mountain wind hit my face like a slap the second my boots sank into the snow.

Radek didn't offer a greeting, and he certainly didn't offer a hand. He just jerked his jaw toward the rear of a massive armored transport idling inside the gate, its exhaust churning gray clouds into the whiteout.

"Keys on the roof. Step away," he ordered. His voice was flat, gravelly, and stripped of anything remotely human.

"I’m Dr. Vance," I said, my teeth wanting to chatter as the icy draft stung my raw skin. I forced myself to stand tall, burying the tremor in my chest. "Jaxson Cole’s board-appointed lead specialist."

"I know who you are," Radek cut in, not even looking me in the eye.

He gestured to two guards who immediately swarmed my small Skoda. They didn't just check it; they ripped into it. I watched in silent horror as they pulled out the trunk carpet, tossing my personal belongings into the slush, before running heavy magnetic scanners along the undercarriage.

"Here, you’re just an unverified security variable," Radek added coldly.

He shoved me toward a heated, stainless-steel screening bay built directly into the guardhouse. The sharp smell of bleach and warm metal hit me, but it did nothing to take the chill out of my bones.

For fifteen agonizing minutes, Radek personally oversaw a methodical, humiliating check. My medical coat was run through a portable X-ray unit. My physical kit was systematically gutted every scalpel, every roll of athletic tape, every sealed vial of anti-inflammatory solution unzipped, inspected, and logged onto a heavy digital clipboard.

When his rough, gloved hand closed around my personal tablet and encrypted backup phone, my heart plummeted. I took a sharp step forward.

"Those contain confidential patient files," I pleaded, my voice tight. "From my practice in Kraków. I need those to treat him."

Radek didn't hesitate. He tossed the phone into a lead-lined case and snapped a heavy padlock shut over the top with a sickening clack.

"No outside devices on estate grounds," he said, keying the lock tight. "You’ll use the internal network terminal provided in your quarters. Everything logged. Everything monitored."

He stepped closer, his broad frame blocking out the overhead fluorescent light and casting a long shadow over me. Up close, the faint, bitter smell of cheap tobacco and cold ozone clung to his coat. His steel-gray eyes scanned my face, digging for a crack, a hesitation, any subtle sign of deceit.

"Let me make something entirely clear to you, Doctor," Radek said, his voice dropping an octave into a low, absolute threat. "My job is to keep Jaxson Cole alive. Make one wrong move near his files, or try sending unauthorized updates back to your uncle in Kraków, and you won't leave these mountains."

He held out a black plastic keycard. I snatched it from his hand, refusing to break eye contact, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing me shrink back.

"I came here to do my job, Radek," I whispered, the lies tasting like ash on my tongue. "Nothing else."

He didn't answer. He simply swiped his own card against the heavy steel door at the back of the bay. It slid open with a deep, pneumatic hiss, releasing a fresh blast of freezing mountain air.

Beyond the threshold lay the inner compound, surrounded by the jagged, snow-capped peaks of Zakopane. And standing twenty yards away, framed by the swirling blizzard, was Jaxson.

My breath hitched in my throat.

He wasn't in uniform. He wore a long, dark coat pulled tight against the cold, leaning heavily on a carved wooden cane. His jaw was set in a hard, defensive line, his dark hair dusted with frost. But it was his eyes that stopped me dead in my tracks.

When his gaze locked onto mine, the air left my lungs entirely. There was no warmth in his stare. No relief. Only a razor-sharp, dangerous suspicion that mirrored Radek's.

Jaxson took a slow, deliberate, painful step toward me, the snow crunching loudly under his boot. He paused, his heavy gaze raking over my face, searching for something I desperately hoped he wouldn't find.

"You're late, Dr. Vance," Jaxson said, his deep voice carrying over the roar of the wind, laced with a bitter edge.

He stopped just a foot away, leaning over his cane, his shadow swallowing me whole. He reached out with a gloved hand, his fingers stopping mere inches from the collar of my shirt, right where my uncle's wire was taped against my collarbone.

"Let's see if you're actually here to save me," Jaxson murmured, his eyes narrowing into deadly slits, "or finish what you  started in Kraków."

