He always went straight to the point, one of the things I respected him for. A quality that didn't stop him from being cunning and intimidating.
"What are you going to do to me?
Kill me?" I asked making sure my face wasn't betraying any emotion. To him, emotions are signs of weakness and it riles him to see any of his"tools" show signs of weakness. "Now what do you mean by that?I'm sure you know you're one of the most valuable assets we have here and your little distress can't change that. I'm sure with time, you'll be better."He spread his hands keeping a small smile on his face like we were discussing the weather and not my mental breakdown. I wasn't surprised since he treated everyone like the asset he talks about.
"Just tell me your decision and stop beating about the bush." I slammed my hands on the desk just to annoy him, he hated when anyone showed any hint of violence towards him but to my surprise, he merely smiled and picked up a file on his table, and extended it to me.What the hell? Why was he going soft all of a sudden? I thought he would have ordered to have me beaten up. I took the file from him and opened it going through the contents, I looked up at him after some minutes, fear written all over my face and he winked.
The bastard had given me the worst punishment ever and I realized that was the reason he didn't punish me.
He'd given me a new mission and that mission was to babysit a man till further notice. The job wasn't the problem, it was who the man was.He was my punishment.---------------- JakeThe alarm clock signaled 5:30 in the morning, I rose from the bed and went about my daily routine. A gym session for an hour in the state of the art gym in my mansion which I use for an hour and afterward I take my bath and go to work. This has been my routine now for twenty years.
I walked into my office's main headquarter in Manhattan, I had two other headquarters - although not as the Manhattan headquarters in Paris and Italy - that I added to the company amongst other buildings after my parents passed away.
My father had started the company with the New York headquarter and that was one of the reasons why I preferred working from there.
I had pushed myself to work harder to gain more power not because I craved it but because I had to find her.
It was my parent's last wish and I have pulled as many strings as my influence would allow in finding her. A move that earned me both foes and friends. Not that I cared anyway because the only mission I have had for the past twenty years was to find her by all means.
Immediately I walked into my office and sat, Celina, walked in. She had worked for my father as his secretary before he passed and now works for me. I trust her with my life and treat her like a mother and that says a lot. It's very hard to gain my trust.I had once tried to promote her to a higher position but she refused and smacked me on my head like a little child which my best friend, Mike - someone else I trusted - had found entertaining.
" Good morning Celina. How was your night? Miss me much?" She rolled her eyes at that and dropped a file on my desk smiling a little. " One day you're going to realize that you get nowhere with flatter Jake. And stop trying to act cheerful around me. Damn it! If Rick hadn't been stupid enough to use his ass to save yours, God knows you would be hospitalized the same way he is now."I thought I could get away with her scolding me but I guessed wrong and I knew she was worried more than she was letting on.
My bodyguard had almost lost his life amongst other bodyguards who were with me while trying to protect me when we were on our way back from one of the locations where I thought I could find a clue to where she was.
At least the mission hadn't been fruitless, I now know that I'd found something tangible for those people to have come after me that way. They could try all they want but he wouldn't stop till he found her or else he would die trying.
"I'm sorry. I would take proper care next time which was why I told you to find me a skilled bodyguard since mine's not available at the moment."
She sighed and shook her head slightly."You are never one to listen anyways and God knows I try. I brought the file for the new candidate. Since you rejected the last three, maybe you'll finally make a decision this time."
She said and gestured for me to look through the file.I didn't even bother to tell her to sit since she would just ask me how many other employees I tell that and she's angry with me at the moment.
I picked up the file and laughed after looking through it and quickly stopped when I caught the glare she threw my way.
"I've gotta ask, was it because I rejected the three last candidates who happened to be men that made you find a woman instead?"
"That being one of the reasons, the other which is because she's more skilled and has more potential than the rest as stated in the file which you would have known if you looked at anything else other than her picture."
"Fine. Let's agree that she's everything stated here, how can you be sure she can be trusted?" I asked after going through the file thoroughly this time. She sighed at my question. "I don't know what's wrong with you today but I will just remind you that this is the reason we conduct interviews, Jake." I sighed this time. Maybe I was out of my element that morning."Fine. Do whatever you want and get back to me on it. Please."
" Your wish is my command sir." She rolled her eyes and sauntered out of the office. God, I loved that woman. I smiled for the first time that day and got to work.
