Heather's POV

A hand-span above the treetops the moon hangs fat and golden, smudging silver along the rim of the royal clearing. Honeysuckle rides the late-summer breeze, thick enough to taste, and the bonfire sends a roar of sparks up to meet the stars. Laughter rolls around the circle of benches, louder than the crack of pine knots splitting inside the flames.

Nicholas—my big brother, the king’s Beta and tonight’s groom—throws his head back and bellows at one of Anthony’s terrible stories. The firelight catches the edge of his smile and I cannot help answering it. Home wouldn’t be home without Nick’s laughter.

I have missed this din, this firelit chaos. Four years ago, Cole rode in with Alpha Lucas on a diplomatic visit, our eyes met, the bond snapped into place—and I left for Blood Moon in the same car that carried the delegation home. Since then, Cole’s work as Beta and the Shadow Pack border skirmishes have kept us pinned to our territory. I brought Zach to meet my parents once after his birth. Once. That ache sits under my ribs like an old bruise. Tonight, almost heals it.

Cole eases onto the bench behind me, long legs bracketing mine,  his scent of Tobacco and eucalyptus wrapping around my shoulders. When his arms settle across my waist the noise of the party blurs, leaving the steady drum of his heart against my back.

“You have gone quiet on me again, my love.” His voice is velvet, low enough that only I can hear. A pleasant shiver sparks along my spine.

“I am soaking it in,” I whisper. “The people, the heat, the terrible jokes.” I tip my head until our cheeks touch. “You, getting along with my family.”

He huffs a soft laugh against my temple, this man has been expertly navigating my father’s jibes, and my brothers’ subtle challenges all day. It was only when they saw him playing with Zach did they both calm down slightly. Cole Larkin, the fiercest fighter in Blood Moon, turns to molten sugar whenever our boy toddles into view. He will melt just the same for the pup now no bigger than a poppy seed in my womb.

My palm drifts over my flat stomach and wonder blooms like dawn. Helena confirmed it at sunrise, her voice ringing with certainty.

‘He will be overjoyed, Helena hums. ‘This one is a daughter.’

My throat tightens. I have not told Cole yet. No wolf should miss the scent of his mate’s pregnancy, but the pup must be only days along, her heartbeat still shy. I want the moment to be perfect.

The bonfire flares, sending a sheet of sparks into the dark. For a breath the clearing hushes, and in that hush I feel it—eyes. Cold. Measuring. I lift my gaze to the wall of trees. Between two trunks a silhouette lingers, cloak shifting like liquid shadow.

Helena growls. The hairs on my arms rise.

Cole’s hands tighten. “What is it?”

“Nothing.” I force a smile that fools no one. “Zach is with Mother. I promised one bedtime story, and you know how Grandmother’s stories turn into three.”

He pushes to his feet at once. Protective. Certain. “Early night then.”

We make our farewells. Nicholas clasps Cole’s wrist, Kayla hugs me, her little bump pressing against my flat one. Four-year-old Aiden darts around our knees with a wooden sword, already defending his new baby sister on the way.

Beyond the fire’s glow the forest feels different. The crickets have fallen silent. The breeze has died. Sap-scent and moss should comfort me, but unease crawls under my skin.

He senses it. Cole steps ahead of me, shoulders squared, every inch the warrior.

Something moves.

“Do not be afraid, my children,” a voice intones—deep as mountain stone, smooth as river water.

The figure from the trees glides forward. Moonlight catches her face, and the night seems to bend away from her. Skin like alabaster veiled in starlight, lips pale, almost blue, and eyes—blank, milky, staring straight through flesh and bone to whatever lies beneath.

An Oracle.

