It was 4’o’clock in the afternoon. Remi Puth finished baking the cake and cooking the meals two hours ago. So after decorating the whole place and taking her bath, she scrolled through i***a-gram while waiting for Lacy to bring Ian back from school. Today was Ian’s birthday, and she made his favorite cake, food, and even his favorite snacks. She could not wait to see Ian so happy and spend time with both her husband and son. Lacy usually brings Ian back by 2:10 but it has been two hours and she wondered what was keeping him. She even tried to call Lacy but his phone was unreachable. She sent several message to know if he was fine, but Lacy still didn’t reply back. So she thought it was best to scroll through i***a-gram while waiting for them. As she continued scrolling through i***a-gram, one post made her pause. Zooming in, her heart skipped a beat—it was Bernice Green, standing beside a man who had his arm wrapped possessively around her waist. The man’s face was blur. They both smiled radiantly at the camera, each holding a little boy between them who gave her a peck on the cheek, looking every bit like a happy family. The little boy’s face was also blur. But hold on…The ring on the man’s finger was the same one her husband was putting on. And the little boy was like her son. What was going on? Wasn’t this man her husband, Lacy—the same man she’d been waiting for to come home. And the little boy? Her son, Ian—the child Lacy was supposed to bring back from school? The caption on the post struck her like a slap: “Happy birthday my little cupcake and thanks for the gifts.” Had it been the people on the photos with Bernice was another people, Remi would have offered her best wishes, but she was sure it was Lacy and Ian. Could they have gone out with Bernice while she was here still waiting for them to come back? She tried to call Lacy again, but this time his number was busy and this could only mean one thing: they were truly with Bernice all this time. It was now 5:30 and the food she took time to make has gone cold exactly like her heart. Ian even picked Bernice instead of her, just like Lacy. Remi felt numb as she thought about it. They’ve let her down. She commented on the post: 'You shameless fox. How dare you parade with my husband and son as if they're your family? Take this post down before I make you regret it.” Over the years, Bernice have been posting photos of her, a man, and a little boy but she always blur their face with stickers so no one could know them, and Remi thought Bernice was already married and was trying to keep her family private and away from social media. But today, she realized that it had been Lacy and Ian all this while. They managed to fool her all this years, but not anymore… Remi took screenshots of the photo and posted it on her story for their mutual friends to see that it was even her husband that Bernice was having an affair with and claiming her son as her own. Remi wanted their mutual friends to see how awful and shameless Bernice was. Bernie immediately deleted the post. Remi sneered when she saw this. She got up from the couch in the parlor, went to the kitchen and instructed the chef, "Valerie, throw the food, snacks and cake away.” “But ma’am, they haven’t gotten spoiled yet.” Valerie said, frowning and wondering why Remi would do that. Remi was hardly at home, and today that she made this for Ian for his birthday, how could she throw it away? “I know. Just do as you’re being told.” Remi responded and walked away while Valerie nodded. The food lay untouched, the steam long gone, leaving only a lifeless chill—just like her marriage, tasteless and cold. Remi thought, ‘Why not just divorce Lacy? I can't be with him anymore’ After that, she headed upstairs to the bedroom. Her friends already saw the post on her story and chatted her. As she was replying to their chat, she heard hurried footsteps outside and the door sprang open. Lacy came in with a frown on his face. He violently grabbed her wrist and asked, "Why do you have to pick on Bernice now that she's getting better?" Lacy, her husband, felt like a whole stranger to her at that moment. But they had been living together for seven years. "Me, picking on her?" Remi laughed. "She deserves it. You promise me yesterday that we were going to spend time with Ian today as it was his birthday. But what did you do? You spend it with your mistress and…don’t get me angry Lacy. I even took my time to decorate and-“ Lacy’s face showed a trace of guilt. He yelled angrily, "Bernice my mistress? What’re you talking about? I know you’re angry and I understand, but