Chapter 7: "this way, miss"
Ava stared at the dead screen for a while. This man is really unbelievable. He did not even wait for her response before he ended the call. That's not the important thing right now, though. She needed to get herself out of the trouble she was in. She quickly sent her address to the number. The man might change his mind if she took too long before sending the account number to him. Some minutes later. Seven cars stopped in front of Ava. Several bodyguards got out of the car. A look of surprise crossed Ava's eyes. Who are these people? Their faces are so frightening. Did they come for her life? Did Henry send them to take her life? Or is it her family? No. There is no way it will be any of them. They are not rich enough to be able to hire all these men. Or is it Mr Andrew? No, he is not the one. Mr Andrew would rather send some hooligans to get her, not these rich bodyguards. Or is it... "Miss, please get in the car." One of the men in the black suit said. Interrupting her thoughts. He opened the car door for her to enter. Ava seemed to be in a daze for a moment and shock was written all over her face. "Who are you people? Who sent you?" She asked. Hugging her back tightly as if her life depends on it. Her eyes scanned the men from head to toe. Everything about the men was screaming luxury. Though She didn't know much about design, she's sure their suits are very expensive. There is no way the Smith family would be able to hire them. The bodyguards exchanged glances before one of them finally replied "We are not in the position to answer your question. Can you please get in the car first?" "Okay," Ava replied and walked over to them. She entered the car and the bodyguard closed the car door. He got in the passenger seat and the driver drove off. Ava's curiosity was killing her. She was afraid she would die if she did not ask the question on her mind "Is your boss Mr...." She suddenly remembered she did not know his name. She ran her hand through her hair in frustration. "Is your boss the person I called just now?" The bodyguard turned around and flashed Ava a small smile. "Even if I mention his name. I doubt you will know who he was, so please. Wait till we get there first. He only sent us the address and told us to come and pick you up." he replied. Trying his best not to at the girl. The girl has been asking too many questions, and it's kind of annoying. He was surprised to see a young girl who seemed to be in her early twenties. Ava could sense the anger in the bodyguard's voice and stopped asking any more questions. So the man is their boss. Just how rich is the man? How can a man be that rich? She wondered what he looked like. She can't even picture what he will look like in her head. Maybe he is some kind of chubby old man. Yeah. That is what he will be. After what seems to be an eternity. The car finally stopped in front of a very big mansion. Ava widened her eyes in shock as she stared at the castle-like house in front of her. She glued her head to the car glass and widened her eyes in shock. There is still a fountain in this house. She is probably in heaven? Is she dead? Is this paradise? She yelled in her head. Staring at the house alone makes her forget all her worries. "We are now here, Miss." One of the bodyguards said and opened the car door for her. She jumped out of the car so she could get a proper view of the mansion. Beautiful flowers were planted everywhere. The place is just so beautiful. Even beautiful is an understatement. If she knows any other word that she can use for this house. It will be her pleasure to use it. She keeps on looking around. Her eyes twinkled in excitement. She looks like a little kid who just visited the amusement park for the first time. She was unable to hide the excitement in her eyes. "This way, Miss." One of the bodyguards said. Motioning for her to enter the house. She knows she shouldn't get too excited. She's here for another reason, but she was looking around instead. She must be out of her mind. She must not show that she's excited to be in a house like this. The maid opened the wide door and she and the bodyguard entered. She was surprised to see some maids forming a line. They were all neat, and they looked good in their white and black uniforms. For some unknown reasons. She wished she was also a maid here. She loves their uniform so much. Her eyes keep scanning the place. She can't just get enough of it. She wished she could have a tour around the house, but this would be the first and the last time she would be visiting there. She only went there to beg for money. "I will take my leave now. You can sit there. I will inform the boss that you are here. The man said and left in a hurry. Ava kept on looking around in amusement. A maid suddenly walked over to her and handed her a cup of fruit juice. "Here, have it." "Thank you so much." Ava took the fruit juice from the maid and thanked her. She was drinking her fruit juice happily until she heard some footsteps behind her. She turned around instantly and was shocked to the bone to see the man before her. He is so stunning. He is breathtaking. Ava had never seen a man that was handsome like that.Chapter 110: What Have You Done?Damien stirred from his sleep. He hated the nightmares that were befalling him that night. Images of Ava reaching out and begging him for help danced through his mind. The images filling his head were so unsettling that he rose with a start and glanced at the other side of the bed. It was empty and it caused his heart to jump in panic. “Ava?” He called out into the dim room, hoping she was in the bathroom. There was no response and this officially got him worried. “Ava, where are you?” He called out as he stood up from his bed and walked around the room, glancing around for any sign of his room. He was about to walk into the bathroom when he noticed that the bedroom door wasn’t properly locked. Taking a deep breath, he walked out of the room and immediately heard the sound of struggling and gulping. Instinctively, he headed to the balcony where the hot tub was located and the sight that greeted him caused bile to form in his mouth and his stomach to
