Aria p.o.v

Mom and I sat in the living room, trying to come up with glimpse of hope as we contacted everyone she knew. Her friends, colleagues at work, but no one had heard from her.

I even tried reaching her through all her social media accounts, hoping to convince her to come back home. But no way, it’s as if she just disappeared from the face of the earth.

Dad came home later that evening from work, looking frazzled and worried. He must have had a hard time trying to solve this.

“Any news?” He asked, his eyes scanning the room as if hoping to see Sophia sitting there. He must have had his fair share of searching for her through his influence.

But knowing it a hard tad to look for someone that doesn’t want to be seen, he must have exhausted all this means to look for her. She had left her phone and credit cards behind, making it a lot harder to track her.

“Nothing.” Mom said shaking her head sadly, “We’ve tried calling all her friends but no one has heard from her.”

“Some of them must have lied.” Dad conclude, rubbing his temples.

I shrugged, considering his words to be true. For her to have successfully escaped, there must be someone helping her out.

“This is a disaster.” Dad sighed, growing more frustrated. “Mr Vaughn is not going to be happy about this.”

I felt a surge of fear at the mention of his name, I have heard rumors about him on the news, about his ruthless and cunning he was in business.

What would he do when he finds out that Sophia had ran away from their wedding.

“I have a solution.” Dad suddenly spoke, after some moments of silence where everyone was deep in thought.

Eager, mom and I sat up immediately. “What?” Mom asked, it was easy to pick up the temporary relief in her voice.

“Aria.” Dad said my name, his eyes pinned me to my seat. I felt my heart paused as I wait to hear what he wants to say.

It was as if his eyes were passing a silent message to me, one I couldn’t comprehend.

“Yes, dad.” I answered unsure.

He paused for a while without saying anything, and so did my breath. His face twisted into a scowl, as if he had expected to understand what’s going on in his mind.

“You’re going to replace Sophia.” He said simply.

I heard not only my gasp, but mom’s as well. She must have been shock as I was, only that mine is slowly turning into anger.

“What?” I yelled loudly. My chest rising and falling faster that the sound of speed, it was from both anger and shock.

What the hell did he mean I have to replace her? Is this something joke?

“You heard me right, you will replace your sister and that’s final.” Dad said in his end of discussion tone.

But this is so not the end, I would have been the obedient girl I was and agree to his demands if this was a different situation.

“Honey, we can’t do that to her, we have to find so other way.” Mom tried to convince dad, but he was adamant about his decision as he shook his head strongly.

“No, not if we want to be beggars for the rest of our lives. Then that’s the only way.” Dad insisted.

“No, I won’t. That’s crazy.” I exclaimed, I must have took dad by surprise as he stare at me. I have never gone against his decision my whole life, he has been a detector our whole life and have made decisions on our behalf.

Some we like, others completely opposite of what we want. But not this time, he’s not going to choose who I should spend the rest of my life with. And definitely not someone like Vaughn Slade.

Now I see the reason Sophia has to run away, she couldn’t say no to dad especially when Vaughn has making it clear that it’s her. She had no choice but to run away.

“I’m not going to marry some stranger just to save a reputation that’s not even mine.” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

“This is not about our reputation, if we don’t go through with this marriage. Vaughn Slade will ruin us and make sure we never recover from it.” Dad growl, he was sounding like I should be reasonable and understand whatever it is he’s trying to avoid.

But he should be the one to wake up, this is the same that’s supposed to protect us as his daughters. Instead he’s offering us off to a man who other father has the balls to keep their daughters away from.

“You can’t just sacrifice me to save our family, I refuse.” I felt the surge of anger at the thought of being blackmailed into marriage.

“I’m are not sacrificing you, Aria. I’m trying to protect you and our family.” Dad stood up, his face red with anger.

“Darling, I need you to calm down, I will talk to your dad about this.” Mom tried calming me down, whilst eyeing dad down.

“There’s no need, I’ve made my decision and I will be informing Mr. Vaughn about the change of situation.” Dad said as he made to walk away.

But my next words stop him in his tracks.

“I have a Boyfriend.” I hurried out, desperate that would make him change his mind.

