I was a keeper of many secrets, and I have been for a long time. Secrets that I can't ever share with the world because if I did, it would not only put me in danger but everyone I care about. I had given up the life that had taken so much from me, well, so I thought, but when the man that ruined everything for me showed back up, I don't have a choice but to get back into it. One more target and I will be free, that is what I keep telling myself. I have done this before; it won't be the first life that I have taken. I was hoping it would be the last. If I knew at the time, my target would be the man I was slowly falling for. I would have found a way to get out of it. But now I was in too deep, and I can't do anything about it, well so I thought. It turns out I am not the only one with dark secrets, and between us, it would be those dark secrets that would help change both our lives forever. Co-wrote with Emma-Louise

Chapter One - Scarlett!
Scarlett I woke to the sound of my alarm, it was only six a.m., but I don’t mind the early mornings. I have always been a morning person. I switched it off before sitting up and stretching. I checked my phone, seeing a text from an unknown number. I had no idea who it was because anyone who has my number I have theirs. There was only one way to find out, isn’t there? I opened the text, and as soon as I read it, I felt sick to my stomach. I knew straight away who it was, a person I hoped that I would never have to hear from ever again. Remember, you owe me and now is the time to pay your debt back. We need to meet. PJHow did you get my number? I thought we were done!! SI need another something completed PJ X You said I was done S Things change! Chapter Two - Caleb!
Caleb  I shot awake, sweating and breathing loudly. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. This was nothing unusual for me; it was a common occurrence for me, has been for the last few years. I checked the time, seeing it was six a.m., nearly time for my alarm for work. I only fell asleep two hours ago. I was used to it by now. I was used to the nightmares and my past haunting me. I sighed, running my fingers through my dark hair. I don’t think these night terrors will ever stop. There was no point in going back to sleep. I may as well get up and get ready for my day ahead. After having a roasting shower and a strong, sizeable black coffee, I leave for work. I walk there most days as the coffee shop isn’t too far from my house. I cannot wait to open up and have another coffee before I get started. I am used to having a few morning coffees with these late nights and early rises to get my day st

Chapter Three - Meeting PJ
Scarlett It was already ten a.m., but I was exhausted due to not sleeping last night because of the dread of meeting PJ today. I haven’t seen him in a year, and he made me believe I would never have to see him again. I should have known better. My anxiety was through the roof, just thinking about seeing him again. I wish I could just run, but that wouldn’t work because he would find me. The best thing for me to do was to do as he asks, and then hopefully, after that, he will leave me alone and let me get on with life. I know that I should take my car as it would be safer and more accessible for me to get away if I needed to, but the place he wants to meet is five minutes around the corner from my house. I am sure he chose somewhere close on purpose. The time is now creeping past ten forty-five. I need to leave because late is something I cannot be. So I lock the door, fruit smoothie i

Chapter Four - The beautiful red head...
Caleb  Surprisingly I had an excellent sleep last night; I think having two days off together has helped me. I spent my days doing everything I wanted to do, between catching up with some good documentaries I had recorded and gone to the gym to get my workouts and self-defence better. Having some me-time is the thing I need to do more often. I skip out the door at nine-fifteen to go to work, starting at ten a.m. on a sunny Sunday makes me happy. Sunday’s were never too busy, but it gave us time to make sure everything was ready for the week ahead of us. I was opening today; my boss doesn’t work Sundays, only one of the other guys and me usually. My colleague Nate was waiting for me to arrive. “Good morning Nate, how are you on this beautiful Sunday morning?” I said happily. “I am good, bud, thanks,” He smiled, “What has got you so happy? Did

Chapter Five - Life could have been different
Scarlett  I headed out of the coffee shop. I had made myself very familiar with it with the time I was in there. Though getting acquainted with the place was not why I stayed as long as I did, Caleb was the reason for that. He was one of most the gorgeous men I have ever seen with his dark eyes and hair; he was beautiful. I found him very sweet and charming too, and the way he got around me was adorable. I know I shouldn’t even be thinking about him. I shouldn’t be thinking about anything other than the job that PJ has given me, but I couldn’t help myself with Caleb. I never took my car with me because it was such a beautiful Sunday, so I walked back home and thought about Caleb the whole way. What was it about that fine man that got me in such a tizzy? Was it his looks, his charm, or just everything about this man? I don’t usually bother talking to men as every rel

