Tony Woods's POV

“Who's calling your phone at this hour?

And don't you dare lie to me because I'm going to find out,” I challenged Sean.

I didn't give him a chance to speak up first, knowing that he would lie.

“It ain't my phone.

Why are you probing me?

You should check yours.

Or don't you have yours?

Besides, I'm not the only one seated in this car.

I'm pretty sure the others have phones too. “ Sean responded in a placating tone.

I didn't utter a word.

I didn't retaliate for his rudeness towards me.

It was just a matter of time before he spat in my face.

I pretend not to hear him speak.

I looked away.

The moment I noticed he wasn't paying attention, I landed a punch on his chin. “That is what you get for lying to me.

I might be closer to my old age, but certainly not a vegetable. I can't be messed with.”

Since his hands were cuffed, I was confident that he wasn't going to retaliate with the heavy punch I threw at him.

Like a kid who lost a family, he sobbed.

I ignored his tears and forcefully took out the phone from his pocket.

The cuffs on his arms gave me an undisputed advantage over Sean.

He didn't make a move to drag the phone with me.

Behold, I checked the caller and saw a familiar name; Angela.

Instantly, the inside became cold. I was too perplexed to reveal what my eyes saw.

The phone dropped to the chair and Marcus picked it up.

After discovering the caller's name, he passed the phone to Officer Patrick. “That's Tony Woods's wife. She's calling Sean. What do you think we should do?”

“Can I have the phone, please?” Officer Patrick requested from Marcus and the latter obeyed.

He declined the call and asked us to step outside the car.

At first, I declined because I didn't see the connection with the matter arising.

However, a brief discussion with Marcus arrested my conviction.

Reluctantly, I descended from the car.

I widened my ear and spread my gaze to stay on red alert.

“So what now?

It's getting dark, and I need to go home.” I lamented.

I couldn't wait to see Sean spend the rest of his life behind bars for what he did to me.

Although, it wasn't entirely his fault. He allowed himself to be manipulated by Angela's evil plot.

If only he had spoken to me about it, I might have been his saving grace.

Now the situation has escalated, which makes it impossible for me to come through for him.

“Unlock your phone.

We'd return the missed calls from Angela.

Pretend that everything is fine. We need to hear what she's up to.

Are we clear?” Officer Patrick authorized Sean.

After listening to his suggestion, I now understood why he suggested that we all come down from the car.

Sean obliged.

He was sick and tired of trying to hide beneath the tree.

He had already accepted his fate, regardless of how everything turned out.

Right in front of me, Officer Patrick used Sean's facials to access the phone

He put a call across to Angela, and she answered immediately without a second guess.

She didn't even wait another second before initiating the conversation, “Where are you?

Why weren't you taking my calls, you bastard,”

“Sorry, I was fast asleep.

I had a busy day at the office today,” Sean lied.

He played a fantastic role by ensuring that Angela didn't suspect anything.

It was all thanks to Officer Patrick's brilliance.

He fixed his gaze on Sean to ensure he didn't utter or act suspiciously.

“How dare you sleep when I'm restless?

Get off the bed, you son of a bitch. I've got a job for you,” Angela accosted Sean.

From the way she sounded, I could tell that she had a mission lined up for Sean.

Sean didn't speak immediately as he waited for Officer Patrick's directives.

With a single nod, Officer Patrick permitted Sean to proceed.

“You sound pretty disturbed. What's the problem this time?” Scan asked in a soft tone.

He yawned to make Angela believe that he was indeed sleeping before she called.

“I just sent the details to your phone. My husband might return soon.

I wouldn't want him to hear me,” Angela whispered and ended the call.

Some moments later, Sean's phone beeped for a notification.

It was the moment we'd been waiting for: me.

Through Sean's assistance, Officer Patrick was able to access his phone again.

And this time, it leads us to Sean's messenger.

He sighted a text that made him speechless for a while.

“Now what's wrong?

