Chapter 47

OAKLEY

We walked into Marks office and I was assaulted with the scent of my mate and I felt myself melting onto one of his couches in front of the fireplace. I didn’t realize how tired I was.

“Are you okay?” He asked me. I wasn’t even sure why I was so tired.

“Yea. I am just tired for some reason.” I said. He chuckled.

“I think because you have been doing a lot these past few days compared to what you were doing before and it might all be catching up to you. Tomorrow is a Saturday though so we get a day off.” He sat down next to me and pulled me into his lap. I snuggled into him and his warmth. I knew I couldn’t stay there or I would fall asleep.

“We can’t just take a break. Not with a vampire camp on our borders and rogues trying to get in here.” I said, sitting up. Before he could say anything there was a knock at his door.

“Come in.” He said in his alpha voice. The door slowly creaked open to reveal Rebecca standing there.

“Come in and close the door. Have a seat.” He told her, gesturing to the couch across from us. I got up from his lap and walked over to his desk. I grabbed a box of tissues, a bottle of water from his mini fridge and the trash bin and brought them all over to her.

“Thank you.” She said in a small voice as she accepted them. I nodded and then returned to the warmth of my mate. We sat there in an awkward silence for a few moments, the only other sound was her occasional sniffles.

”what happened at lunch?” Mark asked her. Right to the point. No small talk or anything. She looked scared, like she was afraid to talk about it.

“You’re not going to get into trouble if you’re honest with us. We saw that you were crying and it looked like you were being bullied. That’s not allowed in this pack and if someone is harming you then we are here to help you, so please, let us help you.” I gently told her as I slid off my mates lap and went to sit next to her. She looked between the two of us for a second and Mark just nodded.

“You don’t seem as bad as serenity said.” She whispered. Mark and I exchanged looks, neither of us surprised.

“whatever serenity told you about my mate is a lie. She is the sweetest person you will ever meet and she is an amazing Luna. You can trust her.” Mark said. I could tell he was not very happy about that comment.

“I can see that.” She said. “I’m sorry about any judgments I may have made without knowing you. It was unfair to you and clearly serenity is the monster here.” She started to tear up again.

“What has she done?” I asked. Haven wanted to go after her already. I’m guessing she was talking to Rebecca’s wolf but she wasn’t going to tell me anything.

“I found my mate.” She said with a sad whisper.

“Well that’s fantastic! Why are you so sad about it?” I questioned. I began to get nervous about this. I was hoping he was not going to be like my previous mate and reject her or anything like that.

“Serenity says that I have to reject him if I want to be friends with her. She said that as a member of this pack it is my duty to do the right thing and follow her lead. She claims that she will be the Luna, no matter what it takes, and that I will be with the beta or gamma. She said that it wouldn’t matter either way, that I wouldn’t have a choice and I would have to reject him because of who he is, that the pack and my parents will not accept him anyway.” she said through her tears and sobs. I could feel myself getting angry and I could feel marks rage at the same time.

“Who is it, if I might ask?” I asked her. Something about the whole thing was weird. Why wouldn’t her parents or pack accept her mate? The mate bond was a gift from the goddess. I looked at mark to see he was waiting for her answer as well.

“I don’t know who he is. I just know that I caught his scent outside the packhouse this morning and it went to the pack hospital. But serenity stopped me before I could go inside and find out. She said it was for my own good, that he wasnt a part of our pack, or any pack, and that she was doing it to protect me.” She said. The rogue from this morning. Sam. He had a second chance and she was in our pack. I looked over at mark.

“We have to figure this out. This has to be fixed.” I said to him. He nodded and then his eyes glazed over. I knew he was mind linking someone. I turned to Rebecca and pulled her into a hug.

“The mate bond is sacred and no one is going to force you to reject your mate. Serenity is out of line and will be spoken to about this.“ I told her. She looked relieved at this. There was a knock at the door.

“Come in.” Mark said in his alpha voice. In walked a couple that I quickly found out to be Rebecca’s parents by the way she treated them.

“Mom, dad, why are you here?” She asked them, getting up quickly and hugging them both. Her mom looked at her concerned.

“The alpha asked us to come here. Why are you crying dear?” Her mom asked.

“i think we better all sit down and talk.” Mark said. Once everyone was settled he had Rebecca repeat everything she told us and then he told them about the rogue who came to the pack this morning and what happened to him.

“It wasn’t really my place to tell you his story but I felt that it was appropriate given the circumstances.” Mark said at the end of his explanation. Everyone just sat in silence for a few moments. Rebecca’s parents turned to her.

“We will absolutely accept your mate dear and don’t let anyone else ever make any decisions like that for you ever again. I knew that girl was bad news and i have always asked you to stay away from her.” Her mom told her. Her dad nodded in agreement.

“Yes ma’am.” She said sheepishly. She then turned to us. “I would like to meet my mate please.” She told us.

“Let me check with the hospital and see how he is doing.” Mark said. His eyes glazed over as he mind linked and we all just sat there waiting. It took a few moments for him to come back but once he was back he told us that it was okay to visit.

“We will all go but we don’t want to overwhelm him at once so let me have a conversation with him first.” Mark said.

“Yes alpha.” Rebecca said. With that we all got up and headed to the pack hospital.
