SAPHIRE POV

I tried to yank my arm free but even with his injuries he is still pretty strong. I couldn’t get him to let go so I managed to keep my jacket on his injuries and he started trying to fight me like I was the enemy.

I had to try and hold his other arm back as he flailed around.

“Listen asshole, if you’re smart then you’ll let me go and let me save you. Otherwise if you keep stopping me, the Moon Goddess herself won’t be able to save you.” I snapped at him.

Somehow he snapped out of whatever delirious state that he was in and he let go of my wrist and I started treating his wounds the best I could with what I had. I pulled a small vile out of my pocket and I shook it up before I forced it down the man’s throat. It was to counteract the affects of the weapons that were used on this man. The weapons that have been designed to kill werewolves.

Every time I held pressure to one of his injuries he would scream out and moan but I finally managed to get the bleeding to stop.

The man lost consciousness before I could ask him any questions and I’m not a doctor. I didn’t know what to do with him now.

I’d stopped the bleeding which meant he was stable for now and he seemed to be more comfortable now that he was unconscious.

I wrapped my jacket around his ribs so it wouldn’t come loose and I got up and started running towards town.

When I got to the hospital I was covered in blood and there were several medical staff, doctors and nurses, that were working but they stopped when they saw me run inside.

“I need help. There’s a man by the river. He’s been attacked.” I said.

“Go and help him yourself.” A nurse sneered at me.

It was no secret that I wasn’t liked in this town but even I thought that was a little out there.

“Doctor. Please, he needs help. I think he’s been attacked by vampires.” I said.

“No one in this pack has been reported missing.” The doctor said turning his back to me.

“That’s because he’s not from this pack. But he’s injured and he needs help.” I said.

“I don’t help people from other packs.” The doctor scoffed.

But then an older doctor came to the foyer and he stopped the second he saw me.

“Saphire.” He said looking me up and down.

“Dr. Wilson. You need to come and help me. There’s a man by the river. He’s been attacked and he needs help.” I said.

“Hold on. I’ll get my bag.” He said.

So he went back to his office and he grabbed his medical bag and we left the hospital together.

We followed the same trail that I used to get to the hospital and Dr. Wilson was asking me a lot of questions.

“This isn’t going to go well for anyone. A non pack member in our territory.” Dr. Wilson said.

“I think the river brought him here. He’s soaking wet and really delirious. He was unconscious when I left him.” i said.

“Questions are still going to be raised.” he said.

“I know. But I don’t care about that right now. I just need help.” I said.

“Did he say anything?” Dr. Wilson asked.

“Only once. He grabbed my wrist and thought I was the person that hurt him.” I said.

“Yeah. That sound delirious. Tell me about his injuries. Wolves heal fast even from vampire attacks.” He said.

“They used their weapons.” I said.

“The ones that don’t let us heal.” He said.

“Yeah.” I said.

“Damn. So, these vampires know exactly what they’re doing.” He said.

“Yeah.” I said.

When we finally made it back to the river where I had left the injured man all we found was a blood soaked rock where he had been laying.

“He’s not here.” I said shocked.

I reached down and picked up my blood soaked jacket that was still on the bank of the river and I looked around only to find recent footprints in the dirt.

It didn’t make any sense. He wasn’t conscious. How could he just get up and walk away.

“He is probably still delirious. You said that you managed to stop the bleeding. I think we need to assume that he’s gone back to his pack.” Dr. Wilson said.

“He still needs help. I should try and find him.” I said.

“No. Definitely don’t do that. The people at the hospital would have already notified the Alpha about you asking for help. You don’t need that attention.” Dr. Wilson said.

“Yeah. Alright.” I said.

But I stood there trying to figure out where the hell this man could have gone in his state. He was so wounded that he passed out from the pain.

How could he just get up and walk away?

