"You are nothing but a worthless piece of trash."
"Rags are meant to live on the street, not in an expensive house."
Those weren't words, but memories—memories that have etched deep into the heart and soul, haunting and painful.
A little boy descended the stairs, looking so lost as those words echoed in his head.
"Ahh!!!"
A scream—loud and sharp—hit his ears, pulling him back to the present. His fingers curled tightly around the cold rail.
The scream grew louder, stabbing into his ear like a needle.
A woman was in labor, the woman he hated so much.
His life wasn't anywhere close to a perfect life... owned by them and stripped of its worth.
The door to the ward opened, and a man stepped out.
"Would you come inside this ward, or do you want me to drag you in, orphan child?" he said with disdain in his voice.
He went inside the ward.
The boy glared at the closed door as if he were seeing the couple directly. His heart bled at the mention of the word 'orphan child'. If fate was cruel, then his would be the cruelest.
He blinked as if it would erase the memories as he got to the door. The knob, which was supposed to be cold, burned in his palm as if sharing his hatred.
The woman's screams got louder, filling the hospital walls. His ears twitched, cringing at her shouts.
He creaked open the door and, coincidentally, the baby came out, breathed her first breath and cried.
The nurse carried the baby, while the cry pierced the air. His eyes found hers, and he stared at her child's bloodied, innocent and wrinkled eyes.
The father walked near the child, the father beaming with a smile. "Ixora," he whispered.
He felt the joy of being called a father after so many years. His wife lay unconscious, clueless about the life she had brought to earth.
The boy took backward steps, the name 'Ixora' resounding in his head... over and over again.
A name he had just made a vow never to forget, as long as he lives.
He turned and started leaving the hospital.
"Worthless child, come back here, where do you think you are going?" The man called after him, but he didn't stop.
He walked on, without looking back, without stopping, had no direction in mind, but he knew it was time for him to leave.
The couple waited for him, but he never returned. Seconds turned into minutes, minutes to hours, hours to days, days to weeks, weeks to months, months to years and...
20 YEARS LATER
"Do you miss Ixora Castellan, take Mr. Drexton Blackthorn to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The wedding priest asked.
Ixora nodded, her face beaming with a smile beneath the veil.
Getting married to the crush of your life has been every girl's dream, and, for Ixora, it was no less different.
The man standing in front of her was everything she needed in a man. Perfection.
"You may now kiss your bride," the priest announced, interrupting her thoughts.
Drexton slowly lifted her veil, and both started leaning in.
Just before their lips could meet...
The loud sound of her alarm rang, waking her up from her sleep.
She opened her eyes and turned off the alarm.
She exhaled softly.
Like always, she had never gotten to kiss her groom.
Something always interrupts her dream right before he can kiss her.
Ixora Castellan; rich hazel eyes, bold and thick eyebrows, well-shaped nose, crimson lips, long, dark, thick hair and spotless skin. She is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs Castellan, one of the wealthiest families in the whole of New York.
She glanced at the clock: "7:45 am!"
"How could I wake up so late?" she climbed out the bed, into the bathroom.
In less than 10 minutes, she ran out dressed in a casual short jean skirt and tank top.
She had sexy curves.
She used her finger to brush her hair while running down the stairs.
She needed no make-up - she was a natural beauty.
"Morning, mom, and dad. Oh, Hazel, thank goodness you are already here," she said in a hurry.
Hazel is her best friend, more like her sister.
"Ixora, I was—"
"There is no time, we have to leave," Ixora dragged her, and they both ran out of the room.
"Are you sure that is my daughter? Who on earth stalks over a guy they are crushing on?" Mr. Castellan said.
"You should be able to answer that as well," Mrs Castellan rolled her eyes, fixing her well-manicured nails.
--
Ixora pulled Hazel by the hand. "We have to hurry, else I'd not get to see him."
"Xora, slow down, please," Hazel pleaded, panting in between.
Both girls' hair flowed with the wind, their slippers slapping the tiled streets of New York.
"You should have woken me up? Why did you allow me to oversleep?" Ixora asked.
"And have you killed me? Sorry, but no."
She knew Ixora very well. The girl who had a weird way of crushing on somebody.
They got to the magnificent skyscraper that stood tall, and coincidentally, a Maybach car was just pulling up at the company.
Ixora pulled her further. "To our spot." Both hid in their usual spot—behind the gate where no one would see them, not even the security guards.
