~KAIROS’ POV~

The Council Room smelled like dust, old paper, and stone that had never known warmth.

My mother sat beside me, Elder Mara, composed as always. Back straight. Hands folded. Looking all perfect and untouchable.

But I could feel it. The tension.

It rolled off her in sharp, invisible waves. Anyone else might have missed it, but I didn’t.

“Bring him in,” I said.

The doors groaned open. Kael didn’t walk in but he was dragged.

Four guards, gripping him like he was something dangerous. Th

~ELARA’S POV~The stone walls of the cell where Kael was were damp. Jace had told me what happened at the Council. He hadn't told me the details, but he told me enough. Kael had been framed and my mother’s name had been dragged through the mud again. And Kairos... Kairos had admitted his secret to the Elders. The secret he had whispered to me in the dark was now a weapon the whole pack could use against him."I can only give you ten minutes," the guard at the cellar door where kaell was, whispered. He was one of Jace’s men, his eyes darting around the hallway. "If the Queen Mother finds out I let you in here...""She won't," I said, my voice cold. I didn't feel like the same anymore. I felt like something sharper and dangerous. When the heavy iron door opened up. The cell wasn't the pit but it was still a cage. Kael was sitting on a low wooden cot, his head placed in his hands. The silver chains were gone and now replaced by heavy iron ones, but his skin was still red and blistered wh

The silver chains around his wrists glowed a dull blue, reacting to the wolf blood in him. His face was bruised, his body worn from whatever fight he’d put up at the ruins. But when he looked at me, his eyes were like cold steel.“Kael of the Blackthorn line,” one of the Elders began, his voice thinner than usual, “you are accused of working with the High Temple to sabotage the Trial of the Moon. How do you plead?”Kael didn’t even look at him. His gaze went straight to my mother.A slow, bloody s

~GENEVIEVE’S POV~I had been pacing for so long my feet were starting to ache, but nooo… I couldn’t stop.Back and forth. Back and forth. The rugs beneath me were too soft, too expensive, like they were mocking me too. Like everything else in this room was.My chest felt very tight. My heart was beating too fast, like it was trying to force its way out of me.Malphas had failed.Elara was still alive. And Kairos…Kairos was out there, digging for the truth.“Think, Genevieve,” I muttered under my breath, dragging my fingers through my scattered hair. “If he finds the Priest… he finds you.”I couldn’t breathe in here.I slipped out into the hallway, my steps were quiet against the cold stone. I didn’t know what I was looking for, maybe air, a distraction or a miracle—And then I saw her.A laundry maid.A skinny, nervous girl with wandering eyes. The kind of girl people never really notice. She was sneaking out of the Alpha’s Mother’s private gallery with something tucked under her apr

~KAIROS’ POV~“Kairos… please.”Genevieve’s voice was soft, almost too soft. Her hand rested lightly on my arm like she was scared I might break.“You’re shaking,” she said. “You’ve been through too much today. Let me get you some tea. It’ll help with your hands.”I looked down at her.She looked calm. Gentle. Like she cared. Her face was soft, her eyes full of a fake sweetness that made my stomach turn.I didn’t have time for this. All I could see in my head was Kael… standing in the shadows, whispering to the High Priest like a snake in the dark.If he had anything to do with what happened to Elara, if he set her up just to play hero after,I swear, I would burn everything down to get to him.“Move,” I said.My voice came out cold. Hard.“But Kairos—”“I have something to finish, Genevieve. Stay in your room.”I walked past her without another word.I didn’t look back.If I had… I might have seen the way she smiled. The way her eyes narrowed into slits of pure, dark triumph. My guar

~KAIROS’ POV~The palace felt dead. Not quiet. Not peaceful. Just… empty. Like something inside it had already died.I walked through the long stone halls, my boots hitting the floor in slow, heavy steps. The sound echoed too loudly, like the walls were listening. Every servant I passed lowered their head so fast it almost looked painful. None of them dared to look at me.They were scared. They had seen me in the arena. They had heard me roar. They had watched me stand against the High Priest like I had nothing to lose. But I didn’t want fear.I wanted answers.I stopped a young Omega maid carrying a basket of laundry. The moment I stepped in front of her, she froze. The basket shook so badly I thought it would fall from her hands.“The night before the trial,” I said, keeping my voice low. Steady. Controlled. “Did you see anyone near the High Temple? Any visitors? Healers?”“N-no, Alpha,” she stuttered, her fingers tightening around the cloth. “The Temple was forbidden. No one would

~GENEVIEVE’S POV~I wanted to scream until my lungs bled out.I was here pacing in the hall of the North Wing, my breathing was rough and uneven, like I couldn’t even get enough air no matter how hard I tried to fucking breathe! And my beautiful blue silk gown, the one that was supposed to be my victory dress, was now damp with sweat and dust. When I looked down at the hem, I saw a smear of dirt from the arena, clinging like a reminder of everything that had gone wrong.Of my failure!"I am supposed to be wearing a crown right now!" I hissed with my already cracked voice. "I should be sitting at a banquet, listening to the Council call me Luna. But instead, I’m here…here hiding in a hallway like a common thief!"High Priest Malphas was standing by the window, his face was a color of a dead man's skin. He wasn't the arrogant and untouchable holy man anymore. He was now actually shaking. Every time a floorboard made a sound, he jumped like a scared rabbit."You said she would die!" I t