The room went deadly quiet until the woman looked at Kyle and then back at me. “You’re the guy from the river.” She said. “Alpha Dante Moretti.” I introduced myself. “Why the hell did you call me ‘mate’? I’m not your mate.” She said. “You saved my life. You knew what to do to stop those vampires from killing me. No one knows how to do that.” I said. “My father taught me.” She said. “Your father?” I said confused. “Her father was the great Samuel Matthews.” Kyle said in a condescending way. “Holy shit. Everyone knows about your father. He was the best vampire hunter we’ve ever seen.” I said. “And he also knew how to follow the rules.” Kyle said. “Do you ever get sick of listening to your own voice?” She asked looking at Kyle which caused his jaw to flex. Wow. She’s definitely got guts to stand up to her Alpha like that. But she could also just be pissed because she’s been detained for a bullshit reason. “What do you want?” She asked. “What’s your name?” I asked.

DANTE POVTravis got me back to the pack hospital where they stitched me up and made sure that all my vitals were fine. They wanted me to stay in the hospital but I was adament that I was leaving. When I got back to the packhouse Travis was waiting for me and we went into my office. “Have you contacted Alpha Kyle yet?” I asked as I sat behind my desk. “I left a message. He wouldn’t take the call.” Travis said. I leaned back on my chair and I started thinking about the pack that lived so close but was so far away. “What do we know about that pack?” I asked. “Not much. They make sure of it. He runs a pretty tight ship. He makes sure that everyone in the pack keeps their mouth shut and doesn’t talk to outsiders. No one really knows anything about them. Alpha Kyle became Alpha when he was 22 because his father was killed and his mother is still living in the pack. People believe that she’s still running the pack and she’s the reason why no one knows anything about them. She doesn’t

ALPHA DANTE POVDuring my usual rounds of the grounds was pretty routine. I liked to patrol my own territory to make sure that nothing is out of place. I don’t know why I do it but I always do. Especially with the rise of vampire attacks and I like to make sure that my pack is safe. This day wasn’t like any other day though. I didn’t catch a scent of anything, but as I heard something flying through the air I turned around just in time for it to strike me across the ribs. I fell to the ground and rolled to my side as I saw two vampires step out of the treeline and think they had won the ultimate prize by attacking an Alpha. But they underestimated me. After a fierce battle that severely injured me one of the vampires stabbed me in the chest with a silver blade and I fell back into the river with a strong current and carried me for so many miles. I finally felt something catch my ankle and when I reached down it was a net that looked like it had been placed there on purpose. Almost

SAPHIRE POVWe walked all the way to the packhouse and I saw people standing around everywhere outside. Some warriors were training in the field near the packhouse and other pack members were working around the packhouse like they always did. I walked past everyone as they were staring at me since I had an escort but I refused to look at any of them. When I first went into the packhouse I saw that it was unusually quiet but I could hear people off in the distance. In different directions. Upstairs and down the halls. They were all whispering so there’s no secret to me about what they were talking about. I knew that the warriors hated me because I didn’t bend to their will and do what is meant of me. They hated that I argued the point and I was defiant about everything because I actually spoke for myself instead of letting someone dictate my life to me. And Alpha Kyle doesn’t trust me. That’s always been obvious to me. I’ve never done anything to prove that I am a danger to the p

SAPHIRE POVDr. Wilson started walking back towards the hospital after he told me to be careful living out here alone but he knows that I can take care of myself. He’s just not sure if there are any people looking for that man or if vampires are going to appear. It’s something that I needed to keep an eye on. But after a lot of reassurances that I was going to be fine, we parted ways and I headed back to the cabin. As soon as I got close enough I heard voices in the distance and I smelt the unmistakable scent of warriors.I slowly approached my cabin and there were two warriors standing on my porch who both looked at me like I had been to war or something like that. “What the hell do you want?” I asked. “Vampires have been spotted in the area. We were told to come and warn you.” John said. “Yeah. I’m already aware.” I said picking up my groceries and walking inside my cabin. “How are you aware? Have you seen them?” Justin asked. “No. But I just tried to help one of their victims