don’t accuse me of cheating on you. Alright I forgot to tell you that I was not coming back. But you shouldn't have gone after Bernice like that.” "You forgot? No, Lacy-you chose. You chose her over me, and even over your son's real mother.”Remi yelled in anger. Lacy thought that Remi shouldn't fight back. She should keep quiet like she always did. "Mom, you're mean! You made Ms. Green cry. I hate you! You made her life worse. I hate you." Ian’s voice came from the door. He looked just like Lacy, and he was really good-looking. Remi’s pulse raced and her eyes became wide with shock as she turned to face Lacy. "Did you tell Ian to say that?" Lacy frowned. "Isn't Ian right? You're upset because we spent his birthday with Bernice since it was Ian’s wish. Because of you, Bernice ended up like this. Ian and I are just trying to make up for what you did wrong!" Five years ago, the Green’ Group was involved in a tax fraud scandal and went bankrupt overnight. Bernice’s parents couldn't handle the news and poisoned theirselves. Nathaniel Green, her brother, was hounded by debt collectors and jumped down a building while trying to escape from his debt collector which resulted in his death. Bernice had been having serious mental problems since then. At that time, the Web family was supporting Remi through the university with a scholarship because Lacy’s grandfather and Remi’s grandmother were friends and this made both families friends. Students at the university said it was Remi that told the debt collectors where Nathaniel was staying, which led to his tragic death. And because Remi wasn’t from a rich background, when she defended herself and told them she wasn’t the one, nobody believed her. Someone spiked Lacy's drink, which led to him sleeping with Remi and Lacy believed Remi was the one that spiked his drink. So, to Lacy, Remi was the cause of all the problems. Lacy couldn't look Bernice in the eye after sleeping with Remi, because her brother, Nathaniel, was his best friend. So in order not to make the Web family a laughing stock in Sky city, Theo Web, Lacy’s grandfather, convinced Lacy to marry Remi, and Lacy agreed with the condition that Theo had to pay off the Green family's debt and send Bernice abroad to the best mental health care to recover. Lacy grabbed Remi by the neck and pushed her onto the bed on their wedding night. He was angry and furious as he asked her why she had killed Nathaniel, drugged his drink, and slept with him. Lacy didn't believe Remi no matter how hard she tried to explain she was not the one who told the debt collectors about Nathaniel’s house address or spiked his drink. After marriage, Remi was hated by Lacy’s family except Theo who actually believed she was actually innocent of all the crimes she was accuse of. Vivian Web, Lacy’s mother, took Ian away from Remi when he turned one year. She took care of Ian and talked badly about Remi to him all the time. Ian eventually returned back to Remi by the time he was five years. The lies that had been planted in him from Vivian about Remi had grown, and he loathed her just like Lacy did. Remi did everything she could to be the best wife and mother, hoping that Lacy and Ian would accept her one day and appreciate her efforts. But now that Bernice was back, Lacy had been having an affair with Bernice behind her back and Bernice even won Ian over her. It had been seven years, and it was time for Remi to wake up from her delusion that she could ever win Lacy and Ian’s heart. She took a deep breath and picked up the divorce papers from her bedside table, preparing to give them to Lacy. Lacy’s phone rang that moment. He smacked Remi’s hand away and then picked up the phone. The next second, his face was as cold as ice. "What? Bernice tried to kill herself at home because of you! You're going to die too if something happens to her today.” When Ian heard that, he looked at Remi with hatred and shouted to his dad, "Dad, just get a divorce from Mom! After that, Ms. Green can be my new mom.” Lacy shot Remi a look of contempt and then left with Ian. Ian’s word kept playing in Remi’s ears. She couldn’t believe the same son she had complications just to give birth to, could ask his father to divorce to her.. JUST TO BE WITH HIS MISTRESS… Remi clutched the divorce papers, her knuckles white. lan's words echoed in her head like knives: "Ms. Green can be my new mom." A bitter laugh escaped her lips, sharp and broken. "Fine," she whispered to herself. "He can have his mistress. And lan... he can have his new mother. I'm done." It looks like she had to also give up custody of Ian too now.
