Chapter 23

Hoper still smelled Amos' body odor. But the odor disappeared in the alley. Where did Amos disappear? Why did he suddenly lose him?

"Damn!" cursed Hoper. He was very upset. He knew Sera would not be happy to hear about this. He tried to continue find Amos. He was still exploring the small streets for clues. Amos would not suddenly disappear.

Riel joined him after some time.

"Did you lose him?" asked Riel, wandering around the area his eyes could reach.

Hoper was silent, he was panicked.

"Ms. Dumitrese won't like that," said Riel, walking into the alleyway and trying to find a hidden passage. But when they reached the end of the street, they found nothing.

Hoper exhaled a rough breath. He stared at the row of small houses behind the tall gates along the street. There was no way Amos could have entered one of those houses, right? If Amos was there, he could smell him.

"That slave is so cunning. I let my guard down," Hoper regretted, pressing his forehead. He was tired and scared.
