Ana's POV

What are you doing here?” I ask, scrambling to my feet.

Zach grinned at me even as his eyes assessed the situation. He lingered momentarily on Len before looking back at me.

“Just stopping by to check in on you. Although, I was indeed not expecting to find you in such a… precarious position.” Zach said with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. “Len.” He said, finally acknowledging the man who had been on top of me a few seconds ago.

“Alpha Zach.” Len responds, his voice steady, emotionless.

“I trust you're feeling better now, Selene. You certainly look it.” Zach said, his eyes subtly moving down my body and up again.

“I'm perfectly fine. The only thing I have a problem with is you being here.” I said sharply, looking him dead in the eyes.

“Selene…”

“No. I made it clear last night. I reject you. I don't want you as my mate. And I certainly don't need an alliance with your pack.”

Ana, Selene called in my head but I shut her down.

Zach shared a glance with Len who remai

ANA'S POVMy heart was racing as I walked back into the palace. What the hell had gotten into me? I couldn't even blame myself. I was going through so many emotions at the same time. My eyes were tearing up as I finally stormed into my room, slamming the door behind me. I sat on the bed, trying to catch my breath. It wasn't working. I tried looking at myself in the mirror, but I knew I wouldn't be able to face myself either. I might have disgraced Zach, but the look on his face hurt me. No. I couldn't feel any kind of compassion towards him. Not after everything that he had done. Not after everything he put me through. So why the hell was I feeling bad?I was still lost in my thoughts when the door burst open. I knew who it was before I even turned. “What the hell was that for?” Len asked, with his brows furrowed. “None of your business,” I muttered, and he was beside me before I even blinked. “You can't just humiliate the man without a good reason. And as far as I remember, you

ANA'S POV Logan's hands were protectively on my thigh through the drive. He was continuously looking between me, and his hand on my thigh like there was something wrong. ‘Take it off, I don't allow that,’ Selene said immediately, and I was throwing Logan's hands like it was the most disgusting thing to exist. He chuckled immediately, like it felt right. Who were these men? And how the hell did Selene live with being so aggressive? And to think they were comfortable with it. It was obvious that Selene was actually a nice person. Maybe not physically, but at heart. She had planned a visit to an orphanage right? Only a nice person would do that. “We're here, Alpha,” the driver said, and Len was already out, opening the door for me. I looked up at him, trying not to allow the butterflies to take over at the sight of him. I got out, and he had his hand firmly on my waist as he led me into the building. I paused in my tracks as I looked at the orphanage. There was something about it th

ANA'S POV Lina was back before the matter could escalate more than that. My hands were still on Anna's shoulders. I held her closer than ever. I saw myself in her. There was no denying that. The pain in her eyes were more than recognizable. “Did something happen?” Lina asked looking between me, Anna and the other kids. “I would like to take Anna home,” I said, tipping my chin. Lina frowned. “But you had specifically said that you would never be adopting any child throughout your reign. I can clearly remember our conversation on that.”I almost screamed, and told her that Selene had made that decision. Not me. I took on a deep breath. “Well, I have changed my mind. I want to take her home. Can you get the documents ready?” I asked in the most nicest way that I could muster. She nodded immediately. “Please come with me.”I noticed that her mouth was fixed in a thin line. She definitely didn't look happy as she prepared the documents. I looked down at Anna, and she finally smiled as

ZACH'S POVI couldn't look away from her eyes as she turned to look at me. Her face first slipped from surprised to angry immediately. What the hell did I do to her?It was crazy that she had disgraced me like that. But I was willing to go through all that. All for her. I stood there, as I watched all my pride and ego being rubbed in the mud by this infuriating woman.I was Alpha Zach, yet she had left me there on the training grounds in my underwear.I was the fucking Alpha of one of the largest packs. And she, a mere female had asked me to strip. For some reason, her voice when she asked me to do so was commanding. Compelling even. And the way she swayed her hips even when she walked away in anger. Fuck, I was getting hard just thinking about it. There was something about her. Something that made me want her. Something that made me want to do anything for her. And it wasn't just about her being my mate. I knew that too well. She walked over to me, handing the child that she was hol

ANA'S POV I woke up with a start. My hands were wrapped around Anna. It was the most peaceful sleep I had in a while. But for some reason, my heart was racing when I woke up. It was almost like I was having little revelations. I was running in bushes for some reason. Turning back constantly like I was being chased. I pushed the thought out of my head, running my hands through Anna's body, trying to make sure I didn't hurt her in any way. Her sleeping in this room was another reason why Len was going to dislike her even more. He obviously had plans. We were already kissing last night when we heard a tiny knock on the door, and it was Anna, saying that she was scared of staying in the maid quarters alone. I instantly felt guilty for leaving her there alone. Len left in anger without a word. While Logan stayed back, cuddling the both of us until we both fell asleep. But now, even he wasn't in bed. I shook my head at the way they both woke up so early. It was probably Selene's thing as

