Chapter Forty Four

D and baby Derek have spent the past two days in the hospital, which gave the guys and me the opportunity to complete the nursery before bringing them home. Kasey, Gage, and I are on our way to pick up our wife and baby from the hospital. As we get closer, I'm feeling nervous. I hope I can be a good dad to this little guy who is coming home with us today.

As we pull into the hospital parking lot, my heart starts racing. I can't believe that in just a few minutes, I'll be holding my son for the first time. Kasey and Gage try to reassure me, telling me that I'll be a great dad, but the nerves are still there.

We make our way to the maternity ward and find D's room. She's sitting up in bed, looking tired but radiant. Baby Derek is swaddled in a blanket, sleeping peacefully in her arms. My heart swells with love and pride as I see them together.
