Chapter 6 Questions

TANIA:

So there was a celebration after all. I wasn't wrong in my perception as I thought that the inaudible noises weren't ordinary. How come there was an ongoing celebration and Talon decided to spend his night in the woods? What was he even doing there in the first place?

He led the way and I followed but I was still curious as to why he wasn't joining them in whatever it was they were celebrating.

"How come you are not partaking in the ceremony? Aren't you one of them?" I inquired, cocking my head to the side to get a glimpse at his face. Who knows? He might be angry about something. There was just no way that his people would be celebrating something and he decided to be in the forest, killing a wolf and saving me.

"I don't like noise. Ceremonies are..." Talon hummed. "...tiring."

"So are you saying that you don't want to partake just because it's noisy? Is that why you went into the woods?"

"Yes. Whenever I'm bored, I go for a hunting spree. Too bad it didn't go as I planned. Instead of an animal, I caught a girl," he shot me a side look before returning his attention back to his path.

How is that my fault? Did I ask for his help? I was on my own when he decided to save me from the Wolf and the guards of Crescida. Goodness gracious, what am I even saying? If Talon wasn't there at the right time, I would have been torn into shreds, my flesh peeled away by the claws of that angry animal. It wasn't like I had the skills to defend myself. It's been seven years since I last trained in Porthove -- and to me, there was no Porthove anymore and because I had been taken to be a slave, demoted to the level of the Omegas even though I was Luna, I wasn't felicitous to train with the Gammas.

Yes that right, I was nothing but a servant until Avalon decided to marry me off to that degenerate son of his, Lexi. Good riddance. Now that I am away from them and them from me, I will make sure to recover the 7 years they took away from me by living my life to the fullest while I gather all the substance and resources I need to save my people and recover my father's kingdom.

"Thank you for saving me. Without you I would have been dead by now," that was the only meaningful thing I thought I could say to Talon at that moment. Would I even have a voice to question him about forfeiting his people's ceremony to be in the forest if I wasn't alive? If he hadn't saved me?

"You have thanked me enough. It wasn't my intention to save you. I already perceived that you were just like me and it would be inappropriate to watch an animal of our kind tear you to pieces," he told me.

"Speaking of which, if the animal that attacked me was an ordinary animal and not a shifter, why did it try to attack me that is of its kind? I thought that animal wolves respected werewolves because of the animal blood that flows through our veins and our connection?"

I was very curious about this as I have been told tales of how we came to be and how all wolves were our friends as long as we shared the same animal blood. But seeing that that Night Wolf tried to kill me, I began to have doubts about it.

Normally I don't have to bother about the possibility of the tale being false but I am a scholar just like my late father and wouldn't be satisfied with anything that is left unsolved or unanswered.

"All wolves are not your friends, Tania. That animal wasn't a shifter. It was a pure animal. Just like werewolf packs and clans, we all have our allies and rivals. Not all werewolf packs are on good terms. Like the people that chased after you, they didn't seem to me like they were your people. You wouldn't have run away from them if you were on good terms with them. Different werewolf clans have their pure animals which they train to be either friendly and receptive to other werewolves of different clans or violent and brutal towards them." Talon explained.

Now that made sense. Even pure animals of the same packs do have their own issues and are sometimes prone to fight due to one thing or the other -- maybe food or mates or what not.

I stared hard at Talon as we continued our trekking journey to only the goddess-knows-where. I was so impressed by his swift, convincing explanation that I wondered how he was able to tell me what my own father couldn't tell me. Was he a scholar as well? He didn't really seem like one? Or maybe I was judging him by his hunter outfit. One thing was for sure -- if I was going to survive, I would need him by my side. He was the only one I knew after all. I was going to keep him as close to me as possible. I know that he is also trying to get rid of me in the morning. He told me that while we were still in the woods. I wasn't going to let that happen. I was going to prove myself to him even though I didn't know how.

Talon huffed as if something unknown amused him. "How long are you going to keep staring at me like that? It isn't like you haven't seen me before or should I say gotten enough view of me tonight."

"Isn't the eyes meant for seeing things? I can stare at you as much as I want. Maybe I haven't gotten enough of you," I paused right there, reviewing the last words that came out of my mouth, my eyeballs turning from side to side as I wished he didn't reason it the way I reasoned it. Whoa, that was a lot to babble.

"You haven't gotten enough of me. Interesting." Talon stopped and turned to look at me. Then he leaned towards my face, causing me to feel a slight tension in my body. "That is good to know, Tania. I guess I will have to reciprocate. Maybe I will help you to get enough of me and it is going to happen gradually."