Was planning to tell her after Sophia’s wedding.“Liam, Liam Edward.” Dad beat me to it replying to mom’s question. “I know about your little cheating boyfriend.” Dad smirking thinking his words would get to me.Liam wouldn’t cheat on me, he’s loved me too much to do some. But dad won’t agree as he’s too desperate for me to marry someone else.“And oh, I know he’s Vaughn’s nephew, so you have to end what it is that is going on between you two.” Dad said with a smug look.Yes, Liam is Vaughn nephew, but we’ve already started dating before the marriage proposal arose for Sophia and Vaughn a week ago. I’m definitely not going to breakup with my boyfriend, just to get married to his uncle. How would that make me look to the world.“I won’t do it. I’m going to talk to Liam now.” I yelled at my dad’s retreating back.I stormed out of the house, ignoring mom’s pleas for me to calm down. She shou

Aria p.o.vI didn’t actually notice how I had find my way to this park, after I drove away from Liam’s house. Here, I am sitting on a bench on top of a hill, overlooking the rest of the park. Cool breeze blowing past me, doing a great job at helping me calm down.I didn’t know how long I’ve been here, occupied with Liam’s betrayal. How had I been so blind to this? How could he callously throw away our tel, our trust, and our love? I asked myself.Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I thought about all the times he had been so distant, all the times he had made excuses for how he couldn’t see me. I had thought it was just because he was busy, but now I realized it was because he was busy with Rachel.I’d been so blind, so trusting. And now, I feel like a fool.I felt a wave of emotion hits me, and I started to cry. The tears I’d been holding back finally broke free, streaming down my face as I sobbed uncontrollably.I cried for what felt like hours, letting out all the buildup em

Aria p.o.vI arrived at home, I wasn’t too stunned by the scene before. It wasn’t unusual to see cars in front of our house, as dad sometimes have his business partners over. But I was stunned by the giant men in all black suit standing in front of our house, guiding the front door with an equally intimidating black glasses on. Hand behind their backs and staring straight ahead. As I stepped out of my car, the giant men in black suits turned to face me, their expressions unreadable behind their sunglasses. I felt a shiver run down my spine as they scrutinized me, their gazes lingering on me for a moment before they nodded curtly and returned to their posts.I took a deep breath and made my way towards the front door, my heart pounding in my chest. What was going on? Why were they guarding our house? Is he trying to imprison us in our own home?As I entered the house, I was immediately struck by the tense atmosphere. My parents were seated in the living room, their faces pale and wor

Aria p.o.vI was a living example of nervousness, if anything I was seconds of passing out. The news of my marriage to Vaughn has been the talk of the town within twenty-four hours. How it managed to get to the news channels, I have no clue. All I know is that yesterday when I woke up, the news has spread like wildfire. The only good thing was that my face, nor even a shadow portrait of me was not published.Vaughn Slade is getting married to a woman named, Aria Julian. That was the headline for every news channel possible.I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing, but I know I’m not only protecting my mom but also getting my revenge.Liam has been on my back with calls and texts, claiming we needs to talk. Well, there’s nothing left for us to talk about, him and his new girlfriend has said a lot that day. He even went as far as saying we’re still together, why would I be getting married to someone else. And that too to his uncle.Oh now, we are still together? How come I didn’t kno

Aria's p.o.vI felt invisible as I stood beside Vaughn Slade, who was unbelievably my husband. I received several handshakes and irrelevant jokes from business tycoons I had only seen on the news and my wedding felt surreal. I began to feel as though I didn’t belong there and one of the influential women I met, Charlotte Gaspar, made it worse as she approached me with a disgusted look.Charlotte is the founder of a large designer brand worldwide, SPRUCE. I heard she and Vaughn had been dating unofficially for nine years. She had a cold demeanor as she approached. It seemed as though she was walking toward me but she stopped a few steps before she got close enough. She gazed at me and turned to Vaughn.“Vaughn baby, congratulations my love.” She wore a wide smile on her face and gave him a warm embrace with her hands hanging around his neck. “You look as edible as always.” She held a wine in her hand that kept swinging as though it was going to spill from the glass because she wasn’t h

Aria’s p.o.vI turned to see Vaughn as he stood and gazed at me with no expression on his face. I wondered if I was going to have any form of honeymoon with his kind of husband who doesn’t even care to speak to me. I walked towards him and one of the bodyguards opened the car for me to get in. I was amazed and stood to appreciate the interior design of the car for a minute before I got in. I tried not to look back at my mum so I would not tear up again or get to see the worry that she wore all through the wedding on her face again. I expected the guards to get in with us because we had enough space for them and I knew Vaughn never goes anywhere without them but after Vaughn got in, they closed the door behind him and the driver drove us out.It felt absurd having to sit alone with Vaughn. I did not know if I was supposed to ask him questions like if he liked me or how many children he wanted to have or if he knew I was dating his nephew before this happened. Thinking of Liam gave me