Remi didn't care about the so-called superior schooling. She was willing to work very hard to make money and give Ian the best life she could. She only wanted him to be happy and healthy. Would he do big things or not? That didn't matter to her at all. Theo, Simon, and Lacy were all as cold-hearted as selfish as they could be. Remi was scared that Ian might become one of them. She made all the plans herself after she decided to take Ian with her. She made all the arrangements for the trip, including booking the flights, accommodations, and itinerary. But at the very last minute, she realized that she hadn't requested for Ian to take time off. She hastily sent a note to Ian’s homeroom teacher saying that he was leaving. But she had entirely forgotten that she had changed her number. The teacher thought the leave note was strange. The teacher then called Lacy to be sure. The teacher remarked in a pleasant but curious voice on the phone, "Mr. Web, I have a leave request for Ian. I'm
There was no such thing as giving without expecting anything in return. Vivian had been aware of Bernice’z calculated flattery for a long time. In the high-class world of the Web, every good word and smile was full of self-interest. She didn't say anything. Bernice was also quite nice and well-behaved compared to Remi. Lacy’s arrival changed Bernice’s flattery from a compliment to a weapon. Vivian didn't want to deal with the situation, so she ignored it and left her texts unread. Then she went outside to play cards with her buddies. Bernice had been waiting a long time for an answer. Even though she was bewildered, she made the smart choice not to press it any further. She stopped by the villa and left the food. As she was about to leave, she casually asked one of the staff, "Hey, did Aunt. Vivian go to the spa or something today? It's becoming late, and she still hasn't come back.”The servant didn't think twice and said, "Mrs. Web just left." Bernice was surprised and raised a
Remi didn't know why Lacy suddenly stopped. She thought he was a selfish father who just cared about his mistress and didn't care about his son. "Do you know what Ian said when he woke up?" she inquired with a smirk. Lacy looked up without saying anything. Remi’s voice was full of sarcasm. "He asked, 'Why didn't Dad come to see me in the hospital?'" Lacy knew she was mad, so he kept his voice calm. "No one wants to be in that situation. You can blame me for it, but Remi, violence isn't your thing. You hurt Bernice. I need to calm her down and explain things to her." Remi laughed in a mean way. How funny. What type of "explanation" are you talking about? She didn't bother to guess; it was a waste of time. "I've found more bruises on Ian again. I'm going to call the police and have them look into it. Bernice won't be able to get away with the abuse claim. You are a bad father, and you have no right to custody." Lacy remained there for a bit and then murmured softly, "I'm sorry f
Even with the door shut, the screams coming from the bathroom were enough to make your hair stand on end. Lacy tried to break down the door by ramming it, but it didn't work. With a frown, he told Ivan, "Go to the nurse's station and get tools to break this door down." Ivan quickly left to look for anything. Lacy hit the door. "Calm down, Remi!" Remi was holding Bernice by the back of her neck and pushing her head into the water without mercy. "Bernice Green, I've put up with you over and over again, but that doesn't mean I don't get angry. You should stop being so sneaky!”Bernice weakly fought back, trying to scream for aid, but every time she opened her mouth, she choked on water and gasped for air. There was a loud thumping noise coming from outside; they were trying to break down the door. Remi looked back. She pulled Bernice out and hurled her to the ground when she saw that the lock was going to break. Bernice was lying there with a pale face, coughing up water, and not
"Get it!" Ian put his hands on his hips and scowled at Bernice with all the strength he could conjure in his small body. "Pick it up right now, or I'll tell Daddy!" Bernice squeezed her fists firmly to keep from hitting him. She bent down and said, "Ian, food gets dirty when it's in the trash. Dirty food is not good for us. I don't want to eat it!" She squeezed Ian’s leg firmly when Ivan wasn't looking. Ian yelled in anguish and glared at her. "Keep causing problems, and you'll be sorry.”She hissed in a threatening way. She still felt Ian was the same innocent kid he had been six months before. Ian had become much smarter after living with Remi. He threw himself to the ground on purpose and started crying loudly and dramatically. People passing by couldn't help but notice his cute features and sad cries. "What's wrong, little one?" someone asked. Ian pointed to Bernice. "She hit me!" "How could you be so violent?" "Can't you just talk it out?" "That's right! It is against the
Lacy stared at Bernice with frigid eyes, and an unfathomable anger sprang in his chest. He still took the tissue and wiped her tears away, though, since he felt he had to. "It has nothing to do with your family." "Then what is it?" Lacy dodged the question more and more as she pushed for an answer. He rose up and looked down at her. "You're too emotional right now. The driver will take you home. Mason will take care of any problems you have with the trendy company.”“I won't go until you tell me what you want!" Lacy exhaled in anger and said, "Bernice, don't be like this." "Is it because of Remi? You've grown to care about her, haven't you?" "No." His refusal was strong and clear. She held on to him for dear life. "I'll be the best wife. I won't do anything you don't want me to. We can sleep in different beds if you don't want to sleep with me. Lacy, I need your help—real, open help. You might call me greedy or materialistic, but I couldn't go back to the days when debt collect
