Max's POV

The Blood Moon pack operates differently from us. They’re a larger pack, so they can’t fit everything into a single pack house like we do. Instead, they have three large pack houses spread around town, each complete with communal dining areas, living quarters for unmated wolves, and accommodations for visiting packs. They also have warrior barracks, which house both mated and unmated warriors, as well as individual homes for those who prefer not to live in a pack house.

In the heart of town, there’s a centralized office block for administration. The leadership resides in a crescent-shaped street in the suburbs, with each leader having their own home. At the apex of the crescent stands the Alpha’s residence—an imposing structure of oak and glass that commands attention. While most large pack functions take place in the downtown hall, gatherings here are more intimate, meant for family rather than the broader pack community

Zahra's POVAs I finish my breakfast, a familiar mix of scents alerts me to the boys' arrival even before they knock. 'Wolf perks,'Zanthe comments dryly in my mind. I can’t help but smile a little; wolf senses do come in handy."Come in," I call out. They barge in, each proudly holding a bag. Zach, practically beaming, announces, "We heard what you said about missing school, so we brought your homework."Oscar steps up next, showing me a small gym bag, I recognize as one of Zach’s. "And we grabbed some clothes from your old room, so you have something to wear home."The thought of them rummaging through my underwear drawer makes my stomach drop. But before panic sets in, Xander steps forward with a shopping bag. Luna Alison quickly eases my fears, explaining, "Lacey ran into town to pick up a few essentials for you." She gives a meaningful glance at the boys to signal her foresight in sparing me the embarrassment. "I thought a tank top might be more comfortable, considering your back.

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 41

Zahra's POVDr. Jarvis's thorough examination is efficient but gentle. He concludes by unwrapping my back, prodding carefully. Surprisingly, the pain is a dull throb rather than the sharp agony I'd braced for. He nods approvingly as he applies fresh ointment and bandages. Once I'm upright again, he washes his hands and approaches with a serious yet hopeful look."Zahra, you've made remarkable progress. Your fractures have healed nicely, though they'll need a couple more days to fully strengthen. And your back is healing faster than expected; your wolf has certainly been diligent."I manage a light chuckle, "She's totally knocked out right now, must've been a busy night."Dr. Jarvis smiles. "Well, considering your recovery, I'm comfortable discharging you today. However," he adds quickly, seeing my eager expression, "you are not to return to school or training until next week."I make a face, and he raises his hands defensively. "It's only five days, Zahra. Taking this short break will

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 40

Max's POVThe air is warm, scented with night jasmine, and the comforting aroma of homemade lasagne floats around us. We have relocated and are seated around the outdoor dining table under a canopy of fairy lights. The lights cast a relaxed glow, softening the edges of our serious discussion.Alpha Andrew leans back in his chair, his eyes methodically scanning the faces around the table, illuminated by the soft flickering lights. He hesitates for a moment, then addresses the heavy silence. "Lucas, I'm sorry to broach such a grim subject over dinner, and Alison, forgive me for raising this amidst such a wonderful meal, but it's clear there’s something serious we need to address. Could you walk us through what’s going on?"Alpha Lucas takes another helping of lasagne, his movements slow, the weight of his next words seeming to anchor him more heavily against the backdrop of the tranquil evening. "It’s been an incredibly tough couple of days," he begins, his voice deep and resonant in th

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 38

Max's POVToday has unfolded like a roller coaster. The moment Sebastian walked into the kitchen this morning; I could sense a shift in him. Yesterday at school, I had picked up on his budding interest in Zahra, but the depth of his feelings came into full view today. I have never seen him take an interest in anyone like this before. His reaction to her hospitalization revealed just how much he cared, and I must admit, it left me stunned. Zahra's delicate frame makes it hard to imagine her being hurt, yet there she was, more bruise than not, when I delivered Sebastian's flowers to the hospital. The sight of her, so frail and battered, sparked an intense protective urge within me. I found myself grappling with these feelings, wondering about their implications, when Xander abruptly appeared to take the flowers. Our exchange was brief, but when I smiled at him, a zap of electricity surged through me, igniting a feeling of vitality I hadn't experienced before. It was disorienting, and I

  • Scarred by fate    Chapter 37

Xander's POVAfter the farce of a meeting wraps up, I find myself escaping to the small garden behind the pack office, instinctively heading for the serenity of the forest's edge Eliot and Oscar, apparently just as eager for respite, follow close behind. The warm spring air mixed with the earthy scent of the trees gradually diffuses the anger boiling inside me, soothing the residual tension from the conference room.I drop to the ground, sprawling on my back to stare up at the canopy overhead, and both Eliot and Oscar do the same, flanking me on either side.“Fuck” Eliot is always so eloquent."I can't believe we're still living in the dark ages," Oscar adds, his tone as bewildered as I feel.Words fail me; my own anger and frustration are too profound for simple expressions.Just then, a familiar scent drifts toward us on the breeze, prompting us to look up. Zach is ambling over, his approach pulling us momentarily from our thoughts.Zach appears, still pale, his face etched with fat
