SAPHIRE POV

We walked all the way to the packhouse and I saw people standing around everywhere outside.

Some warriors were training in the field near the packhouse and other pack members were working around the packhouse like they always did.

I walked past everyone as they were staring at me since I had an escort but I refused to look at any of them.

When I first went into the packhouse I saw that it was unusually quiet but I could hear people off in the distance. In different directions. Upstairs and down the halls. They were all whispering so there’s no secret to me about what they were talking about.

I knew that the warriors hated me because I didn’t bend to their will and do what is meant of me. They hated that I argued the point and I was defiant about everything because I actually spoke for myself instead of letting someone dictate my life to me.

And Alpha Kyle doesn’t trust me. That’s always been obvious to me.

I’ve never done anything to prove that I am a danger to the pack, but again, it comes down to my attitude.

He probably thinks that I have the makings of being a traitor if someone approached me. So he always treated me like I was a traitor.

When we got to his office I was told to go inside and Alpha Kyle was sitting behind his desk waiting for me.

“So, I hear you’ve had an interesting morning.” He said.

“Yeah. Why do you care?” I asked.

“There was an unknown werewolf on our land and you failed to report it.” He said.

“The man was barely alive. After I got help and went back to the river, he was gone. There was no point in reporting it.” I said.

“Where is he?” Alpha Kyle asked.

“How the hell should I know. I told you that he was gone.” I said.

“Exactly. You don’t know where he is which means he could still be on our land doing goddess knows what.” He said.

“You’re really paranoid. Do you know that?” I asked.

“You broke protocol. You should have called it in.” He said.

“The guy was bleeding to death. As soon as I stopped the bleeding I went to get help. What part of this don’t you seem to understand? I am getting sick of fucking repeating it.” I snapped.

“You will not talk to me in that way.” He said.

“Oh sorry. I guess you get enough of that from the bitch that you chose to be the Luna.” I said staring him straight in the eye.

“This isn’t personal. This is because you did something wrong. Like you always do.” He said.

“Following basic human instinct isn’t doing something wrong. I was trying to save a man.” I said.

“And in doing so you’ve put the whole pack at risk.” He said.

“The guy was delirious. If he is still on your land then it won’t be hard to find him.” I said.

“I know. I’ve already got people out there now looking for him.” Alpha Kyle said.

“Then what the fuck do you want with me?” I asked.

“Because you’re being detained. You’re not allowed to leave the packhouse under any circumstances as of right now. You broke the rules and now you’re going to pay for them.” He said.

“Are you fucking kidding me? Are you going to lock me in the dungeon as well?” I asked.

“No. You’ll be given one of the dorm rooms on the first floor and you’re not allowed to leave that room. You’ll have a guard outside your door 24 hours a day.” He said.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. This is bullshit.” I growled causing Alpha Kyle to stand up from his chair so fast that it fell back on the ground.

“Don’t you ever talk to me like that again. I am your Alpha and you will show me the respect that I deserve.” He growled, his Alpha aura spilling out over the room as I stood there and stared at him.

I should have been on my knees in pain but instead, it didn’t affect me at all.

That didn’t mean anything to him except my defiant attitude and believing that I was just too strong willed to be bent to his needs.

If only he knew the truth.

But I was hoping that he never would.

“Guards. Get in here.” Alpha Kyle yelled.

“Yes, sir.” Justin said as they opened the door.

“Take her to dorm room 1 and stand guard there until I tell you otherwise.” Alpha Kyle ordered.

So Justin grabbed my arm and pulled me out of Alpha Kyle’s office and down the hallway to the dorm rooms.

I was pushed inside a very little room with only a bed and a dresser in it and I heard the door lock from the outside of the room.

I looked down and I could see Justin’s feet standing outside the door, doing exactly as he was told like a good little puppy.

