Several hours later, Keegan wakes to the captain speaking over the intercom.

“Good evening, this is your captain speaking. Please fasten your seat belts and prepare for landing.”

Eagerly, Keegan opens her window shade to take in the scenery before landing. There is a beautiful body of water and lots of greenery surrounding Shannon airport- just outside of Limerick. That wasn’t something she was accustomed to flying out of Atlanta, GA. She relaxes into her seat rubbing the sleep from her eyes and stretching as the plane comes to a swift landing. She glanced at the note card once more then places it back in her bag.

Grabbing her carry-on from the above baggage compartment, Keegan makes her way down the ramp, through the airport, and out the front doors. Next she locates a taxi and gives the driver the address from the note card. He informs her that it would be about an hour drive from the airport and off they went.

As they neared County Tipperary, Keegan is completely awestruck by the medieval and Celtic ruins and what appeared to have once been a grand castle?

This is so different from the states. She muses.

Turning down a tiny gravel road, a large forest comes into view with some sort of cottage nestled just in front of it. A little too large to be a cottage, but just as cozy, that must be the inn! Keegan concludes to herself.

A few moments later, Keegan finds herself at the doorstep of the inn right in the middle of the beautiful Irish countryside. The sign above the door reads:

Murphy Lodge

Huh. She thinks to herself with a furrowed brow noticing the it was named after her family – well what she assumes is her family name.

She has always dreamed of visiting another country, Ireland interestingly enough, but could never fully imagine the sights, sounds, or smells that she is taking in first hand.

As she walks in the front door of the inn, she is greeted by a handsome young man by the name of Kenneth. With an outstretched hand, he welcomes her and introduces himself.

“Hello there, I’m Kenneth, the caretaker here at Murphy Lodge; you can call me Ken.” He said in the most magnificent accent she’s ever heard.

He looks so familiar. Keegan muses.

Unable to find her tongue and captivated by his gentle-cool touch, strong voice, and light brown eyes Keegan mumbles “I uh – huh – I’m”

“Keegan Murphy!” He finishes for her. “I’ve been expecting you.”

“You have? But how?” Keegan blurts out astonished.

“Well, for starters you look exactly like your very distant, yet very well known ancestor who opened this inn on the castle grounds centuries ago.” He shares then pulls his hand from hers - that she embarrassingly didn’t realize she was still holding – then motions to a portrait on the wall.

Below the portrait read a name:

Keegan Murphy

“We have the same name? And did you say castle?!” She asks curious yet almost frantically.

“Indeed you do. And my family has been watching over this estate - that includes your family’s castle for hundreds of years. I will share more with you after you settle in, but for now I will leave you with this. There has been a prophecy foretelling your arrival just as long as we’ve been watching over your estate.” He says with a mischievous smile.

“Prophecy? Castle? Have I just stepped into an episode of the Twilight Zone?” She asks.

“Enough questions for now. You must be famished. Let’s get you to your room to settle in and then we can meet in the dining hall. Laura will be delighted to share her cooking with a new face.” He says warmly – almost affectionately.

Ken leads her down the hall to the right of the front desk. This place looks even bigger from the inside. Keegan thinks to herself while mechanically following Ken down the hall. The walls are lined with whitewashed brick from about her waist down and a warm cherry wood above extending to the ceiling. Above are exposed beams and chandelier style light fixtures with soft warm bulbs.

At the end of the hall is a large wooden door with some sort of bird engraved on the top center.

Keegan furrows her brow. I wonder what kind of bird that is? She thinks to herself.

“You will be staying in the Phoenix suite while you’re here.” Ken offers kindly and opens the door.

Phoenix! That’s it! She feels silly not realizing it sooner.

Almost at a loss for words, she thanks him and reaches for the key he's holding out for her.

“It’s beautiful.” She almost whispers.

“It was your ancestor’s private suite. She designed it herself and my family has kept it preserved ever since -"

“Ever since what?” Keegan questions.

“That’s a tale for another time. For now, you should take some time to get settled in. I see you’ve brought a small bag, but you’ll find the closest and armoire to be stocked with a full wardrobe in your size. There’s a bathroom through there and the number to the front desk is on the nightstand next to the phone. I close up at dark, but my room is directly across from this one. Knock at any time if you need anything at all. Dinner will be served within the hour. I’ll come by and walk you.” He says with a smile.

