LOGINRyker’s POV
Eight years. We spent eight long years away in the Highlands. We trained our bodies and our minds to take back the Silverfang Pack. I expected many things when I came home. I expected a big party. I expected the Beta to give me reports. I even expected some enemies to fight us.
I did not expect a girl in a leather jacket to kick open my doors and shoot me.
I felt the silver bullet hit my shoulder. It was a sharp, hot sting. It ruined my expensive suit. I did not fall. I did not even move. I just stood in the shadows and watched the smoke come out of her gun. My blood began to boil. My inner wolf was angry. He wanted to kill whoever was brave enough to attack a King in his own house.
"You should not have come back, Anna," Ronald said next to me.
The girl, Anna, made an angry sound. She looked like a wild animal. Her red lips were pulled back, showing her teeth. Her eyes were full of rage. I stepped into the light. I was ready to kill her with my bare hands. I wanted to see her look afraid before I ended her.
Then, something strange happened.
The air in the room became very heavy. It felt like a bolt of lightning hit my heart. It made my blood feel like fire. My wolf, who wanted to kill her a second ago, became quiet. Then he started to howl with happiness.
Mate.
The word was loud in my head. It felt like the Moon Goddess was screaming it. It shook my whole soul. I looked at Ronald. He looked shocked, too. His eyes were wide. He was smelling the air. She smelled like a storm in a forest. She smelled like everything I ever needed.
I looked at my shoulder. I touched the cut from the bullet. I put my fingers to my mouth and tasted my own blood. My golden eyes looked at hers. She was shaking now. Her gun hit the floor with a loud noise.
"You have a good aim, little wolf," I said. My voice was deep and scary, like a predator.
I was not angry anymore. I was interested. This beautiful girl had tried to kill an Alpha King. She was wearing leather that showed her curves. Her smell was making me go crazy.
The big doors opened again. Derrick, our acting Beta, ran in with six guards. They had their claws out.
"Alphas! I am so sorry!" Derrick shouted. He looked pale and worried, but I knew he was faking it. "This crazy girl escaped. She has no wolf, and she is trash. Guards, grab her! Take her away to be killed!"
The guards moved toward my mate. I started to growl deep in my chest. It was so loud the windows shook. I was going to change into a wolf and kill them for touching her. But Anna moved first.
She did not look at the guards. She did not look at me. She walked straight to Ronald. My brother is a King. Nobody tells him what to do. But he just stood there like a statue. She shoved her phone into his hand.
"Record this," she told him.
I blinked. I looked at Ronald. He is the Alpha King. But he just stared at her. He held the phone and actually hit the record button. He was doing what she said.
Anna turned around to face Derrick.
"You think I am trash, Derrick?" she asked. Her voice was cold.
"You are nothing!" Derrick said. He felt brave because the guards were there. "You are just a broken orphan. I only used you. You were good in bed, but Joanna is a real wolf—"
He did not finish. Anna’s fist moved fast. She punched him hard in the groin. He flew off his feet.
Derrick made a high noise and fell over. His face turned purple. But she was not done. She grabbed his hair and pulled his head up. She slapped him so hard it sounded like a gun. He spun to the ground.
"That was for the lies," she said.
She got on her knees over him and started beating him up. She punched his face and his stomach. She was full of rage. Derrick was the man running the pack for eight years, but now he was crying like a baby.
I watched her. I did not stop her. Ronald did not stop her either. The guards were shocked. They looked at us for orders, but I held up my hand. I wanted to see what she would do. She was amazing. She had no wolf, but she was beating a Beta in front of two Kings.
"And that," Anna said, giving him one last kick, "is for the rain."
She stood up and fixed her leather jacket. She looked at Derrick like he was gross. Then she walked back to Ronald. She grabbed her phone from his hand. She did not even say thank you. Ronald just stood there with his mouth open. He looked at her like she was a goddess.
"I am done with this pack," Anna said. Her eyes were like fire. "And I am done with all of you."
She turned around and walked out. Her boots made a clicking sound on the floor. I couldn't stop staring at her. I watched her hips move as she left. The smell of her strength stayed in the room. It made my wolf happy.
Derrick was still on the floor, holding himself and crying for help. I did not even look at him. He was pathetic. He had a diamond, and he traded it for a rock.
I looked at Ronald. My brother was still staring at the door. He looked very impressed. His Alpha energy was buzzing.
I leaned back against the desk and smiled. My shoulder hurt, but I felt great.
"Well, Ronald," I said. "It looks like coming home will be very fun."
My wolf agreed. We found her. She was strong, she was violent, and she was ours.
"I like powerful girls," I whispered.