The second Varek finished speaking I felt the shift in Dante before he moved and rage tore through the mate bond violently while his body lunged forward without hesitation. “Dante wait.” I yelled. He ignored me completely and his fist slammed into Varek hard enough to crack stone when his body hit the wall behind him and dust burst into the air around them.“You really should work on your temper.” Varek said calmly. Dante attacked him again immediately and every strike carried fury sharp enough to make the mate bond pulse painfully against my ribs. Varek blocked the hit and twisted sideways smoothly and the two of them crashed into the opposite wall hard enough to shake the floor beneath us.“Dante stop.” I yelled but he still didn’t listen. “You think you know her? You think you get to tell me who she is?” Dante snarled. Varek caught his arm before the punch landed fully and his expression stayed calm. “I think you’re proving my point.” Varek said and Dante slammed him backwar

The silence after my words stretched painfully between us and Dante kept staring at me like he was waiting for me to take them back while the unstable pull of the mate bond twisted hard under my skin. “I don’t believe that.” He said quietly. “You should.” I said. “No. Something is happening to you.” He replied immediately. “Something had always been happening to me. I just stopped ignoring it.” I said and his jaw tightened. “You sound exactly like Varek.” He said. Before I could answer another voice slipped calmly into the corridor behind us. “That’s because she’s finally paying attention.” He said. Dante turned sharply while tension exploded through the corridor instantly. Varek stood at the far end of the hall with his hands behind his back and a calm expression on his face like he had expected this conversation from the beginning. Dante stepped in front of me automatically. “You should have stayed hidden.” Dante said coldly but Varek smiled slightly. “And interrupt this

SAPHIRE’S POVThe silence after the fight felt wrong and the corridor around us carried the smell of blood and stone while distant sounds echoed deeper inside the building. I kept moving because stopping meant thinking too hard about everything that had happened. Dante grabbed my arm and pulled me hard into the next hallway before I could react. My back hit the wall sharply and his hand stayed locked around my wrist while anger burned in his eyes and that mate bond surged violently between us. The force of it nearly stole my breath. It hit fast and unstable. The pressure rolled through my body in uneven waves while instinct tried to drag me toward him even though my mind resisted it. And Dante felt it too. “There. You feel that.” He said roughly. “Yes.” I said. “Then stop fighting me.” He said. “I’m not fighting you.” I said. “That is exactly what you are doing.” He snapped. “No. I am trying to think clearly.” I said quietly. “You think this is clear? You are standing in ene

I held her gaze for another second after the words left her mouth. The tension between us sat heavy enough to choke the air from the room while the bond under my skin pulled harder than it ever had before. Then the sound of fighting exploded somewhere deeper inside the structure and the sharp crash of impact echoed through the corridors while distant voices rose with it. Sapphire reacted first. Not emotionally or instinctively. It was efficiently. Her head turned toward the sound and her posture shifted immediately while her expression stayed cold and focused. Something about the speed of that transition hit wrong in a way I couldn’t explain. “We don’t have time for this.” She said. “We’re not done talking.” I said. “No. But they’re already moving.” She replied while reaching for the blade at her side. Another crash echoed through the walls and this one came closer. “Then we move together.” I said stepping toward her automatically. Her eyes flickered to me for half a second be

DANTE’S POVI stared at her across the chamber and every instinct under my skin told me to close the distance and drag her out of this place before the walls around us shifted again. The calm look in her eyes only made the pressure in my chest worse. “You’re coming with me.” I said and my voice echoed harder than I intended through the room. Sapphire didn’t flinch and she didn’t look trapped or afraid. That alone kept twisting something sharper instead me. “No.” She said quietly and her tone carried certainty instead of resistance. My jaw tightened and I took another step closer while the bond between us pulled harder with every second we stood there. “This isn’t a game.” I said. “I know that.” She replied. “Then stop acting like this place is safe.” I said. “I never said it was safe. I said I am staying.” She said. “You don’t stay willingly with people like Varek.” He said. Her eyes narrowed slightly at that and she folded her arms slowly while she kept watching me like she

THIRD PERSON POVThe corridor narrowed until it forced him into a single line of movement. The shifting walls behind him sealed with a low grinding sound that removed any illusion of retreat. The echo of her voice carried ahead in a way that felt less like distance and more like direction. Dante moved toward it without hesitation. The pull under his skin sharpened with every step while the air around him grew heavier. The silence between each echo stretched just enough to make the space feel controlled. He turned the final corner and the corridor opened into a wide chamber that cut the tension cleanly. The sight of her standing there hit harder than anything he had expected. Sapphire stood at the center of the room and her posture was steady while her expression carried none of the straight or damage he had prepared himself to see. There were no restraints on her and no guards pressing in around her. She looked untouched. Calm even and that was wrong. Dante stopped just inside t