Aria’s P.o.v With the loud partying, I knew my wedding night would end nowhere near normal. I wasn’t sure I wanted to have sex with Vaughn anyway, but maybe I wanted to prove myself because of what Charlotte Gaspar had said earlier on at the wedding. Speaking of which, I realized I had not seen Vaughn for a while. I scanned around but I couldn’t find him. I didn’t know where he went or saw him when he left. I raised my neck as I tried to see above my 5’5-inch height which was helped by the 2-inches heels I wore. I didn’t think it made any difference because everyone felt taller than me and I still couldn’t see him anywhere.“He went to his room already. You should go up and join him. You’re done here for tonight.” Mrs Slade snuck up on me from behind and I could feel her cringe and excitement as she spoke. Several things went through my mind and I felt goosebumps all over my body as I heard those words hop out of her mouth. This was not going to be the best experience of my life, I

Aria’s P.o.v“Why are you standing close to me?” Vaughn asked me but refused to give me his attention. His gaze was still fixed on what he was doing.I looked down to see what he was doing and I realized he was drawing a map. It seemed like he must not miss any detail with how keen his attention was on it. I wanted to let him be but this was our wedding night. I felt cheated that he was willing to stress himself over a map but he couldn’t spare me a little of his energy to talk to me.“I need you to help me undress.” Vaughn scoffed. “There are several maids in this house. I have no business touching your dress or you.” He finally raised his head and gazed at me. His gaze was soft and I could not dispute that he looked so vibrant for a thirty-nine-year-old man. “I’m hurt.” I locked my eyes with his and spoke with a straight face. “You get married to me, treat me like I’m invisible, and now, rob it on my face that I’m unworthy to you. Perfect.” I turned away from him and led myself o

Aria's P.o.vI couldn't understand why he wasn't doing anything other than that and I didn't want to make it weird by looking him in the eyes.I didn't hear him say or see him do anything after I had said that so I was forced to raise my head and look at him. “Is there something you want to say?” I asked him because I didn't know why he was quiet. He had a warm and gentle smile on his face that made him look like an angel. I loved every part of his beautiful face and couldn't believe that he was taking so much care of me and acting like he was in love with me. He shook his head and said, “Nothing. I did not just know how I found It so hard to recognize that you had been with me all these months. You're more beautiful to the eyes and I know any man will want to be with you more than you might imagine.” His voice warmed my heart and I didn't know if he did that because he knew that it was a charming thing to do or he meant every word that he said. I kept my unbelief to myself but smile

Aria's P.o.vI didn't understand how Vaughn expected me to just be fine with the fact that I couldn't walk for some time. I don't even know when. “I can't be confined to a chair for god's sake. I had a lot to take care of.” I was worried about myself. “We don't even know when I can walk again. What if it's after a year? Or two? Or worse, five?” I began to make terrible assumptions to scare myself and I said them out loud to Vaughn. The more I thought deeply about it, the more I realized that several things were wrong with the fact that I would just be confined to a chair. “You won't be confined to a chair for long. It's not going to happen. You will have a personal therapist who will help you ensure you walk in a faster time. You don't need to worry about all of these things. I have them all under my control.” Vaughn assured me.Vaughn picked up the food he had bought for us and opened it up. “You've not eaten any good food in a while. I know you must have been tired of eating the m

Aria's P.o.vThe hurts of the unknown of all that Vaughn is involved in that could be the reason behind why my family is in disarray filled my heart as I lay in bed, glancing at the ceiling, sickly. I wished for several signs or explanations that could help me believe Vaughn or truly show me that he truly was clear of all the accusations I had against him. “But I know Vaughn. He just looks like it from the outside, I don't think he will do things with the intention to hurt me…” I said inwardly.Vaughn had gone out of the room to get me something to eat and maybe speak to someone. I didn't even know what went on that caused me to faint, all I just knew was that whatever happened to me got Vaughn scared and made me see that he really cared for me but he was just hiding his intentions.I held myself to sit up. I felt my body ache. It was as though my bones were too weak and they didn't want to be moved. I wasn't going to give into that anyway because I knew there was a lot of work ahead