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 268

Zahra's POVTwo of the others are supernatural universities. One is a human collage. I don’t even have to think twice. The supernatural ones are far more likely to understand if I have any issues at the academy. One of them- Crescent Vale offers a slight variation of my preferred PPE option, its more detailed and will definitely be more relevant in the futureI flip open my laptop and accept my place for PPPEB — Pack Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Business. It’s the most intense course on the list, but also the most comprehensive. I even add on Supernatural History as an elective. Probably overkill. But after everything Angelica told me... it’s probably smart. With that handled, I toss some study materials onto my shopping list for tomorrow and hop into the shower.Once I’m clean and d

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 267

Zahra's POVSaying goodbye to everyone was way more emotional than I’d expected. I hadn’t imagined it would hit me this hard. Nicholas and Kayla have been amazing; warm, funny, a little overbearing in that affectionate parent way. Reconnecting with my family felt surprisingly... easy. Comforting. Like breathing cleaner air, having a proper family for two months, just made me realise what I’ve been missing for 14 years, and I’m going to miss them more than I care to admit. But the hardest goodbye, obviously, was Tobias. I wanted to throw my arms around him, bury my face in his chest, and just not let go. But with Alice hovering nearby like a suspicious hawk in lip gloss, I played it safe. A quick cheek kiss. A polite little hug. The same one I gave everyone else.Goddess, it nearly killed me.The drive back to Blood Moon felt ten times longer than the ride to the castle had been two months ago. It probably wasn’t. But back then, I’d had Tobias beside me, his ridiculously warm presence

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 266

Zahra's POVChloe’s energy is so genuine it pulls me out of my own head. Brunch picks up from there — full of low chatter and mismatched moods. Some people look like they’re regretting every drink from last night. Others, like Lottie and Alice, are already animated, buzzing about who wore what, whose hair held up, and who definitely did not pull off feathers. Chloe joins in periodically but it’s clear her heads banging. I nod along, half-listening, half-navigating the laser beam of Tobias’s intermittent stares.“Zahra, are you all packed? Do you need help with anything?” Alison leans around Jasper to speak to me, her voice warm and no-nonsense.I sigh. “Yes. I’m all packed. And ready.”She gives me one of those knowing smiles. The kind that says I see you, even when you

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 265

Zahra's POVI groan as my phone starts blaring, dragging me out of a deep sleep. I’m beyond exhausted after last night — it was past 3 a.m. when I finally collapsed into bed.The ball was magical. I danced with a boy for the first time... and then many, many boys after that. Honestly, I felt like I barely left the dance floor. When Tobias asked me to dance, in front of everyone — I thought I was going to spontaneously combust. I’ve never danced anywhere before, let alone at a royal ball. But he looked after me, kept me steady, and made me feel like I belonged there. Twirling around in his arms under all those chandeliers? It was like something straight out of a fairy tale. A perfect end to my fairy tale summer.I danced with Xander, Max, Lincoln, Brant, Oscar... even Aiden and Uncle Nicholas managed to pull me into a spin or two.

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 264

Lincoln's POVAs we exchange greetings, Alpha Brice Anderson and his Luna, Jenny, approach from behind. Brant lights up at the sight of them, hugging his parents before they start making the rounds, greeting Alpha Lucas and Luna Alison like old friends.Another couple comes up next — the man looks like a leaner version of Alpha Lucas, and the resemblance to Sebastian is obvious. That has to be his parents. His mother has flawless pale skin, pale blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes. Classic beauty, icy perfection. Our groups mingle, parents shaking hands with each other, proud smiles on all their faces. I drift a bit, following Jackson and Isaac over to their families. Their mothers are warm, proud, and surprisingly quick with sarcastic remarks. they introduce Sam and me to their Alphas, both seem to be solid men — not overly flashy, but clearly respected. both Jackson and Isaac's fathers and brothers greet me like one of their own, which I’ll admit, feels fucking weird... and good.

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 263

Lincoln's POVWith our preparations sorted, we head to the cars, laughing and joking along the way. Xander texted Tobias, arranging for us to join him and his unit for pre-ball drinks at the palace, allowing Max to find a replacement suit. Tonight, at least for now, everything feels right.Once we arrive at the castle, the butler leads us to the same glass-roofed lounge we were in before dinner the night we met Isaac and Jackson. The air is warm and smells of old whiskey, tobacco, and something distinctly male. As we step inside, the scent hits instantly. Bears. Alpha Daemon and his unit. They’re unmistakable. Towering, broad-shouldered, wearing sharp tailored suits. Their presence is immense — a quiet, crackling dominance that makes even the strongest wolves in the room stand up straighter.Tobias is already there, standing with Aiden, Jasp