“I honestly don’t even know what to say. Yesterday, I was wondering if this was some kind of prank and now I have a suite with a brand new wardrobe in Ireland. Please excuse me while I pinch myself to be sure this isn’t a dream.” Keegan laughs nervously.

"No dream my dear." He gently places a hand on her shoulder to offer a kind word, but a spark of electricity jolts them both instead and they jump. Silence befalls the two of them and they gaze awkwardly at one another.

“Woah, I’m so sorry. I’ve suddenly been zapping random objects and - I guess people now.” Keegan offers in an attempt to relieve the awkwardness.

“Oh I’m sure it’s nothing. I’ll be back to escort you to dinner soon!” Ken stated nervously and quickly exits the room.

Before she could take in the details of the room, Keegan walks over to the enormous king sized bed and flops onto her back. She needs a minute to wrap her mind around – well everything.

KEEGAN POV After sharing an intense kiss, Ken pulls away, positioning his lips on my neck. Rubbing my back, and gently kissing my neck, he asks, “are you ready?” “Mmhmm” I replied granting him permission. I feel his mouth open and fangs extend, lightly pricking my flesh; before I have the chance to prepare myself for what comes next, he sinks his fangs deep into my neck. There is a moment of sharp pain that quickly turns to pleasure; I feel my core heating with want as a fire burns throughout my body. I begin to feel a little light headed just as Ken pulls back, once again kissing my lips. I return his kiss hungrily, needing to be with him, to feel him deep inside of me. Sensing my arousal and being aroused himself, he lifts me with his hands under my thighs, positioning me over his erection. With one swift motion he enters me, bouncing me up and down as if I’m as light as a feather. I could really get used to this vampire side in the bedroom – well, shower in this case, I think t

  • See Her Rise   Whole Again - Chapter 14

A pinch of rosemary, some goldenrod, peppermint, patchouli, and olive oil, is all it requires. “Alright dear, time for you to lay back and remove your shirt. I’m going to be placing some sigils on your chest and stomach. You'll feel some warmth, but there shouldn’t be any pain.” Laura tells me. She does exactly as she said, also chanting under her breath. Relaxing I close my eyes as this rush of warmth overtakes my entire body. I feel heavy and like I’m flying at the same time. Tingles move up and down my arms, legs, chest, and back – it almost tickles. Similarly, to before flashes of memory play in a reel in my mind and I feel like I'm a puzzle being put together. A flood of emotions invades my being and I cannot tell one from the other individually, just that I feel every single one with equal intensity. Finally, there’s a flash of light nearby and I open my eyes to see where it’s coming from; the most magnificent Phoenix – glowing red and gold glides above me. My body lifts into

  • See Her Rise   Unbinding - Chapter 13

KEEGAN POV “Assuming time magic works the way I think it might, by sending myself back to sometime before the attack, I could stop Balfour in the past and prevent our present from ever happening,” I say matter-of-factly.“That’s one theory, but what if another reality is created and this one still exists then you get stuck – or worse – in the past?” Ken warns, always considering other possibilities. “Ugh, you're right. I’ve never actually sent myself through time, only items and only into the future. I truthfully have no idea what actions in the past could mean for our present, but I’m going to try to find out!” I exclaim. “Let’s head to the Hall of Records, surely there’s bound to be some books on time magic in there, plus my mother’s grimoire. Speaking of which, is there somewhere safe I can keep them at the lodge?”“I know the perfect spot. I’ll show you when we get back.” Ken replies. We quickly head back to the golf cart and make our way back to the Hall of Records; I make my

  • See Her Rise   Farewell - Chapter 12

KEEGAN POV “How are you doing? Would you like to take a break?” Ken asks wiping a tear from my cheek.“I’ll be alright, I need to know what happened so I can – fix this.” I say with determination. He continues “In the meantime, more of the banished attacked at the castle, trapping and spelling you and your mother inside her bedroom. Though you both had your powers, they weren't enough to break the barrier spell. The left wing was set ablaze with you and your mother trapped inside. It was a slow burn as most of the wing was made of stone, but eventually the wooden beams and tapestries caught alight. I believe that’s where your memory begins.”“Yes,” I sniff. “The fire had just reached the inside of the room, but the smoke had long reached the inside. Frantically, my mother and I used every bit of our powers combined to try to break the barrier spell, but it was no use. Whatever dark magic this was, was more powerful than the two of us. It wasn’t long before my mother started to cough