Ronald's POVI watched in horror as Elena's body convulsed, white fur spreading across her skin as bones cracked and reformed. The transformation was violent and wrong."Get back!" I shouted, pulling Ryker away."What's happening to her?" Ryker demanded."The guardian curse," Anna said calmly. "The Council turned her into a beast designed to hunt Prime Wolf essence, which means she's going to hunt me."Elena's transformation completed, she was now a massive white dire-wolf twice the size of any normal wolf, her eyes were wild, silver and gold swirling together."Elena?" I said carefully. "Can you hear us?"The beast's head snapped toward me and growled, the sound shook the chamber."That's not my mother anymore," Anna said. "That's the guardian beast, it only has one purpose, capture me and seal me in the vault.""Then we fight it," Ryker said, his claws extending."No, you can't hurt it without hurting my mother." Anna stepped forward. "Mom if you're in there please fight it."The be
Anna's POVI stood in the Prime Realm feeling the vast emptiness around me, the Watcher was watching me with ancient eyes that held no sympathy."What happens now?" I asked, my voice echoed in the void."Now you return to your world as the Prime Guardian, you will hold the balance between Moon and Sun for eternity, you will never age, never die, never know peace." The Watcher gestured with its massive paw. "But the world will be safe.""Send me back then.""Not yet, there is one more thing you must know before you accept this burden fully." The Watcher's eyes glowed brighter. "A truth that has been hidden from you.""What truth?""The truth about your mother, about Elena Russell." The Watcher waved its paw and an image appeared in the void, it showed a younger version of my mother standing before the Council."What is this?" I asked."A memory from thirty years ago, watch and understand what you're truly inheriting."In the vision my mother was arguing with Council members, she looked
Anna's POVThe Watcher's light was blinding, I tried to stand my ground but the power coming from this being was overwhelming."What kind of trial?" I asked, my voice shaking."A trial of worth, you claim to be the Guardian, you claim to hold the Prime Wolf's power, but claiming is easy, proving is hard." The Watcher circled around me. "Many have tried, all have failed.""What happened to them?" Ronald asked, he and Ryker moved to stand beside me."They were consumed by the power they tried to control, they became monsters." The Watcher's eyes blazed. "The Prime Wolf's power is not meant for those who seek it, only for those who are chosen.""I didn't seek this power, it was forced on me," I said. "I did what I had to do.""Yes, desperation is often the crucible in which true Guardians are forged, but surviving the initial claiming is only the first step." The Watcher stopped in front of me. "Now you must prove you can control what you've claimed."Before I could respond the Watcher r
Ryker's POV"You're not going in there alone," I said, grabbing Anna's arm before she could touch the vault door again. "We're bonded now, which means we face this together.""You don't understand, if I don't go back in and hold Magnus he'll escape with enough power to destroy everything." Anna's mismatched eyes were filled with tears. "This is what I was born to do.""No," Ronald said firmly, standing on her other side. "You were born to live, to love, to be happy, not to be locked in a vault for the rest of your life.""My mother spent twenty-two years in there suffering alone because of me, I won't let Magnus use that power to hurt anyone else." Anna pulled away from us. "Please don't make this harder than it already is."I could feel her determination through the mate bond, she'd already made up her mind and nothing we said would change it."Then we're coming with you," I said."What? No, you can't.""The bond is complete, we're connected now, which means we share everything inclu
Anna's POVMy mother fell asleep from exhaustion after I healed her, we moved her to a soft area away from the vault door. Ronald and Ryker stood on either side of me."The mate bond is complete," Ronald said, looking at his hand where our blood had mixed. "I can feel everything you feel Anna.""Me too," Ryker added. "Your emotions, your power, even your thoughts if I focus hard enough.""Is that what it's supposed to feel like?" I asked, the connection was overwhelming, I could feel their love for me like a warm blanket wrapped around my soul."I don't know but I don't want it to stop," Ronald said, pulling me close. The three of us stood there holding each other, the mate bond was pulsing between us growing stronger with each heartbeat. I felt safe for the first time since this nightmare began."We should leave," Ryker said. "Get your mother somewhere safe, deal with the aftermath of everything that happened.""Not yet," I said, looking up at them both. "The bond is complete but not
Anna's POVThe Phase Two serum burned through my veins like liquid fire, I felt my mind trying to shut down, trying to accept Magnus's control. But something was fighting back. The Moon Wolf and Sun Wolf inside me were pushing against the serum, their ancient power was stronger than any drug."Why isn't it working?" Magnus said, stepping back. "She should be under my control by now.""The wolves are protecting her," Joanna said, still holding my arms. "The serum can't override deity-level power."I opened my mismatched eyes and looked at Magnus, one silver eye and one gold eye both glowing with rage."You made a mistake," I said, my voice echoed with the wolves' power. "You gave me exactly what I needed to resist you."I pulled away from Joanna easily, she flew backwards and hit the wall. Magnus stumbled back toward the vault door."Guards!" he shouted. "Subdue her now!"Rogues flooded into the chamber but I raised my hand and silver-gold light exploded from my palm, the rogues were t
