of light."Guess i haven't figured that out yet." - I sighed briefly, as i tugged at my blood stained coat. Not until now had i realized how actually comfortable it was to have a home to return to - although it wasn't tastefully fu
