His grip on her neck tightened as he rammed into her, the sound of her moans filling up his office. “Say it,” He whispered. “Say you belong to me,” The words tremble on her tongue, half plea, half surrender. “I… belong to you.” Her body trembled, caught between wanting to run and wanting to fall deeper into whatever this was. Chapter 1

Mafia king

_Serafina’s POV_

“What should we do about the body?” Raphael asked as I pulled the veil over my face, completely shielding what I looked like from everyone else.

I glanced at the girl who lay cold on the floor, my blank gaze burning into her.

“Hide it. And take care of her family, no one must know about the switch.” I said, my voice devoid of emotions.

It was quite unfortunate she was the bride. But I gave her a better ending than the fate she would have gotten if she had married that man.

Dimitri Volkov, a man known to be the devil himself.

I only had six months to do this. Infiltrate the empire of Dimitri Volkov, the Russian mafia king.

My handlers had asked me to seduce, gain his trust, and then kill him.

The killing part was going to be easy, but finding the information I wanted? That is what the six months were for.

But I have never failed a mission, and this was going to end like the others, his blood staining my blades.

I was still lost in thought when the door was slammed open and my head instantly snapped up.

At the door stood Alexander, the father of the bride.

My gaze went to where Raphael had been a moment ago to find him gone along with the body, and I turned back to Alexander.

I opened my mouth to speak but I instantly thought against it. He would know the way his daughter sounds and that would be an instant give away.

“What are you still doing here? The procession had started half an hour ago,” Alexander growled angrily, marching to where I stood.

“Answer me!” He yelled as his hand made contact with my face, turning my head to the side.

The impact brought back memories I had tried so hard to forget, but I pushed them back down, trying to control my anger.

There was absolutely no reason to hit me.

I clenched my hands tightly by the sides, my fingers digging into my palm as I tried to stop myself from gutting this man alive.

I wouldn’t want to show up to a wedding with my dress stained with blood.

He grabbed my arm tightly, pulling me towards him as he snarled in my face, “You better not think about running away, because if I catch you, I will kill you with my bare hands.”

His sour breath hits my face, and I turned away, feeling disgusted.

“I am sorry Father,” I say with my best timid voice.

Keeping quiet was more dangerous than not saying anything in this situation.

I just had to hope he doesn’t recognize the difference.

“You… why do you sound weird?” He asked as he peered at my face.

My fingers moved to the hilt of the dagger strapped to my thighs.

I didn’t want to have to kill him yet because he was the father of the bride, but if worst comes to worst, I didn’t have a choice but to end him.

This was a mission that had taken so long to prepare, jeopardizing it now was something I couldn’t do.

“Father, Dimitri is getting impatient. Force her down if she doesn’t want to come,” an extra voice came from the door and I instantly recognized it as Marco, Celestine’s older brother.

These two were known for the many crimes committed, but they weren’t my targets.

Raphael would take care of them after the wedding.

Silently, I walked past Alexander with my head down, stopping before Marco I said.

“I want to get married.”

Marco stares at me for a few minutes before turning around, and I follow after him silently.

“Glad to see you have finally come to your senses. You should be happy you are finally going to be of good use to this family,” Marco said coldly as we walked to the church.

We stopped in front of two large doors and I could hear the ongoing procession.

My grip on the flowers tightened, but I tried to calm my best.

This is it… the start of my mission.

The moment I step past this door; I should be ready to die at any moment.

Letting out a deep breath, I pushed the door open and stepped in.

The church fell silent the moment I walked in and hundreds of eyes turned to me.

I kept my head bowed as I made my way to the altar, their whispers finding its way to my ears.

“Poor girl.”

“So she is finally here.”

“She must have been trying to escape.”

I couldn’t react to their words because the poor helpless girl they were referring to was a distance away from here.

But that didn’t change the fact that I had to be careful, if my veil were to fall off right now before her family gets taken care off, they would instantly know that I had taken her place.

My heart beat steadily in my chest as I tried to control my breathing… until I saw him.

Dimitri Volkov.

He stood at the altar with a scowl on his face, and I used this opportunity to take him in.

He was tall, broad-shouldered, and dressed in a black suit. His dark hair was perfectly slicked back with a few rebellious strands falling across his face.

But it was his eyes that trapped me.

They were cold. Pale grey. The color of smoke after fire, the kind that lingers long after everything has burned.

His eyes reminded me of what he does, burning everything in his path.

Even through the veil, I could feel his gaze on my face.

He didn’t just look dangerous. He was danger. He would watch the world fall apart without lifting a finger.

Every movement he made was controlled. The way his fingers flexed at his sides, the way his gaze followed me as I took each step closer. It was like a predator tracking its prey.

I could almost hear the warning bells in the air: don’t look too long.

But I couldn’t stop.

No one warned me that the devil could look like this.

He wasn’t supposed to be beautiful.

He wasn’t supposed to make my pulse race like this.

And when our eyes finally met, my breath caught.

A slow smirk curved his mouth, like he already owned me.

And in that moment, I understood why everyone feared him.

Dimitri Volkov wasn’t just the kind of man you ran from. He was the kind that made you want to look back, even knowing he’d be the last thing you ever saw.