LOGAN'S POVI wanted to lean up and kiss her again. But I didn't know if she was going to push me away again. She was going hot and cold, it was almost getting hard for me to keep up. And it was getting me hard as well. I couldn't forget that. It didn't matter if Len said she was changing, and he was suspecting that something was wrong. I loved this part of her. The one that let me carry her up instead of keeping things strictly to the bed. The one who didn't hesitate to tug on my hair and moan out loud instead of making stifled sounds. The one that let me stick around after sex. The one that blushed so hard like she was the most innocent thing in the world.“Are you done?” She finally asked, peeking at her feet like she was a little girl. She should have known that she didn't need bandages. She was going to heal in seconds. Anything to touch her. Anything to have time with her like this. Now, that was something to worry about. There were splinters of wood under her feet. How the he

ANA'S POVJust as Logan had advised, I was putting on a pretty white dress. My hair was set in a rough bun. It didn't matter that the dress was red. The Elders were going to permit some black shoes right?Of course they would. Selene was Alpha. I mean… I was Alpha. I had to confirm with Selene to make sure that the Elders really liked her in white, and she confirmed. See? Logan wasn't out there trying to make sure that I wasn't fooling them. He was genuinely helping like a gentleman. Anna was awake by the time I finished getting dressed. I sent her downstairs for breakfast. For every little thing she did, I kissed her forehead. She seemed to like it. I was showering her with all the attention I could. I was showering her with all the attention I couldn't get. I wanted to take her with me to the meeting, but that wouldn't be too pleasing. I ended up walking into the large hall alone for the first time in my life. For the first time, I was walking into a place in this huge palace, with

ANA'S POV “What do you think you are doing?” Elder Xavier asked immediately Zach left the room. “What do you mean?” I asked, narrowing my eyes at him. “This man is giving you an opportunity worth millions. Worth lifting the pack from whatever problem it is in. And you are letting him walk away like that?” He made a move to ask the guards to call him back. “You wouldn't dare,” I said, and he paused. “Are we going to stand by, until he goes and gets married to the daughter of the Alpha of another pack? Trust me, we won't recover from that.” I stood up. I wasn't willing to sit down here and allow this man to keep ranting on how I was supposed to be kissing Zach's feet and agreeing to marry him. “Elder Xavier,” I called in the calmest way I could. “The reason for the pack’s Elder Council is to agree with the decisions I take, and suggest a few. It's not necessary that I adhere to them. So please, no one should speak about him anymore. The meeting is over.” I walked out,

LOGAN'S POV The scream that I heard was unmistakably Anna's. I hurried to the backyard, where the other maids said they were earlier. I wasn't wrong. She was still screaming, while Selene stood there in shock, staring at a cat that laid on the floor… dead. Selene managed to compose herself, as she pulled Anna to herself, trying to comfort the little girl. “What happened?” I asked, and she stared at me, giving me a weird look. “The scones that the maid brought were fucking poisoned. Anna and I almost ate them. Anna would have been in that cat's position.” I heard her voice falter at the end. Even at a time like this, she wasn't even thinking about herself. Why the fuck will she want to eat something that a stranger had given her? What if something else had happened? What if they hadn't fed it to the cat first? “Why would you have something a stranger gave to you?” I asked, and she frowned, holding Anna closer. “You sent her to give them to me,” she said in an accusing tone, and I

ANA’S POVI followed Selene’s natural instincts chasing the shadow running further into an abandoned area of the pack house that I didn't know existed. The speed Selene had was all new to me, surprising me with each step. As I finally got to the wall at the very end of the west wing, I realized I had been led to a dead end somehow and no one was there. I was about to turn back when I heard a little movement at the other end of the hall. The shadow passed again, quicker this time. I quickly followed it, quietly this time, holding my breath. This time I was being led outside the pack house. A part of me screamed that this was a trap. An obvious one but at this moment I didn't care. I needed to find out the truth.I followed the shadow outside, walking past the gates. I continued following the shadow, making sure to keep my eyes on it even if there were countless other shadows from the trees in the woods. I looked up for some reason, recognizing the particular place that Selene had lai

ANA’S POVIf I couldn’t provide an heir for the pack just yet, but I could at least fulfil the other duties that I was supposed to do. Len had just informed me about the fact that I had barely gone through any of the pack business’ files. All the alliances and contracts that were supposed to be signed. It was almost as if all the time that I had been doing other things was a sort of break. Logan was nice enough to lead me right to the place where the said office was. If I wasn’t around him all the time, I would have guessed that he already knew that I wasn’t the actual Selene. I was scared to walk in myself when he was there. He held his hands in the air, and gave a sweet smile. “I’d leave you to it. I need to investigate the murdered assassins anyway.”I nodded, and watched him leave. I peeked into the room. It was almost the same thing as whatever they said Selene might like. The room was almost monochrome. Most of the things were in white. Only the cupboards and tables were spare