Chapter 109: I Will Take Care Of Everything “Thank you so much for defending me against Regina. I wasn’t in the mood for a fight and was thinking of the best way possible to get away from her.” She thanked him as their vehicle sped along the highway. “Hey, it is nothing. You are my wife, and I ought to protect you at all costs. It was too bad that she tried to hurt you. If you want, I can get her arrested. It would be nice to teach her some lesson so she doesn’t try this ever again.” He said. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach at his words. She would never have believed that a day would come when he would defend her so greatly, like today. “So, what made you leave Dr. Xavier’s office? Did she call you out or something?” He asked as he maneuvered the car through a bend. “No. I intended to gift the good doctor something. If it wasn't for him, you and would most likely not be together anymore. I am so grateful to him and just thought I should get him something. Unfortunately, I le
Chapter 108: What’s Going On Here?Ava glanced around the whole space, thinking of how best to avoid Regina and the trouble she was promising. If she wasn’t in a haste to get back to Damien and Dr. Xavier, she would have taken the time to be trashy to the woman in front of her. “You look so scared like you want to run away. Well, you know what? It is best you run away because what I intend to do to you is terrible.” Regina hissed and menacingly towered over Ava. “Regina, I wish we could roll on the floor and drag our hair at each other, but I do not have the time for that. I have to go. I will see you some other time.” She answered and tried to make a beeline for the elevator, but Regina’s gait and agility were faster than her reflexes. Regina threw her to the floor in one fast move. Ava felt her head spin as pain exploded in her head. She was momentarily dizzy, and the pain traveled down her body, causing her to ache. Gosh, she had been trying to avoid trouble, and yet it came to
Chapter 107: Just My ManAva watched what used to be her family walk out of the office. They were all smiles even after agreeing to Damien's condition in a heartbeat. “What is wrong? You look like you have seen a ghost.” He asked her as he grabbed her into his arms. She settled into his warm body and laid her head on his chest. His heartbeat was steady and strong, promising her that everything was going to be okay. She desperately wanted to believe that, but not with the amount of money he had just thrown out to her family. When he had said that he had a condition for her family before giving them the money, she had thought it was something serious, only for him to demand that the Smiths make a minimum of 50 percent return on the amount he was going to give them. Her family had readily taken it and signed a contract, confident that they were going to get their business up and running in optimal capacity with the sum he had given them. "I may have not seen a ghost, but I just watc
Chapter 106: ShamelessDamien glanced at the Smith family and took in a few breaths to center himself. He didn't want to do anything crazy, especially not with Ava around. He wanted to protect her, including from himself. “Despite all the good you have done for my wife, which we are both grateful for, I don’t think I can help. You see, I just recovered from a coma and my business is yet to pick up. Hopefully, some other time, I would be able to help.” He said with a forced smile. Ava let out a breath certain that this should be enough to dissuade her family from asking him for money, but she was wrong. They all stared at each other and chuckled lightly. “Mr. Silver, you seem to forget who you are. You are not just the richest billionaire in New York, you are the richest in the world. No matter how bad your business goes, you would definitely have a heavy sum to help us with.” Mr. Smith said. Ava could not believe the shamelessness of her adoptive father. He was still asking for mo
Chapter 105: Your Word Is My LawAva can’t say how it happened, but before the door swung open, she and Damien were fully dressed with her leaning against the table with a pen in her hand. “There he is. I told you he would be expecting us.” Lily announced to the security guards who were trying to prevent her and her family from coming into the office. Ava’s countenance immediately changed on seeing her adoptive family here. Wasn’t it clear that they no longer had anything in common and she owed them nothing? Why was she also saying that Damien was expecting them? "Good day, sir. They came in and insisted that they wanted to see you. The receptionist informed them that they needed to get an appointment first before they could get an audience with you, but they were so adamant that you were expecting them. We tried to stop them, but…" One of the guards explained with a shrug. Damien raised his hand in the air, stopping the guard and all the noise that was filtering into his office.
