Chapter 17

OAKLEY

After saying goodbye to grams I followed my grandfather out the door to head towards the training grounds. It wasn’t too far away and so we were going to walk there. Every wolf we passed would greet my grandfather and I could see he was highly respected. I knew before he retired to train newly shifted wolves that he was a part of the elite warriors within the pack.

We arrived at the training grounds and i started to warm up while my grandfather went to talk to some of the other men that were there. we arrived at the time when the warriors trained and so there were men and women scattered here and there. Some were stretching, some sparing, a few standing around and talking while they waited for orders.

“Oakley, come here please.” My grandfather beckoned to where he was standing. I could see beta Jack and gamma Justin standing there with him along with another man I did not know. I got up from my stretching and walked over. I saw the beta and gamma do a slight bow towards me but not so that anyone else noticed. I knew then that they knew I was mated to the alpha.

“Oakley, this is the head trainer, Greg. He will do your evaluation.” He said, motioning to the man I didn’t know. He was tall, about 5 feet 11 inches. He had sandy hair that he kept in a buzz cut. He was muscular, being the head trainer I understood why. He looked like someone who would be in the military. Very fit.

“Hello sir.” I greeted him.

“None of that sir stuff. It’s Greg. It’s nice to meet you. I have heard quite a bit about you from your grandfather. Including how special your wolf is. I understand that you will need some training that is beyond what I can provide as far as your magic is concerned but for the physical fighting and such, that is where I excel.” He said to me. I nodded in acknowledgement. I wasn’t really sure what to say.

“I understand that your father is one of the head warriors in your previous pack so I am guessing that you have had some training?” He questioned.

“Yes. I trained with the top warriors. my dad always told me it was very important to stay on top of training, no matter what.” I responded.

“Excellent. Then this shouldn’t be to much of an issue for you. We will evaluate your skills with one of our top females in human form and then again in wolf form.” He said. I was looking forward to this. I loved training and it had been a minute since I was able to with everything that was going on. I knew that haven enjoyed it just as much as I did.

“Serenity, please come over here.” Greg called to one of the females out on the field. I could see her standing around with a few other females. when she reached were we were standing she looked me up and down and then turned to Greg.

“Yes sir?” She questioned him.

“Serenity, this is Oakley, Oakley this is serenity. Oakley is here to have her skills evaluated. I would like for you to spar with her in human form please.” He said to her. I noticed he did not correct her when she called him sir. It made me wonder about that but I wasn’t about to ask.

“Sure.” She said looking at me. She walked out onto the field and I followed her.

“No wolf help with this evaluation. We will go until someone taps out or I tell you to stop.” Greg said. I looked at serenity and saw an odd look in her eyes before it passed. I thought it was just inside my head. I got into a fighting stance and she did the same.

“Begin!” Greg shouted. I could see a lot of the wolves who were there for training had stopped to watch. I wasn’t worried about it though. I was used to training with many others and had learned well to block them out. The only thing I would focus on was my opponent. we were circling around, each of us waiting for the other to make a move. She seemed to have gotten tired of waiting and came at me with a punch that I very easily blocked. I continued to stay in a defensive pose while I waited for her to come at me again. She came at me again with another punch, which I also blocked but then kicked her leg up at me. I grabbed it and easily flipped her onto the ground. She growled in frustration and jumped back up.

“why was she chosen as your partner to be evaluated? She

is not that good as all. Let’s

just get this over with. I am so ready to get out and show off my skills.” Haven said in my mind. I snorted internally at her. She was always so full of herself. She had the right to be, she was incredibly strong. I waited for serenity to come at me again. She ran at me with what I could tell was full force. I jumped out of the way at the last second and jumped up, sending a kick in the middle of her back that sent her to the ground in a large thud. She laid there for a moment in shock before jumping back up. I considered letting her actually get a punch in but then decided against it. She came at me again this time with a punch but I could see that she was going to try and fake it and I anticipated her next move. i easily blocked her advance and then punched her in the jaw. This seemed to surprise her and so I took advantage of that and kicked her in the stomach, sending her to the ground. I jumped on her before she could get up and punched her a couple of more times in the jaw and face. I knew she would heal quickly, as werewolves did. She kept trying to block my punches and grab at me. I felt her scratch my arms a few times but I knew those healed instantly. I was kind of amused by it.

“Okay, that’s enough!” Greg shouted from the side of the field. I stopped and got up. I held my hand out to her to help her up but she just glared at me and jumped up on her own. I turned to walk back to the sides where my grandfather and Greg were standing and talking to each other when suddenly serenity jumped on my back, grabbing one had in my hair and pulling it back and the other around my throat, trying to choke me.

“You bitch. How dare you make me look bad! you will pay for that.” She sneered in my ear. I wasn’t afraid though and was more annoyed. I reached my arms up and grabbed her from around the back of her neck and flipped her over me onto her back. At that point the beta, Greg and my grandfather had run over.

“Serenity you were told to stop! You will run laps and then help out in this kitchen this evening for disobeying!” Greg said to her. She glared at me and then went off to run laps.

“You did really well. It seems like your human form is in excellent shape and you should be able to train with the top warriors. But let’s see how you do in wolf form.” Greg said to me after serenity was out of earshot.
