Ash nearly screamed as the shot rang out, grateful for Jason's hand that quickly covered her mouth as he pulled her against him, holding her until her shock subsided. She could feel fear coming from them both now, strongly, as well as anger and confusion. They exchanged a glance, and Jason lowered himself down, shadowy tendrils curling out from his hand, near the bottom edge of the doorframe.

Another shot rang out as the tendrils crossed the threshold, but missed completely, and a deep sounding voice started shouting, "Stop, you fool! The whole point of the light is that we can see them to shoot them, not waste what's left of the whiteshot shooting blind!" Mikael smiled at that, and she felt a sense of relief knowing they were running out.