The door opened, and he stepped out, just like a king in his gray suit, with the jacket hanging in his arms.
Reporters immediately swooned around him. Each was trying to catch a glimpse of his face, but none dared to touch him.
He strode to the door before facing the media.
His visage alone was something to die for; sharp nose, curved jawline, high cheekbones and a smile that would make anyone go crazy.
Drexton Blackthorn.
Owner of Blackthorn Automobiles, one of the biggest automobile companies in the world, also deals in high-tech stuff. He's the youngest and richest billionaire in the world, but what made him so unique was the smile that was always on his face... or at least that's what people thought.
"Isn't he so handsome?" Ixora smiled dreamily, taking secret pictures of him as always.
Drexton's pictures filled her phone galleries.
Hazel looked at Ixora but only shook her head.
She had gotten used to Ixora's behavior.
*Mr. Blackthorn, please tell us the reason behind your success.
*You are an inspiration to many people.
Instead of replying, he looked in the direction Ixora and Hazel were hiding. He flashed them a smile before walking inside.
"Did you see that? He smiled at me?" Ixora gushed.
Hazel sighed tiredly. "He always does that, Ixora."
Ixora was far gone, staring at him as he walked in.
Hazel folded her arms above her chest. "Since he's gone, can we leave now?"
Ixora looked at her. "Don't give me that look. You can't blame my heart for choosing him."
Hazel shook her head and started walking away.
"Hazel, wait up," Ixora ran after her.

**[DREXTON 'S OFFICE]**
Drexton hung the shirt on the chair before sitting on the chair.
For someone like him, who smiled some minutes ago, the smile on his face was gone.
His assistant stood waiting for him.
"Go on."
"Rothrock company wants 100 cars delivered to them," Kian read.
Drexton raised his brow. "That is all, sir, Tasha would do the rest," Kian said, his voice professional.
Drexton nodded.
Kian bowed and left.
Some minutes later, Tasha walked in, dressed in a black and white shirt and skirt.
The skirt was short, and the first three buttons of the shirt had been unbuttoned.
She had always been trying to get his attention, but Drexton had always overlooked it.
Today, she was determined.
Drexton had his eyes fixed on her as she read his schedule.
"Send in my coffee," he told her when she was done.
She left the office.
In a few minutes, she returned with the cup of hot coffee and placed it on the table.
Drexton was someone who preferred drinking coffee before starting his daily activities.
He picked up the cup and brought it closer to his lips. Just before he could take a sip, his nose caught a smell coming from the coffee.
Tasha stood there with so much anticipation, waiting for him to drink the coffee.
He looked at her.
"What did you add to this coffee?" he asked in a low voice.
"Sir... I... nothing," she stuttered.
How did he find out?
"I don't repeat myself," he said, his voice dangerously low, different from the man who was smiling at the media.
Tasha began trembling, cold sweat gleaming on her forehead.
"No... Nothing, sir..."
She fell on her butt when he opened the drawer and took out a gun, pointing it at her.
"Sir, it is an aphrodisiac. Please don't kill me," she cried, shifting back with her butt.
"You are fired," he said coolly, and pushed a red button on his table.
The door slid open, and Kian walked in.
Seeing the gun in Drexton's hand and Tasha on the floor, he instantly understood the situation.
"Take her away, and start looking for a replacement," Drexton ordered.
As Kian took her away, his eyes fell on something that made his stomach knot.
