Emma cleared her throat and continued her story.

"Seeing what had happened and that someone had found out, I felt that we were no longer safe there, if the police found us out they could take me to jail, and then my Adonis would be left all alone on his own with mo body to take care of him. I did not want that for my grandson, so I took him with me and we fled the town. Once again I had to leave, but this time around with my grandson and not my daughter. We were not able to take anything wutg us, the only thing I was able to take out of that house was a picture of my Lauren, the same picture you have seen hanging there. Because the place had been a ghetto, there was no further investigation on the deaths, the police ruled it out as a clash between rival gangs.

Mary still wanted to know why Adonis had tried to harm his grandmother.

She asked the question aloud, directing it to Adonis. But Adonis stayed quiet, still staring at her. Emma answered the question instead.