Aria's P.o.vVaughn moved aside for the doctor to properly assess me. He stood behind him and watched him as he asked several questions. “Aria, can you see me well?” The doctor leaned in and asked me. He took his pen torch from his side picked and opened it into my eyes. I felt a sharp pain at first but subsequently, I let him look at me and I moved my eyes around as the bright light from the pen disturbed me from fixing my eyes in a particular spot. “She's reacting good.” He faced Vaughn and assured him. Later, he took off his stethoscope from his neck and swung it in his hand as he tried to put the right part in his ears. He checked something around my breasts, I wondered if he was checking my heartbeat. I didn't know even though I always hoped to be a nurse. I didn't know and, in that moment, all that mattered to me was for me to know what exactly was wrong with me.“Aria, can you hear me? Can you please speak up? You can hear us, right?”Nothing was wrong with me when the docto

Aria's P.o.v“Why does it feel like there's something still odd about you and your request?” Vaughn looked at me in the eyes for a while. He shook his head and walked away from me, backing me. I took a deep breath out as I had been standing, as though he had choked me with his eyes, and any slight mistake I made could cost me. I cleared my throat and said, “I have nothing to hide from you, but I genuinely need the money. That shouldn't be hard for you to do.”Vaughn scoffed. “I don't think you don't have anything you can hide from me because I feel like you're already hiding something with this request. Aria, tell me whatever it is you're hiding now. Let me know.”I looked Vaughn in the eyes and made sure I acted strong so he wouldn't see through my weak eyes. “I am hiding nothing.”Vaughn looked over my head, back at me, and over again. I turned to look at what he was glaring at. My heart was palpitating. I hoped that I had not left anything in the wrong place that would make him su

Aria’s P.o.vI trembled at the thought of the fact that I was caught. I couldn’t afford that ever to happen, I was certain Vaughn would kill me or something if he found out that I intentionally disobeyed him and took his niceness to me for granted. I already saw that he had just arrived and it wasn’t possible for him gets upstairs that fast enough. Perspiration drained my body as I watched the door fling open after several banging. Sandra seemed as though a large force pushed her into my room because she was close to stumbling after she entered. “The phone… Hand it over to me now.” Sandra sounded as though something hung in her throat as she spoke. I could barely hear her but knew the context of what she must have been asking me for was nothing more than the phone.Sandra stood in front of me and gazed at me keenly. I could see the anxiety in her look as she glared. It was as though she wanted to snatch the phone from my hand, given how slow I was at processing all that was going o

Aria's P.o.vSandra took a tiny button phone from underneath her sleeve and handed it to me. “You took quite a time to get the door. I feared that someone might find out I was hiding something before you get the door for me.”“While I was deliberating with the cook. She was scared to lend me the phone. She said the security just allowed her to take the phone into the room because she needed to speak to her daughter who was home alone and they did that without Mr Slade's consent. Another cook in the store room walked over to me and said he could help, he gave me this phone and said it cannot be traced to what house it came from or the owner of the phone. Don't worry ma, I didn't tell them you were the one who needed to use it.” Sandra added.I held the phone in my hand and smiled. “Okay. Thank you. Just help me standby outside, I will need about ten minutes and once the ten minutes is over, kindly knock twice on my door.”Sandra nodded and walked out of my room.I didn't know why; I be

Aria's P.o.v“Sandra, I need you to do something more important than the food you're trying to give me. Just place it down and let's get down to business now.” Sandra walked to the kitchen slab and placed the food down as she saw the urgency I used to speak to her. I knew she, and I understood I was not in the mood for all the cheerful gait she had.“Is anything the problem ma?” She walked back to me and asked out of concern.“Just follow me upstairs. I need as much privacy as I can get.” I said in a low tone and with a serious gait. It was as though Sandra was familiar with the possibility that whatever I needed her to do would put her into trouble. “Please let me get the food. If I walk into your room without anything, Mr Slade might think that we are planning a coup against him. I was going to say that I'm grateful you apologized on my behalf. He continued dressing and I didn't want to intrude on his privacy but I stood closer to the dressing area. “I know. But I need to see them, I miss my parent and I know my mum would have been expecting me to visit at least or check on them. Look, you haven't allowed me to call them either and I don't get emails from them anymore like I used to when I just got married to you.”Vaughn over the wardrobe at me and said, “I am not allowing you to go and speak with them. You have to let your past stay in the past.”“Vaughn! They are my parent. They are not my past!” I nagged and stayed on my terms. I didn't think Vaughn realized that I was supposed to still be able to see them when I wanted to even though I'm married and this marriage isn't supposed to
