Chapter 4

Mohini
Adam's POV

The way Diana had carried herself, so calm and composed, was as if the person who had been caught in that disaster had been a stranger.

The memory from that day flashed through my mind, and my legs gave out beneath me.

Flynn stepped forward in his polished dress shoes and stomped on my one good hand until flesh and blood blurred together. I screamed in agony, and only then did he finally stop.

The next second, he picked up the saw from the ground and viciously dragged it across his own palm. Blood immediately ran down his pristine white pants.

Hearing the commotion, Diana hurried over. The moment she took in the scene, she glared furiously at me. "Adam, if you have a problem, come at me! Don't you dare take it out on someone else!"

Before I could even defend myself, Flynn dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms around my leg, begging desperately.

"I know losing an arm has been hard on you, but taking over your project was the organization's decision. I had no choice. Adam, if hurting me would make you feel better, break my arm…"

As he spoke, he placed the bloody saw against his forearm, as if ready to sacrifice himself to make amends.

At that, Diana instinctively snatched the saw away and pulled Flynn into her arms.

When she looked back at me, her eyes were full of rage. "I know you're having a hard time, Adam, but that doesn't give you the right to take your anger out on Flynn! He's innocent!"

If he were innocent, would that make me the sinner then? Regardless, I knew better than to waste my time defending myself.

In the end, I simply looked at Diana in despair and asked, "Have you really regretted none of it?"

My question caught her completely off guard. The anger in her eyes faded a little. She pressed her lips together, but still gritted out, "I don't know what you're talking about."

A bitter laugh escaped me. At that moment, all the love we had shared over six years vanished without a trace.

Diana's eyes fell on my bloody left hand. She was about to say something when Flynn's sobs pulled her attention away.

"It's okay, Flynn. I'll take you to the hospital right now."

After the two of them left, I borrowed the exploration team's first-aid kit and hastily bandaged my wounds. Under the contemptuous stares of everyone around me, I left alone and headed for the airport.

On the way, I called the nurse from the andrology department and asked her to deliver the box to tonight's project launch.

Once everything was settled, I received a message from Diana.

"I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. I was just afraid that Flynn getting into trouble might drag you into it. Can I come home and apologize to you in person later?"

Yet the live news showed her with Flynn, arms linked, as they headed to the project launch. The comments online were filled with nothing but well wishes for them.

So, I wished them the same.

Third-Person POV

That evening, Diana and Flynn attended the exploration project launch together.

As she stared at the unanswered message on her phone, an uneasy feeling began to creep into her heart. She went around the venue as usual, greeting people and handling business, but her mind was elsewhere.

She couldn't tell if she was worried about Adam Henderson's arm or afraid that he might suddenly show up. Trying to sound casual, she asked Julian, "Adam isn't coming to the launch tonight, is he?"

Julian paused, looking confused. "Adam? You still don't know? He should be on his way to Nambara. With Flynn achieving such impressive results, Adam was the only one left to take the assignment."

At that, colors drained from Diana's face. She was about to step forward and demand an explanation when a nurse approached her.

"Mrs. Henderson, your husband found out that you arranged the cloud seeding. This is a gift he left for you before he departed. He specifically asked that you open it yourself."

Adam's POV"Where's Diana?" Flynn asked.I was just about out of patience. "I have nothing to do with her anymore. Leave me alone."I turned to walk away, but he kept coming after me, backing me toward the edge of a deep excavation pit. He sounded openly defiant."She stopped talking to me after you came to Nambara. How can you say she has nothing to do with you?"I cautiously told him to calm down while inching sideways, trying to create some distance between us. Just as he was about to push me over the edge, Diana rushed in and yanked Flynn away."What the hell are you doing?" she yelled. "As long as I'm around, you're not touching Adam!"The second Flynn saw her, he threw himself into her arms, sobbing dramatically. "I only came to find out where you were. Diana, I've missed you so much…"Since Adam made it clear that he doesn't want you anymore, why can't we just be together? He's not worth it!"Diana shoved him away in disgust and chose to stand on my side. She hurriedly