Chapter Six - Trouble for me
Caleb  It had been a couple of days since I first met Scarlett, and to be honest, she has crossed my mind a lot. I have had a couple of days off, so my mind has not been as preoccupied as it would be if I were at work. But today, I was back at it, working eight a.m. to six p.m., but we would be kept busy. As today is Wednesday, it was me to open, and as always, Nate was standing waiting for me. I’m not sure if he is always early or if I always run late. “Late as always,” Nate said, laughing. “I can’t be late if it’s not past 8 a.m.” I replied, laughing back. I opened up, and we got straight into the morning set-up. We know that Wednesdays are busy as we do a coffee and cake deal which always brings in many customers, especially the regulars. Who wouldn’t want coffee and cake for £1.50! Everythin

Chapter Seven - Getting to know each other
Scarlett  I smirked to myself as Caleb walked away. I know I was a little mean, teasing him, but I couldn’t help myself. I watch as he heads over to his colleague, the two of them talking. His colleague was looking over at me as they did. Could it be any more evident that they were talking about me? I let out a small giggle and got back to reading my book until Caleb was ready to come over and join me. I don’t know why Caleb has drawn me in the way he has, but I couldn’t help myself. I could feel his eyes on me now and then as he served other customers. I made sure to flash my best smile at him or send a quick wink his way. I don’t know the last time I had these thoughts or feelings towards someone. I never get myself too involved as they never work out. My past is too messy to try and explain to someone, so I keep my life simple by just avoiding relationships altogether.

Chapter Eight- My Target!
Scarlett  Seven a.m. on a Friday morning, and my alarm was going off. I forgot to turn it off last night before going to bed. Well, I'm awake now. So, I may as well get up and enjoy the rest of my day. It's not very often I get a half week at work, so it is time to make the most of it. First things first, a shower and coffee to start my morning. After I make my coffee, I head through to the living room to catch up on some TV, and that's when I see the white envelope sitting just inside my door. Pretty sure it's too early for the post around here. I have the fear. I'm already one hundred per cent positive I know who it is from and if I ignore it, pretend I never saw I know there will be consequences. I have been in such a good mood the last couple of days, and now he needs to ruin that for me. I groaned in frustration, going over to grab it. I ripped it open, and there were only a few words wrote.

Chapter Nine - Night out!
Caleb I was heading out to meet Nate and one of our other friends Ryan for our guys night. I was in a good mood. I have been for most of the week. I had text Scarlett yesterday, but I have yet to hear back from her. I was not overthinking it, though, because I know her job will keep her busy. She would reply when she has the time, I hope. But right now, I was looking forward to going out for a few drinks, a couple of games of pool and good company. Of course, I got to the bar first, so I ordered myself a pint and got the pool table set up. And moments after I got things ready, Nate appeared and went straight to the bar to get a drink.  “You want a drink?” He shouted over to me. “I’ve already got a pint, Nate, thanks though”, I shouted back over. I sat down to have a drink whilst waiting for him to come. It is good

Chapter Ten - Girl's night!
Scarlett  I was having the best time out with the girls. We had gone for an early dinner and cocktails. I haven’t had a good night out in a long time. I have been working so much recently, so I’m glad Nicole created a group chat and arranged for us to go out. We were all so busy now with life; it was hard to get us all together. “Why is your face tripping you?” Nicole asked. “I’m fine,” I smiled, “Just waiting for the karaoke to start,” I added. “Ok, if you say so, Scarlett,” Nicole said, staring straight at me, then turned to get her drink off the bar. I am fine, and I am happy, but my phone battery died before I got to tell Caleb where I was. I would love to meet him tonight. I gave the barman my phone to charge when I came in. So I will get it back shortly and reply to Caleb.&nbs
