THIRD PERSON'S POV

“I knew I heard the door open.” Logan said as he made his way down the staircase smiling.

Her skin crawled at the fake smile. “How could he smile at me like that after being with another woman last night?” Lucy thought to herself.

His forehead creased. “Why do you look like that? Did something happen?” He asked with concern.

Lucy wanted to scream at his face and tell him to drop the pretence. But she closed her eyes and swallowed the words. "No, it's nothing like that. I had a minor accident, and I am just tired.” She replied instead.

“An accident?” He yelled in shock, his eyes widening. He walked closer and hugged her. She almost barfed at the contact, but she pushed down the bile rising in her throat. And rather took a step back. “You must really be tired. I know how tough it is for you to make money for the both of us. I am the man in this relationship, and I should be taking care of you, but I am such a disappointment.” He said sadly.

Normally in this kind of situation, Lucy would always reach out and comfort him. Telling him it's not his fault and he shouldn't blame himself. But today she couldn't. The words wouldn't pass her mouth. She felt numb. She couldn't fathom how the man standing in front of her was the same man who said all those things to Caramel.

Lucy scoffed in her mind. “And somehow he has managed to subtly ignore the fact that I just told him I had an accident and instead focused the discussion on himself. How did I never notice these things? Was I that blinded by my love?” She thought to herself.

When she didn't say a word, he looked up surprised. “Seems you are getting tired of me. But I promise I am working on something with the last money you gave me.

“You mean the ten million dollars I gave you last week?” Lucy managed to ask.

“Yes. This time the music is really going to do well, and I will get returns. Once that happens, I will start taking good care of you. I swear it.” He said with a serious face.

Lucy swallowed hard and forced the words to leave her mouth. “I know. I know you will do that. It's really not what you are thinking; I am not tired of taking care of us. I am just really tired; like I said, I had a minor accident. I rushed back last night because I missed you. But the accident spoilt the surprise. She said,

“I understand. I missed you a lot too. I kept counting the days until your return.” He smiled and tried to kiss her, but she turned at the last minute, and his lips landed on her cheek.

“I know you did.” She said the words she knew were blatant lies. “I am really tired right now; I just want to rest.” Her voice cracked as her emotions choked her.

“I understand. Come on, let's head to the room so you can get your beauty sleep.” He smiled at her. “Will you like me to join you in bed?” He asked as they walked up the stairs.

“If I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes, I would have been deceived by his acts. He has played me well all these years.” Lucy thought to herself sadly.

She peeled her clothes off and entered the bathroom. The clothes she wore were torn in different places, but yet Logan didn't notice, or maybe he just didn't care. She turned on the shower and stood under it. The cold water cascaded down her body. But even the water couldn't wash off the heaviness in her heart or the disgust she felt.

Tears rolled down her eyes, and she increased the pressure of the shower to drown her muffled cries. Even after last night she still hasn't been able to figure out what to do. Her emotions were everywhere, and she truly loved Logan. She has loved him for years, and now she doesn't know what to do without her love for him. The note she saw at the hospital suddenly came to her mind. “Revenge…” she muttered. “How do I do that? How do I get revenge?”

But eventually she put off the shower and left the bathroom in a robe. As she came out, Logan was sitting on the bed waiting for her. “Did the hospital give you something to apply on these little cuts and bruises?” He asked. Lucy turned around and looked at him without saying a word. “You did go to the hospital, right?”

Lucy turned around. “I did. They gave me something, but you don't have to worry about it.” She replied.

He stood up and walked over to her. “Why? Why shouldn't I worry about it? You are my wife. We have been married for three weeks now. Of course I should worry about you. I don't want you looking like a mess when we leave for our honeymoon or dying before then,” he said in a sweet but sickening tone. "We are still travelling for the honeymoon at the end of the month, right?" He asked sweetly, but Lucy had no reply for him.

“You know what? I think you should stay back at home today. You need to rest and allow your body to heal.” He said to her,

“More like allow my heart to heal. I wish it was just body pains that I was feeling. It will be much better than this heartache I am feeling.” Lucy said to herself.

She sighed and looked away from him. “I don't need to rest. I already got enough rest in the hospital. I forgot that I have an important client to meet today. Actually the case has been giving me a lot of concerns. “Would you like to hear the story?” She asked.

“Errm, yes. If that will make you feel better.” He smiled sweetly.

“I have a client who wants a divorce. She has been with her husband for almost as long as I have been with you, but he caught him cheating on her after everything they have been through together. She came to me because she wants a divorce, but she is hesitant too. She wants to kill him, but she also loves him too much. I don't know how to advise her or what to do. It's just bothering me.” Lucy replied. “What do you think I should do?” She asked and waited for his reply. “Let's hear what you have to say.” She thought to herself.

His face scrunched up in disgust. “Of course she should divorce the piece of shit! He doesn't deserve her. "You should advise her to go ahead with it," he replied.

