Samantha’s POV

The room was quiet, the kind of quiet that makes your own thoughts too loud.

The curtains were drawn halfway, letting in a dim, golden outline of late afternoon light. I had been lying on my back for what felt like hours, staring at the ceiling, listening to the soft, even breathing coming from the other side of the room.

Anthony was curled into the corner of his bed like a child who had finally found a safe place to sleep.

The blanket was wrapped so tightly around him I wondered if he felt cold or if he just needed the weight.

It still shocked me a little. When I had walked out of the bathroom earlier, hair dripping, clean clothes on, ready to tell him the bathroom was free, I had not expected to see him like that.

He had not even removed his hoodie. He had not showered. He had not said a word. He had folded into himself and knocked out before I could ask if he was alright.

My first instinct had been to wake him. I had paused near the side of his bed, leaning down,

Isaac’s POV The director opened his mouth, muttered something, but I did not listen. His feeble words were irrelevant. What mattered was accountability. What mattered was demonstrating that no one, not even a director at a high-profile event, could intimidate my athletes or compromise their careers.“You are going to make sure that my athletes have the accommodations they deserve. They will be moved to a proper hotel tonight. Two rooms. Separate. Full privacy. No exceptions.”I let that sink in, watching the chair’s face drain of color one shade at a time. “This is not a favor. This is your obligation. And I will make sure the press knows why this change was necessary.”I took a slow step forward, deliberately closing the distance so he could feel every ounce of my anger. “If you think I will let this slide quietly, you are wrong. You have made your choices, and now you will face the consequences.”The event chair began to stammer, words tripping over themselves as he tried to defen

Isaac’s POV The chair tried again, voice thin. “Sir, surely we can discuss…”“I am done discussing,” I said. “This is no longer a negotiation. You crossed every line you could have possibly crossed, and now you will answer for it.”The director swallowed, eyes glassy. “Do… do you understand the pressure we are under? The deadlines? The…”“Do you understand the gravity of what you have done?” I asked slowly, enunciating each word so he could not pretend to misunderstand. “You tampered with international budgets. You endangered athletes. You misled your sponsors, your staff, and your participants.”His breath quickened, the panic finally fully surfacing.I leaned in closer, my voice dropping to a near whisper.“Tell me. Do you understand the gravity of that?”The room felt like it had stopped breathing. The director nodded quickly, almost frantically, words tripping over themselves as they left his mouth. “Yes… yes, sir. I understand. I do. I… I understand completely.” He stuttered. He

Isaac’s POVI stormed into the office without knocking. Cole hesitated for a second, hand raised, but I pushed past him. Courtesy was a luxury I was not extending to these people today. The moment they saw me, the tension in the room shifted. They had expected some mild complaint or an email from headquarters. They did not expect me.“Good evening,” I said calmly, even though my voice vibrated with anger. “We need to talk.”The event chair rose immediately. He adjusted his tie with frantic fingers, like the fabric had suddenly tightened around his throat. His eyes darted between me and Cole, wide and wary, the eyes of a man who had just realized his mistakes were standing at his door, ready to collect payment. The director, the short man with the oversized scarf that made him look like a child buried in borrowed winter clothes, did not move at all. He sat frozen behind his desk, his hands pressed flat against the wooden surface. The confidence he carried earlier, that smug tilt of

Isaac’s POV I knew dirty hands when I saw them. I had dealt with enough corrupt board members, fake sponsors, and greedy executives in my lifetime to recognize the smell of misconduct even before the evidence arrived. These people thought no one would notice. They thought the chaos would be dismissed as a simple oversight. They thought they were dealing with people who would shake it off and move on. They were wrong. Painfully wrong. And they had just made the mistake of attracting my attention. This time, I was not turning a blind eye. This time, I was going to drag every cockroach into the light and make sure they never crawled back into the shadows again.“Thirty minutes may not be enou…”“It is enough,” I said sharply. My voice did not rise, but it cut like a blade. “This is not a suggestion. Someone is lying. Someone is siphoning. Someone thinks they can line their pockets and treat my athletes like garbage. I want every number exposed. Every misuse dragged into daylight.”“Ye

Isaac’s POV I knew it was only going to take little for Anthony to burst out. He had been holding back his irritation and anger at the airport before departure. Anthony had a short fuse and had little tolerance for rubbish and insults. If he felt he was being cornered, he would reply accordingly. So I wasn’t surprised there.“Oh he is pissed,” Cole added. “The man called me five minutes later. Claims Anthony disrespected him and that he is considering pulling them off the lineup. That is how I found out about all of this.”I pressed a hand to my forehead, torn between rage, exhaustion, and a petty kind of satisfaction. “So he insulted them first, forced a dangerous performance, provided no equipment, then gets offended when the athlete he endangers talks back. Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. This entire event sounds like a clown festival.”Cole snorted. “You have no idea.”My jaw tightened as I resumed walking through the terminal. The director picking a fight with Anthony was reck