The silence between them turned heavy. Neither said a word, just glared and dark gazes. Ixora had no idea what he was thinking, but whatever it was... she was glad his ego had been hurt. Exactly what she wanted. He can't have his way with her every time he wants. She's not his puppet.Drexton's body pressed harder as if he was trying to join their bodies together."I'm going to make you wish you never said that," he whispered, releasing her hand and knees. He placed one hand on the wall, caging her in between.Ixora blinked rapidly, clueless about the thoughts running through his head."W..."He cut her shut, pressing his palm on the belly button.Ixora looked around, her breath turning raspy. They were outside, and anybody could come to this place unknowingly."Let me go," she pleaded."So sad Ixora had to disappear from the concert.""Poor Blake, he even passed out."Ixora immediately tilted her head to see the girls leaving the gate."Blake's unconscious," she thought, quickly comi
Ixora's eyes darted around, the cold air piercing into her skin. Blake was waiting for his response, the crowd was crying while awning happily at them. Audrey's eyes were misty because she already knew what her answer would be, and Nelly—she could understand the nervousness behind her silence. She locked her gaze onto Blake, and she could see he was anxious, scared of rejecting him. She was worried about him; he had been in the rain for a long time. What if he catches a cold? Her fingers brushed her neck and..."Come on, Ixora. Say yes!"A fan shouted, jerking Ixora back to the present. She looked and was able to see the other fans giving her a nod."Come on y'all, give her some hype!""Say yes!""Yes. Climb up the stage and accept him!""He's the best!"What a perfect match!"Ixora's gaze found Blake's again, and this time, her lips parted, but the words were just not—"I... I," she stuttered, clearly seeing the hidden disappointment in Blake's eyes if she turned him down. The fans'
[OUTSIDE]"Do you think we should go and check on her? She's not back yet," Ixora asked."Give her time, getting rid of ice cream is not that easy," Audrey said, and just then they saw Nelly walking towards them, her gaze lowered.Ixora and Audrey furrowed their brow, staring at the leather jacket she was wearing."If I'm not wrong, you went to the bathroom to clean the ice cream stain, right? How come you came back with a jacket? Did you... perhaps meet your boyfriend and he...""That's not what happened," Nelly said, cutting down Audrey's assumptions. She flashed Ixora a smile, going closer to them. "I tried to get rid of the stain, but you know my clothes got wet. I thought of what to do because I couldn't come out with wet clothes. Luckily, I met a guy, he took pity on me and gave me his jacket." Ixora and Audrey stared at her, speechless for a second. "You are sure a random guy gave you this? It looks too expensive to be given out just like that," Ixora said, scrutinizing her.
[BLAKE'S HOUSE]The door creaked open, and Skye walked in.Audrey, who was busy with her phone, saw him."Pathetic," she muttered, shaking her head. "How was your date?" Skye sat beside her, ruffling her hair. She frowned, hitting his hand away.He sat upright, facing the ceiling."It was the best. She was very sweet." He smiled to himself, dreamily. "I just realized she's not as arrogant as she is in the agency. There was no dull moment."He looked at Audrey when he didn't hear anything from her. "What?"Audrey flickered his cheek."Why would you do that?" he frowned, rubbing his cheek."Weakling," she hissed. "You have no idea how dumb you looked while describing her." She placed her hand on his shoulder. "Take my advice, start looking for another girl, the one that'd be by your side when she finally breaks your heart. It'd be for your own good."Skye slapped her hand off his shoulder. "Thank you, sister, for your kind advice, but I know Bonnie loves me. Her reaction at the date wa
[IXORA'S HOUSE]"Morning, mum," Ixora greeted, climbing down the stairs.Georgia smiled. "How was your night?" Ixora held her rails, smiling to herself. "Amazing."Georgia narrowed her brow, staring at Ixora. "You look exceptionally happy today. What happened?"Ixora shook her head and glanced at the door to see Nelly coming in."Xora," Nelly mumbled."You're here," Georgia said, standing up. She picked up her purse from the table.Ixora looked away from Nelly. "Mum, where are you going?" "We have a meeting, and your dad is coming back. I will go to the airport straight from the office," Georgia explained.Ixora walked to her mother. "Great. I will come with you. Drop me off at work." She held her mum's hand.Georgia glanced between her and Nelly, noticing the awkwardness between them."But, Nelly is...""Mum, I have to go to work." Ixora cut her off."Okay." Georgia stretched, leading the way.She smiled at Nelly when she got to her. Ixora wanted to walk past Nelly when Nelly held h
[SKYE'S HOUSE]"Do you like it?" Skye asked while observing Bonnie closely.Bonnie flashed him a smile. "Never knew guys could cook."Skye smiled, staring at her lips. He took a wipe and cleaned the sauce that had smeared her lips."Thank you."Both traced their gazes to the window, staring at the heavy downpour."It doesn't look like it'd stop anytime soon," Skye muttered."I have no choice but to spend the night at your house then."Skye turned to her. "You have no problem sleeping in my house?" Bonnie stood, striding towards him. "Why would I have a problem sleeping at my boyfriend's house?" she mumbled, trailing her gaze along his jawline. She gripped his collar, pulling his face closer to hers. Her other hand, resting on the table.Skye's gaze fell on her face, and his breath slowed.Bonnie inched herself closer, pressing her lips on his. Skye's eyes stayed glued to her face as she broke the brief but meaningful kiss. She trailed a wet kiss from his lips down to his neck."Wha