Adam's POVA bitter, restrained laugh slipped out of Diana. She pointed toward the group inside the private room, where my team members were."You consider these people your friends? I'm your wife. I'm the one who genuinely cares about you!"My wife? How ironic of her to call herself that?Diana looked down on my colleagues, but I had nothing but contempt for her either.I shoved her away, my anger finally boiling over. "You think you're so much better than all of us? Everything you've done makes me sick to my stomach!"With that, I raised my hand and slapped her across the face.It wasn't a particularly hard slap, but it was enough to stun her. Her eyes were red as she stared at me.I had never laid a finger on her. To her, I was always this pathetic man desperate for her love. As long as she didn't shake me off, I would keep following her forever. That was why she never had to worry about losing me. Sadly for her, I wasn't that clingy man anymore. After a long silence, Dian

Adam's POVAfter landing in Nambara, I reached out to the local authorities and spent the next few days settling in. The environment wasn't as harsh as I had imagined. Instead, every corner was filled with wonder. As an exploration geologist, I couldn't wait to throw myself back into work. Even with only one arm, I could still guide the team just as well as before.During dinner, one of my teammates showed me the trending story on his phone. "Captain Henderson, is that you they're talking about in the news back home?"After learning the truth, Diana clutched the diagnosis report and cried her heart out. In that short video, she looked as though she had aged ten years. Maybe she did regret what she had done. She must've realized that if she knew I would lose my reproductive ability, she never would've thought to lay a finger on me. Alas, it was too late.I was disabled, and I could never have children again. No matter how hard she cried, nothing would change.I watched the video

Third-Person POVDiana shoved Flynn away and rubbed her temples, her face flushed with anger. "Who the hell do you think you are? Adam is my husband! He's the only man I want to have a child with!"Flynn couldn't believe his eyes and ears. How did the woman who had once defended him suddenly become so cold?Biting his lip, he put on a wounded expression. "Just admit it, Diana. You love me. If you didn't, you wouldn't have taken my side and mocked Adam with me at the inspection ceremony!"At that, Diana immediately panicked. "What do you mean? Are you telling me that Adam never tried to hurt you?"Without thinking, he blurted out the truth. "How could a cripple possibly hurt me? I just wanted to prove that you loved me—and I was right."She collapsed into her chair.Flynn was right. She should've taken Adam's side. He was too kind a man to have done something like that.Looking back, she realized he had also been injured that day, tears still clinging to the corners of his eyes.

Third-Person POV"We're deeply sorry to hear that your husband has lost his reproductive ability, but are you saying you had no idea this would happen? If you'd known your plan would leave him infertile, would you still have gone through with it?""Now that your husband has gone to Nambara for work, are you willing, as the CEO of Nelson Group, to let him work in such harsh conditions?"The questions kept coming. Before long, the story became the top headline and spread across the internet.Diana no longer had the strength to answer. She couldn't even think straight. For the first time, she contemplated whether she should go looking for Adam.If she found him, how should she even face him? She could barely face herself.Clutching the report, Diana left the venue in a daze. Still holding on to a sliver of hope, she called every friend she could think of. Third-Person POVDiana stared at the box, her heart pounding so hard she could barely breathe. She stepped forward, her brow furrowed. "What did you say? What did Adam find out?"The nurse placed the box on the table and looked at her with contempt. "I heard the conversation in the hospital hallway that day, and so did Mr. Henderson. Honestly, I feel sorry for him for having a wife like you."With one last look of disgust, the nurse turned and walked away.By then, Diana had gone awfully pale. It turned out Adam had found out the truth from the very day of the accident. No wonder he hadn't told her that he had accepted the assignment to Nambara. But life with only one arm would already be difficult for him, let alone working in such harsh conditions. How could he possibly survive in a place like that? That thought sent Diana straight to Julian, her eyes red with panic. "I have to bring Adam back. Please, tell me where he is!"He sighed and shook his head. "The exploration team h
