TWENTY

Carlos silently made his way to the farm. He avoided going in to greet Lucy and went straight to the barn where he removed his shirt and started stacking the hays. No matter what, he had to keep himself busy to avoid thinking too much. 

That's if one will call, working absentmindedly not thinking too much.

He was lost in thought that he didn't know when Lucy entered the barn, she smiled to him and walked closer "Tom" she called but he didn't answer, she reached out her hand to touch his sweaty shoulder and he jumped, his eyes on hers in a vigilant way that she felt herself flinch from his intense gaze "are you alright?"

Carlos breathed out in relief when he saw it was her "I'm sorry Lucy, I didn't hear you enter" he apologized.

"I know" she nodded, her eyes not leaving him. Carlos turned his back on her as he continued with what he was doing "what's the matter Tom? You shouldn't be here. I'm sure Ben was not expecting you to work today because he himself fell on the