ANA'S POV I stood right in the middle of the garden, watering my plants that I myself had planted. In a pack like this, the garden was the only place that I seemed to find solitude. Except in the company of Logan and Len of course. I was so attached to them, that I didn't even allow the maids to water them for me. I made sure to water every part of it, and transplant the ones that needed it. I took my gloves off, and stood back to admire my work. “Selene!” I heard someone scream, making me turn back immediately. Who screamed my name like that?I turned to listen. Someone screamed my name again. Just then, a peculiar scent hit my nose. I wanted to ignore it so bad, but I knew that it wasn't from any of our pack members. It was definitely another wolf nearby. But there was a voice in the back of my head, forcing me to urge further. I followed the scent and before I knew it, I was heading out of the back gates. I looked back, wanting to head back to my garden. I wanted to go back to o

ANA'S POV “What do you mean ‘shift’?” I asked, looking at Logan with my eyes wide. He frowned, looking into my eyes, like he never wants to look away. “Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how to shift as well.” I might have done it before, but that was because I was under pressure. I didn't know how I was supposed to do it again. “Of course I remember,” I said, slapping his hand and letting out a fake laugh. “It’s something I’ve done for years.”He exhaled. “Well, if you’re having a hard time doing it, you can just calm down, breathe in and out, connect with your wolf, and let her take over.” Then he paused. “After you woke up, your wolf has been speaking to you, right?”“More than ever,” I said, remembering every single one of Selene’s taunting. Just as if she could feel it, she shushed me. “Now, keep quiet and let me take control.” I nodded, breathing in and out just as Logan had asked me to. I could feel my limbs curling into fists on their own accord, with

ANA'S POVA little ruffling on the bed managed to wake me up. Len was still sleeping beside me for the first time. We had forgotten to let the curtain down. I smiled to myself as I stretched out. I looked up just in time to see Logan trying to leave the room. “Where are you going?” I whispered, trying not to wake Len up. It was the first time I had seen Len without a frown on his forehead. He looked so peaceful, with his lashes casting a shadow on his face. I held myself back from running my hands through the contours of his lips. “I didn't want to wake you up. I was in the mood for a hunt.”I frowned. “You hunt?”“Yes. And you seem to have no interest in it. Ever.”It was almost as if Logan had already accepted the fact that I had forgotten a few things. I was glad that I didn't have to be explaining things to him. “Oh,” I said, standing up. How could Selene never have interest in something so exciting? “Well, I think I'm ready to learn now. Can I join in?”A huge smile appeared o

ANA’S POVI turned back, meeting the eyes of my mother that I could never erase from my memory. Ever. There was a small smile on her face that faded immediately she saw me. I felt my throat closing up again. Wasn’t there a thing where parents recognized their kids no matter how they tried to disguise? Why wasn’t my mom holding me yet? Why wasn’t she crying as she patted my hair? Why wasn’t she telling me that she wanted to apologize for all the times that she ignored me all through my childhood? That she was sorry for not listening to me when I complained about things?Instead, she was staring straight into my eyes, and I found myself raising my chin. She couldn’t see me sad or weak. It didn’t matter if she didn’t recognize me or not. I was still Anna somewhere in my head. “My daughter used to come here a lot,” she said, and I couldn’t even hold back my snort. Why was she suddenly trying to talk to Selene like she knew all about me? She frowned as she

ANA’S POVSomewhere at the back of my head, they could recognize me. They were looking like shells of themselves. Where were their plastic smiles? Why wasn’t it there? I found myself holding my breath. They barely glanced at me as they walked past. I was hurt. I felt myself exhale quickly. My legs were shaky. The world was spinning. I wished I had braced myself up for something like this. My mind was getting filled up with memories of me and them together. Playing at the park together, having breakfast together, going to the market together. Every single nice memory that I had with them. I shut my eyes, trying to stop it all from coming. I just couldn’t. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I flinched immediately, turning back.“Hey, calm down. It’s just me,” Len said, placing his hands on the small of my back. I felt the sweat dripping down my back. He frowned, as he looked me over. “Are you okay?”I nodded, with my legs and hands shaking. I didn’t know how I was supposed to stop pani

ANA’S POVI walked through the pack gates, and it was almost like I had stopped being Selene at the gates. It was almost like I was purely Ana.“Hold on, let me ask for directions,” Len said and I shook my head. “We don't need that. I know my way around.” I said, not realizing what that implied until after saying this but right now, I didn’t care if Len was walking behind me. I saw the frown on his face when I told him I knew my way around. I was honestly just avoiding anything that was going to make us waste time. All I wanted was to be out of that place. I was getting hit with nostalgia all over again. I recognized every single thing. The hallways that I once walked through. The swimming pool that was once mine. I tried blinking back the tears, but it was hard as fuck. I held my breath as I walked towards the council room where I knew Zach would be, remembering every twist and turn. I felt Selene twist inside me. Even she wasn’t comfortable. I honestly didn’t care if it was Zach’
