Chapter 23.

I stood in front of the stove as I cooked some eggs and bacon for Liam, I honestly don't know who eats eggs and bacon in the afternoon but you can never say with Liam. I was dressed in my long sleeve t-shirt dress and my hair was up in a bun. I got home about an hour ago after which Liam came in about 10 minutes later from school with Vicky. They were surprised to see me back at that time cause I was always working long hours at the office. Vicky was fired from her job cause the company went bankrupt, I tried to look for a spot for her at Wright's but she insisted she's okay with looking after Liam and taking care of the house which I didn't mind.

I turned the stove off and put the eggs on Liam's plate. I went to the fridge and grabbed the strawberry juice that is especially for Liam and poured it into his cup. I grabbed the food and walked over to the counter where Liam was playing a game on his iPad. I set the food in front of him as he looked up and put the phone away as he grinned up at me.

"Thank you, McKenny!" I smiled and placed a soft kiss on his head.

"You're welcome, Champ." I walked over to the couch and took a seat. I grabbed my phone and immediately went through all the messages I hadn't checked all day. I saw Ada's text and suddenly remembered that I have to call her. I dialed her number and waited for her to pick up the phone.

"Are you okay, Kenny? Luke told me what happened." She asked immediately she picked up the phone.

"I'm fine, Ada. Thank God I wasn't there when it happened. I'm pretty sure I would've broken down." I smiled sadly as I remembered the state my office was in.

"We'll get to the bottom of this, don't worry. I'm sure Dixon will take very good care of you. Speaking of which, how was your date?" I can imagine the silly look on her face right now.

"It wasn't a date, Ada. Just a couple grabbing breakfast together." I said and shrugged as I grabbed my laptop and opened it. I have to check if I turned in the presentation PowerPoint for the shareholder's meeting tomorrow.

"You're even referring to yourselves as couples. Wow, I never knew I'll grow up to see this day." She sighed dreamily. I rolled my eyes at her dramatics just as Liam came into the room. He sat down beside me and placed his head on my lap still playing his game.

"You're so dramatic, Ada. I can't wait for the day you'll finally have the balls to tell Luke you like him." I teased her.

"What are you talking about? I do not like him, he's my boss." She defended. A skype call from Dixon appeared on my laptop's screen. I answered the call and signaled for him to hold on immediately his face came on.

"Alright, alright. I hear you. I've got to go now. Talk to ya later." I said and hung up the phone. I turned to the screen of the laptop to see Dixon with papers all around him.

"You're still in the office? Why are you calling from the office then? You seem busy." I said softly passing my hand through Liam's head gently.

"Yeah, I have lots of work to finish before next week." He sighed tiredly as he rubbed his temples with his long fingers. The things that go through my head as I watched him.

"You seem tired."

"Yes, I am but it's no problem. How are you doing though? Luke called to tell me what happened, I have no problem with you working from here, I'll be more than happy to help." He smiled and I felt my heart swoon at his words.

"I'm good, was just taken aback by the incident that's all." He nodded before staring intently at me.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" I said placing my baby hair behind my ears.

"You are so beautiful." He said and I felt the blood that rushed into my cheeks. I turned my face to the side so he wouldn't see my face.

"When will I be able to resume?" I said to change the topic. He sat upright on his seat adjusting his tie.

"You're free to come in on Monday. You're much of a boss here like I am." He shrugged.

"Doesn't sound bad. You look tired, Dixon. I'm off to the hospital soon. Why not come meet me there?" I suggested.

"Why? You missed me, don't you?" He wiggled his eyebrows at me.

"Do you even know how that makes you look?" I asked. He chuckled and shook his head.

"Is Ian okay though?" He asked.

"He is. I just wanna go say hi that's all." I shrugged my shoulders.

"You know he's going to be alright, right? You have nothing to worry about, he loves you guys too much not to wake up soon." I smiled sadly and nodded.

"I just really miss him, you know? All of them." I sniffled back my tears. "It's funny how we never know the value of what we have until we lose it. I was always living in the future, worrying about the future that I never let myself live in that moment with them. Now, all I'm asking for is for my brother to wake up soon." I said head down looking at my younger brother who's sleeping peacefully on my lap.

"Meet me there." His voice came through again. I raised my head looking at him in confusion. He rolled his eyes. "Didn't you invite me to a date just now?"

"You sure suck at consoling people and It's not a date, it's an invitation to go see my sick brother." I giggled using the sleeves of my shirt to wipe the few tears that managed to escape.

"I had a great teacher. Are you sure? Cause it sounded more like a date." There was a knock on the door which made him lookup. He invited the person in and signaled for me to hold on. I overheard his conversation in the background with someone while I continued to run my hand through Liam's soft hair. He sighed in content in his sleep making me giggle. Dixon came back to the screen.

"I have to go now, Princess. But I'll meet you there, let's say around 6 this evening and we can go to dinner after. What do you think about that?" He said.

"I would love that," I said. He looked at me and gave me a heart swooning smile.

"I lo...love blue."

"What?"

"Wear something blue. I love blue." He cleared his throat and looked away from the screen. His ears are slightly red and he seems embarrassed.

"Blue is a good color you know. You don't need to be embarrassed by it." He laughed like a burst of full-blown laughter with his head thrown backward.

'You are a very innocent princess." He said. I rolled my eyes, I looked at the time on my laptop and noticed it a little past 4.

"Whatever, I'll see you there?" I asked.

"Definitely. Take care, Princess."

"Bye," I said and ended the call.

"You know you two are disgusting," I screamed and jumped in my seat waking Liam up. Luke chuckled as he took a seat in the loveseat placed beside the table.

"What the hell, Luke? Are you trying to kill me?" I said with my heart still beating faster. I resumed putting my hand through Liam's hair and patted him back to sleep.

"I have been standing over there for 20 minutes now, it's not my fault you didn't notice." He shrugged.

"You're so annoying," I said.

"Same goes for you, Princess," I grunted and carried Liam to his room while Luke had the

time of his life laughing like a dork.