AshleyI had arrived in Manhattan a week before to get to know the place l was going to start living in. I had learned everything I needed to know about Owens and the person who ran it and was sure I wouldn't be in dark about anything.Today was my interview as Jake Owens's personal bodyguard, more like a babysitter. I hoped what I had provided in my CV was more than enough. I still couldn't believe I was going to be working on this mission.I had known that the master was cruel but this was out of it, I didn't even know the man existed until a week ago. I still remembered how shocked I was when I found out what my mission would be. "You can't be serious about this mission master. You know this is a hard limit for me!"I had slammed my hand on his desk in an outburst which he seemed to find amusing. He knew this was going to get a
JakeI ran a hand over my face to check if something was stuck there but came up with nothing. Then I realized that she just came through the path that leads to only Celina's office. Well then maybe I'd get some answers from her. I was on my way to her office before that woman ran into me." Mike says he needed the file concerning the accident and I thought I would just tell you myself instead of using the intercom."I said as I went into Celina's office and took a sit. She didn't bother to look up from whatever she was doing. I guess someone was used to me barging into their office." I will get to that Jake. You didn't need to trouble yourself by coming here." She said barely sparing me a glance making me sigh."I'm sorry about not being more careful but you know I have to give this my all Celine," I said running my hands through my hair making them messy. She finally looked up and just stared at me before sh
JakeI turned my head towards the woman standing in front of me. Did she just snap at me? I looked towards Mike who was looking amused at the situation. Of course, a bodyguard-to-be snaps at me and he finds it entertaining. Typical Mike. " What did you say, Miss Davis?" I turned towards the woman with a frown on my face. She shut her eyes for a second and took a deep breath almost as if she was calming herself. Interesting. " I meant that you should probably attend to me or tell me to come back later. I don't like people ignoring me, Mr. Owens." She replied calmly this time without breaking her gaze from mine. When I continued staring at her without replying Mike joined in on the conversation. "We're sorry for ignoring but I assure you, it wasn't intentional. You can call me Mike, by the way, you'll be seeing more of me if you stick around." He raised his hand for a h
Jake "You what?"She exclaimed furiously. She glared at me before turning to look at Mike who had just come through the door. She then turned back to glare at me without saying anything to Mike. "Do you care to elaborate on what you just said?" She asked calmly, too calmly for my peace of mind. It was like she would attack at any moment if I didn't answer her fast. It was both scary and amusing. " I said I changed my plans for today. We have something else to do and I don't see why you had to ask me that, it wasn't like I owed you an explanation you just had to follow orders given to you because that's what I paid you for." I shrugged uncaringly. One, because my previous security guards didn't have a problem with me changing my plans as I pleased so I didn't see what her problem was. Two, because I secretly liked seeing her riled up not
Jake Elena was listening to what Mike was saying to her attentively. We had finally agreed to be on a neutral level where we weren't always biting each other's head off and I had to admit one of the perks was that I get to hear her call my name. It sounded different when she did in a good way and I liked it but I wasn't telling her that anytime soon. She would probably bite my head off and I didn't want her to start closing up on me again when I just started seeing her good side. "Um, Jake? Care to fill us in on what's making you smile?" Not a chance! I thought and gave them a bored expression. " I own a multi-million dollar company and yet I'm forbidden to smile, just great." Elena laughed softly which made me smile again. Did I mention that she had a beautiful laugh? It was a shame everything we were ever going to have was going to be strictly professional. The thought of that killed my mood a
Ashley Today wasn't going as I planned. I had woken up with a nightmare that had left me screaming. The nightmares had reduced and were less terrifying since I had gotten here and I didn't know why it came this way this morning which wasn't a good omen especially now that I was about to commence with my plan.Wasn't that just nice?Maybe it came to cheer me on I couldn't say but I would take it like that because I won't let anything dampen my mood today. I looked at the outfit I selected just for today and smiled. I was wearing a pair of black pants trousers that enhanced my hips with a blazer and a red vest to compliment my eyes. I agree it was different from my usual shirt and pant outfit and that was the reason I chose it. Jake wouldn't know what hit him when he sees me. I went straight to his office since he had left a message
Ashley Message sent. My phone notified me and I slipped it into my pocket just as Jake and Mike entered the van. We were taking extra security hence the van plus we don't want to draw attention to ourselves if we can help it. " We're ready to move with your permission sir." I said to Jake making him close his eyes in grief. He totally deserved it, I dolled up for him and he calls me a blabbermouth? No way in hell was I not going to take offense to him calling me that even if he didn't outright say it. I wasn't really pissed about the fact that he lied to me about the number of items he slipped into the bleached guy's pocket or that he doesn't trust me but the fact that he insulted my character by calling me a blabbermouth was vexing. I wouldn't be in the position I was now by being loose-lipped, then he would have found out that I had gone back to do a
Ashley My heart had stopped beating for a moment when I saw one of the assailants point his gun towards Jake and I didn't think twice before jumping in front of him to shield him. At first, I didn't feel anything other than relief when I heard his voice which confirmed he was okay until later when we were on our way back did I start to feel a growing stab of pain at my side, I guess the adrenaline from the near-death mission had worn off.I looked down to see a spreading wet patch ad I almost passed out from the pain. I gave out a low groan not wanting to attract attention to myself, I was going to make sure everyone got back safe, and to ensure that, I need everyone to be alert including me in case of any surprises which means I couldn't make anyone panic or anymore stressed.I placed my hand on the wound carefully and applied pressure to slow down the bleeding, you would have thought that after getti