The silence inside the car was worse than the cold. It was heavy with everything I’d left behind in Kraków the smell of hospital disinfectant, the quiet horror of an empty apartment, the sheer, crushing reality that everyone I loved was gone. I was driving toward a ghost because I had nothing left to lose. There were no tail lights ahead of me. No headlights in the rearview mirror. Just the rhythm of tires crunching over packed ice and the gale screaming against the glass. Then, the trees gave way.An iron perimeter cut through the dark forest like a jagged scar. Wires hummed under a crust of ice, and massive steel gates blocked the road. I slammed the brakes. The car skidded, fishtailing into the slush before jerking to a halt. Before I could turn off the key, blinding spotlights snapped on along the fence. White light flooded the cabin. The heavy clunk of hydraulic locks echoed over the storm, and three black SUVs rolled out into the snow, trapping my little car in a neat, ruthless

Then you had better pray he blames the brace, not the woman whose symbol is on it” he said and moved away from me. Don’t keep Mr Cole waiting…the private vehicle is waiting at the garage for you. After the board meeting,I sat at the massive conference seat, surrounded by stacks of legal binders, my fingers running through the contract paper Bronisław’s team had handed me. Every time I turned a page, a fresh wave of nausea hit my stomach. I was looking for a page where I could find a solution, something that could help me out of this situation. "There has to be something," I muttered, my voice very low,as I read through each paragraph on liability indemnification. "He can't just assign a licensed medical professional like that, that violates standard European athletic board regulations." Kaja stood near the door, her dark eyes tracking me as she ran a hand through her unequal blonde bob. "Sienna, I've been running the document through three different contract analysis algorithms

I stood helpless like a sheep sold out without any choice. He turned towards the door and left me with a sharp answer “you have no choice Sienna”Outside the glass, rain was beginning to streak across the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking downtown Kraków. Below us, the city was in absolute rage, sport networks had been running non-stop coverage of Jaxson Cole’s catastrophic knee injury for the last twenty four hours straight. Every major news outlet was tearing through our corporate reputation, spreading the failure of Vance bio-mechanical brace like vultures picking over a fresh kill.I stood near the edge of the conference table, my arms crossed tightly over my chest, trying to warm the cold off me.Beside me, Kaja was tapping her foot on the plush carpet, her leather jacket creaking slightly with every tense movement.Around the thirty-foot table sat twelve board members, every single one of them dressed in dark, tailored suits, their faces pale and rigid. The room was so quiet.

I stared at the glowing text in the pitch-black stadium.Across the field, the emergency vehicle carted Jaxson Cole away, the sirens silent but the flashing red lights gave the only signal.Forty thousand people were still standing frozen in silence. The press vans had already surrounded the stadium gates outside, satellite dishes unfolded too. The whole stadium was so noisy, that my head became too heavy.I left with grief to the private telemetry lab, my hands were shaking so much ,I could barely input the door code.I walked into the room, kaja was in there. All I did was stare and think."If you keep staring at the floor like you're waiting for it to swallow you, Sienna, your spine is going to lock in place."kaja said.I flinched, snapping my head up.Kaja stood near the coffee stand in the corner, holding two oversized cups, steam curling into the chilly air. "Drink this," Kaja said, walking over and shoving one of the cups directly into my hand, "you look like a ghost that just g

I never knew what my eyes saw,Was it a dream or should I call a nightmare,I had always known something was off.I looked down again at the screen, as a secondary line of automated code executed itself right before my eyes:DIGITAL SIGNATURE VERIFIED: DR. SIENNA VANCE.ENCRYPTION KEY OVERRIDDEN.The warning on the diagnostic console pulsed like a fresh wound. My fingers hovered over the glass screen, i was completely confused.Someone was using my administrative clearance to breach Jaxson Cole’s profile, and the system was stamping my name into the audit log with every byte of my data stolen.“Sienna, what’s going on?” Kaja asked, her hands on the edge of the aluminum table she leaned on,her eyes widening as she read the red terminal prompt. “Is that… Cole’s pre-game telemetry? How do you even have access to their server?”“I don’t have access to Cole’s team server” I whispered as tears ran down my chin, my voice tight. “I’m not the one accessing it.”Before I could force a manual sy
