Chapter 11 : Trouble is my nickname

The awakening was very bitter for Lydia this morning.

Yesterday should have been the best day of her life, but it turned out to be one of her worst nightmares!

She and Larry may have slept in the same bed, but they were each in their corner with a pillow in the middle to separate them.

Larry's attitude didn't sit well with her because she felt like she had married a bully!

When she woke up, he was already gone and had left a little note on the dressing table.

Lydia got up, grabbed her robe, slipped on her slippers, then took the piece of paper and read it.

It was simply written:

"Don't forget our conversation of last night!

Lydia tore the paper into miles of pieces and threw it on the floor.

"Idiot, ingrate, imbecile!" she shouted as she tore up the paper.

Suddenly, she heard a knock on the door.

She opened the door and saw Larry's father,

As soon as her father-in-law and the maids left, Lydia looked at all the dishes that were displayed in a large tray. She was so hungry and it looked delicious. She just wished that she and Larry had gotten off on the wrong foot and that they would work it out soon, but Larry seemed to be incorrigible!

When she finished her breakfast, Lydia took a shower and put on the dress the maids brought her.

It was an elegant blue, with rhinestones on the bustier. It was neither too short nor too long, but very tight.

Lydia was afraid that Larry would get angry when he saw her dressed like that. This guy seemed so unpredictable, but fortunately, his father was there to defend her.

She took her courage in both hands and put on the dress that was meant for her, then she went down to the dining room.

The table was sumptuous and garnished with red and green fruits. The maids came and went to bring more things. It was as if they were preparing a feast. There was red and white wine, roast turkey, salad, and more.

When Lydia arrived, Mr. Larson got up from his chair to greet her like a gentleman.

"So Lydia, how do you like your new home?" he asked.

"Yes...it's a very nice house. I'm...happy..."

"And tell me a little about yourself; what you like to do, what you do for a living, your dreams...go ahead, don't be shy. I'm a very simple and open person, and you can talk about anything with me!" he said as he poured some red wine into Lydia's cup, as well as into his own.

"Mr. Larson, are you sure you can drink this?

"Don't worry, I hope you're being secretive and that this will remain a secret between us!" said Lydia, "Let's not change the subject! Go on, tell me!

"Well, nothing special, I'm a simple girl. I like reading, watching movies, and dreaming about adventures. I've always wanted to help the sick. But unfortunately, life wanted it otherwise. But it's okay, it happens.

"You mean you wanted to be a doctor?"

"Nurse, to be precise."

"Why didn't you go for it then?"

"I... decided not to lean into his dreams anymore. I knew it wasn't for me..."

"You say one thing, and yet I see something else in your eyes, like a strange glow. What's bothering you?"

"Nothing, don't worry Mr. Larson, I'm fine."

"And your father?"

"What about my dad?"

Lydia's heart suddenly began to race. Her father was like the monster hiding under her bed when she was little. She had almost forgotten yesterday's episode, but now Mr. Larson was forcing her to remember!

"Did he have anything to do with giving up your dream?

"No...not at all..."

"I wanted to talk to you about that yesterday my dear Lydia! About your father... did you consent to this marriage? I mean, did he say or do anything that might have influenced your decision?"

Lydia's eyes widened, and she took a swig of wine.

"Did he say anything to you?" she asked.

"Did he hurt you, Lydia? Is he taking advantage of your weakness to manipulate you?"

As she reached for her glass once more, it slipped through Lydia's fingers, and the wine fell onto the table and her beautiful clothes.

"Oh my God, I'm so clumsy, I'm sorry."

"It's okay, Lydia. I'll help you."

Mr. Larson got up, grabbed a small cloth, and helped Lydia wipe the wine off her dress.

Suddenly, the front door opened and Larry appeared.

"So she wants to bang the son as well as the father! Wow," Larry said, clapping his hands.

"Shut up son! You ungrateful bastard! Is that how I taught you to talk to women?", Mr. Larson shouted.

Lydia was as if nailed to the spot. She never imagined that she would experience this scene, the day after her wedding.

"We...we weren't doing anything wrong...there was just wine that fell on my dress..."

"Well, as luck would have it, the day you put on a tight little dress, the wine falls on top! Ha! You make the birds laugh! Don't play that little game with me, I've had plenty of women like you! As they can't seduce one, they try with the other!

"That's enough, Larry!" shouted Mr. Larson.

"I'm not that kind of girl! "Lydia said, wiping away her tears.

"Yes, you're right, you're worse!", Larry replied with pride.

That was the last straw!

Lydia got up and ran to the stairs to lock herself in the room.

"Are you happy now?" Mr. Larson asked Larry.

"I won't be happy until she's out of here. Can't you see that this is a trick? Just when I'm not home, she plays you the part where she's a kind of damsel in distress?"

"Stop looking for the little beast where there isn't one, son! Or don't tell me you're jealous ?!"

"Me jealous? What kind of crap is that?"

"Larry Larson, I'm your father and I know you by heart. You have feelings for this girl even though you pretend you don't!"

"Yes, of course, you're right, Dad!"

"I knew it!"

"Yes, because the only feeling I have for her is hate and rage! She came into my life just as I was enjoying my freedom! Dad, she screwed everything !"

"You are so unfair to this poor girl who only wants to love and be loved. How could you fall so low, son? No, no, don't answer me because I already know what you're going to say; whimsical as you are! I...I'm going home! I can't stand you anymore! I'm going to die in peace in my own home!", Mr. Larry said as he got up from the table.

"Dad, stay here! We had a deal!"

"I don't do business with those who have no word! I would also ask you not to come to me or call me until you change your attitude towards Lydia."

"Dad, please..."

"There is no daddy or anything! You're not a kid anymore Larry! Make up your mind; either you change or you won't see me again! Goodbye!"

As soon as his father stepped through the doorway, Larry looked up from the stairs and clenched his fists. He had an urge of inexplicable rage! He never felt this way before!

He then grabbed the tablecloth that covered the dining table with one hand and pulled it towards him, knocking everything over! Food, wine, bottles ... all scattered on the floor. He then took the stairs, because he would have to settle this with Lydia!