Why are you two suddenly quiet?” I asked, but no one responded.

All they did was sulk and shake their heads vigorously like a lizard that fell from a five-story building.

“You need to come see this right now. I just can't say it.

It's too heavy for my mouth and eyes alone,” Officer Patrick said.

His tone conveyed fear in my heart.

I tried my best to stay calm to avoid having a panic attack.

“Wait a minute!

What kind of lady are you married to?

Did she jinx you into getting married to her?” Officer Patrick questioned me.

At that point, I knew the situation had become bigger than me.

Where I was, I rushed towards Sean and grabbed the phone away from Officer Patrick.

I wasn't alone; Marcus also joined me.

“What?” Marcus and I both screamed together as though it were planned.

The text Sean received from Angela was so brutal that Marcus and I couldn't speak up.

We just kept staring at each other like a dummy, waiting for the first person to speak.

“Did she jinx you?

Why did you marry her?” The question from Officer Patrick echoed in me once more.

I was unable to find the right answer to the question.

It seemed like the question would haunt me for the rest of my life.

When, lady, did you have your medication?' I yelled at Angela with the last strength inside of me. It wasn't my intention to yell at her in such a manner, but she pushed me to the wall, and I had no choice. “Oh? You are going to pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about? You try to play smart but unfortunately, you aren't,” Angela retaliated. I thought yelling at her was going to scare her a bit, but I was wrong. I didn't know where she got the strength from. I was lost, yet stunned by how Angela managed to pull up that defense mechanism. Coming from someone who has so many dirty secrets. If there's anyone who is entitled to be upset, clearly it should be me.Quietly, I sauntered to the wardrobe and selected my pajamas. Right in her presence, I wore it and grabbed my pillow. “Where the heck are you heading to r

I felt like smashing my phone to the ground, but I considered the important information I may lose should I attempt to do that. A thousand times she called, and not for once, did I respond. I dropped the phone on my lap and left the company's premises. I didn't know where the strength came from because a while ago, I had nothing left inside of me. I was already making plans to book an appointment with my doctor to have my body fully examined. A few miles away from my estate, my phone beeped. Unlike the previous time, it was a notification. I picked up the phone to check the notification only to see a text from Angela which says, “Your son is worried about you. Where have you been? He has been asking to see you,” Immediately, I pulled over. I didn't know when I started weeping like a toddler. It dawned on me that Kelly would feel most of the pain now. My hate towards the poor kid

Tony Woods POV“Sir, I hope you do know that you're the one delaying this investigation, right?I wouldn't want you to play the victim card when the table gets turned in your favor. For crying out loud, it's getting late, and we haven't done anything significant,” Marcus told me, even when I warned him not to speak. He spoke so fast, as though he were under immense pressure. It was obvious that he couldn't keep the thought to himself for too long. What he said about me was rather degrading. Such an act could be capable of bringing out the best in me. But what was I supposed to do anyway? Absolutely nothing!I didn't pick any offense in what Marcus said about me, and neither did I retaliate that he used a harsh tone on me even when he shouldn't be doing that. Irrespective of how everything will play out, I always expected him to be on my side at all times. Inside of me, I knew he was right. I was doing the same thing I was kicked against a couple of minutes ago. I had a glance

The silent treatment was beginning to mess with my head. They made it seem like I was insane when none of them responded to my question Marcus patted me on the shoulder, pleading for me to stay calm, but I ignored him. Instead, his plea fuelled my frustration. I didn't know when I screamed at him. “Don't you dare tell me to stay calm, Marcus? Have you lost your mind?Do I need to remind you what's at stake here?” Marcus sighed and looked away. He knew that he screwed up. Deep down, he wanted to apologize to me, but he wasn't certain if I was going to accept the apology. I let out a deep breath and forced myself to stay calm. I tried all I could not to speak further or act. I didn't trust my guts. I was scared that I might do something stupid to hurt someone, which would, of course