“Excellent performance, Logan.” Lucy clapped for him in her head. “You could have anyone fooled.” She thought to herself. She had the strong urge to scream at his face and tell him she knew about what he was up to last night, but she swallowed it.

“That is what I will do," she replied.

She dressed up and left the house. Even though what she truly wanted was just to curl up in bed and cry her eyes out. But she knew she couldn't spend another minute with him in the same room.

She had told Clinton not to bother coming in today, but now she was leaving the house to work. But on second thought, she realised she wouldn't be able to get anything done at work.

She hailed a cab and gave directions to a hotel. She lowered the window and placed her face close to feel the air. “I am done crying. It's time for revenge. I will pay them back for what they did to me and make sure they do not lay their hands on any of my money or properties.” She silently made up her mind.

It's crazy outside.” Amelia immediately said as she pushed the door open and entered.Lucy's eyes were focused on the document, but her mind was a thousand miles away. The voice brought her back to the present, and she raised her head…“Amelia.” She smiled at the familiar face of her good friend. As always, she looked good in her minimal makeup and well-tailored bro

You have grown so big that you now consider me your equal.” She clenched her fist, fighting the urge to smack her hard across the face. “No…no, ma'am.” Caramel stuttered. Fear finally filled her core as she saw the blazing anger in Lucy's eyes. “I am sorry, ma’am.” She apologised. Her shoulders finally slouched, and she looked away.Lucy spun around and returned to her chair with strong strides. Her confidence moving like the air. She sat down and crossed her legs. “This has become long overdue. I have allowed you so much space that you have now forgotten where you belong.” Her eyes hardened. “As of this moment you are relieved of your secretarial duties and demoted to normal staff.” “Wait, what?!” Caramel yelled. Her eyes wide like saucepans."Would you rather I terminate your employment

THIRD PERSON'S POVLucy stared at her reflection in the office mirror. Inspecting the damage on her face and how well her makeup covered it up. Her fingers tightened around the edge of the sink in anger until her knuckles turned white. The bruise may have been covered by the make-up, but she still felt the sting of the slap, and the sound still echoed in her ears.“If we are to win this battle, then we have to make some changes first. We cannot have an enemy in your circle and expect to win a battle.” She muttered to herself. She breathed out heavily and walked out of the restroom with purposeful steps, her shoulders straightened and her mind clear. She entered her office, sat on her chair and pressed the intercom connecting her to her assistant.“Stella?” Lucy's voice crackled over the intercom. Firm and steady, unlike the way she felt inside.“Yes, ma’am. What can I help you with, ma’am?” Stella answered.“Tell Caramel to come to my office once she is back from her lunch break. And

THIRD PERSON'S POVLucy's stomach twisted. “Are you trying to turn this around and pin it on me? You are the one who just smacked me across the face like your fucking maid!” “But I already apologised to you. Are you going to make me apologise again?” He cocked his eyebrow. “Fine, I am sorry.” He said with no hint of remorse.“How did I not see this side of him all along? Was I so blinded, or is this a new thing?” Lucy thought to herself. She felt pity for herself.“And what is this about seeking your permission before I meet up with people?” She asked, her eyebrows raised.“I am doing all this to protect our marriage. Look at how you are looking at me, like I mean nothing. You are making me feel like I am worth nothing in this marriage. You don't respect me as the man in this marriage.” He hissed. “It's not your fault. I mean, you paid for everything when we were getting married. We even live in a house you bought. You give me allowance like a child when I should have access to your

THIRD PERSON'S POVLucy hailed a cab and got in. She laid her head on the headrest and closed her eyes. Her life was literally taking a weird turn and spiralling out of her control. She opened her eyes and lowered the window, watching the streetlights pouring their light into the dark road. Her mind filled with thoughts of what her life has become. Just a few days back she could have sworn that she had married the best man. But one night broke everything she thought she knew, and now a strange man shows up. Arrogant yet intriguing.“How does he know everything about me?” Lucy thought to herself. “Who is that interested in another’s life?” She questioned herself.None of what happened at that dinner made sense. Granted, she had saved his life in the past, but what he has already done was enough. He invested in her firm, got her deals she didn't even know about and even saved her life. Who is your friend?” Amelia asked, smiling. “This is Ethan,” she pointed to him. “Ethan, this is Amelia.” She introduced them.“Nice to meet you, Amelia.” Ethan offered his hand for a handshake, which Amelia took.“Nice to meet you too." She gave him her signature big smile. "I didn't know you had any friends aside from me.” She winked at Lucy suggestively.Lucy's eyes widened. “It's not what you are thinking.” She said slowly.Amelia chuckled. “I know. I was just joking. I will see you later.” She replied and strutted away in her high heels.“Does she know that you are married?” Ethan asked.“Yes, why?” Lucy replied and continued eating.“I find it off that she knows you are married and still made that sort of insinuation. It gives the impression that she sees you as someone who would do that kind of thing, and it's even weirder