  • See Her Rise   The Realms - Chapter 11

KEN POV As I wait for Keegan’s return from the Hall of Records, I cannot help thinking about how grateful I am to have her back and that she remembers us. I always believed this day would come, but now that it’s here it’s more surreal than I have imagined. While I’d love nothing more than to spend our days wrapped in one another’s arms – making up for lost time – I must tell her the truth looming over our reality. If she doesn’t take up her destined mantle as Sorceress Queen, it could mean the end for all of us. Just as I release a sigh, Keegan appears at the top of the stone staircase. I quickly explain how to close the door and we climb back in the golf cart, heading towards the castle. Placing the vehicle in park, I walk over to her side, taking her hand as she too steps out. I lead her up the steps to the castle, through the great hall, round the back and up the steps to the castle turret. From here the lands behind the castle are easily seen. Before stepping towards the lookou

  • See Her Rise   Grimoire - Chapter 10

Exhausted from our earlier activities, Ken and I climb in bed. It feels so nice to be back in his arms where I belong. It doesn’t take long for me to drift off; as expected memories begin flash before me. I’m starting to get used to these experiences and take in my surroundings and wait to see what I will unlock this time. I see myself as a teen and my mother in the rose garden – training? With a large leather-bound booked in her hands, Keegan’s mother begins, “For today, I’d like you to focus on your portal abilities. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and focus on seeing yourself on the bench across the way.”“Mother, can’t I try something more challenging – say sending this rose to the breakfast table tomorrow morning?” Young Keegan protests. “Oh dear, I know you’re eager to work on your time manipulation abilities, but it’s best to fully master one at a time. You've nearly mastered transporting yourself when your emotions are heightened. You must also learn to do so at will. Onc

  • See Her Rise   Remembering - Chapter 9

KEEGAN POV As soon as our hands touch, I feel a surge of energy rush through me – bringing with it such deep and sincere emotions. This is the love of my life – the piece of my soul I’ve been searching for all of these years. A tear slips down my cheek and Ken gently wipes it away; leaning closer his cool lips slowly molding into mine. Suddenly there’s a burst of energy that surrounds us intensifying the moment tenfold. And then the memories begin – every single moment we’ve spent together all flooding back at once. Slowly breaking the kiss, I tell him tears flowing freely now, “I remember you! I remember us! Every moment we’ve spent together. Thank you for trusting me, thank you for waiting for me. I love you!” A look of surprise crosses his face, “If I’d known all it took for you to remember me was a kiss – I would have kissed you the second you walked through the door,” He chuckles lifting me up; I wrap my legs around his waist and lean in for another kiss. The feels of his soft-

  • See Her Rise   Fire - Chapter 8

KEEGAN POV Maybe he does know me, I laugh to myself. I spend the next few minutes finishing my sandwich then excuse myself to my room. I need some time alone to process everything Ken and Laura just shared with me. I don’t know if it’s because I went in there thinking that I was going to be the one sounding certifiable or what, but everything they said really makes sense. I’ve always been a believer in the supernatural to some degree, never could I have imagined that I myself am supernatural. And Ken – my long lost love. Now wonder I’ve never been able to have a relationship go beyond a few dates. I just assumed I’d die a virgin, not that I’d already died and apparently been reborn because of some Phoenix spirit. On top of that, he died too and came back with vampire abilities. I feel like I should be afraid or in disbelief, yet it feels more like puzzle pieces fitting together in perfect unison. I can’t help but wonder though – if I have these powers and ability to be reborn – why c

KEEGAN POV Splashing water on my face, I let out a sigh. There’s something strange happening to me, and I’ve got to figure out what. The zaps, flashing lights, dreams, swirling rooms, and landing ten feet away I’m a strangers arms – nothing about any of this is normal. He’ll, I thought inheriting an estate was going to be the strangest part of my 25th year. Clearly, I was wrong. Maybe I need to go home or at least talk to Aleeah. Speaking of which- Keegan pulls out her phone to check her email. Sure enough, a reply from Aleeah is there. It reads:Well hello, I was beginning to think you'd forgotten about me. Sucks about the cell service. Anywa
