Chapter 4

The man was none other than Sean, the famous richest man in Crosswind.

As soon as I'd developed the miracle drug, he'd sent someone to tell me he wanted to buy it. I had refused, but to my surprise, he showed up at the company.

I shook my head yet again. "The new drug hasn't undergone clinical trials yet, so I can't sell it to you."

Sean wanted to change my mind when Robert and Sophia pushed me aside.

Robert smiled warmly. "Mr. Clark, if you want the miracle drug, I'm your guy!"

Sophia chimed in, "Mr. Clark, you probably don't know this yet, but Mason's a fraud. His miracle drug is a total sham; his patent was generated by AI! I've already fired him from the company, and I'm going to make sure he's blacklisted across the entire industry!"

"Is that so?" Sean looked doubtful. His eyes darted back and forth between the three of us before he hesitantly asked, "Isn't he a descendant of a family of traditional medicine practitioners? I heard he was even recommended to join the National Medical Hall. Could there be some misunderstanding?"

"Misunderstanding?" Sophia sneered. "Mason sure knows how to put on an act. He even fooled me for seven years. If Robert hadn't developed the same drug, I would still be in the dark!"

I tried my best to fight off my lightheadedness and refuted, "That's not true! My patent's legitimate. Robert's the fraud!"

However, my voice was far too weak. It fell on deaf ears.

Sean had come strictly to get his hands on the drug. The second he heard that Robert had developed the exact same drug, he immediately showered him with praise, calling him "Dr. Miller" left and right.

After stringing Sean along long enough and securing plenty of benefits for himself, Robert finally took a bag of the miracle drug he had placed on the table and handed it to Sean.

"Mr. Clark, you can take it home and eat it with peace of mind. I guarantee it'll cure your ailment. My miracle drug is nothing like the garbage Mason brewed up; his drug's all show and no substance!"

After hearing that, Sean was so excited that he wanted to pop open a box and take a pill right then and there. I dragged myself over to stop him. "Mr. Clark, you can't just take medication blindly! Even if it's the right drug for your condition, you still need to undergo a thorough medical examination first!"

Robert shoved me to the ground. "Mason, why are you still lying at a time like this? You won't rest until you've delayed Mr. Clark's treatment and made his condition worse, will you? Doctors are supposed to have compassion, but you have nothing but a rotten heart!"

"That's right, Mason. If you stay at Sophon Pharmaceuticals, you'll be nothing but a bad apple ruining the whole barrel. Now, get the hell out of here!" Sophia grabbed a broom and chased me out, determined to sweep me out of the company.

Being struck with the broom was not only painful but also humiliating.

My vision went black. Gritting my teeth, I warned him one last time. "New drugs can't be taken recklessly, much less given to patients without going through clinical trials first. That's the protocol!"

"Mr. Clark, if you're going to trust Mason over me, then I won't sell you this drug!" Noticing Sean's hesitation, Robert reached out to snatch the box back.

Sean had gone to great lengths to get his hands on the drug, so there was no way he was letting it go. He shot me a vicious glare. "Mason Smith, you're simply not skilled enough as a doctor. Your drug's the one that needs to go through all the proper procedures. Dr. Miller's exceptionally gifted. Since he said it's safe to take, it must be safe to take!"

"That's right." Sophia poured a glass of water and handed it to Sean so he could take the drug.

I could only watch as Sean washed the medication down. "Robert has only been exposed to traditional medicine for half a year. He isn't even qualified to apply for a drug patent. He's a fraud!"

Sean's expression changed dramatically.

Robert jeered. "Anyone who develops a new drug can apply for a patent. Stop acting like a know-it-all when you don't know jack, Mason!"

Sophia didn't back him up this time. If anything, she was hesitant. "Rob, there's nothing wrong with your patent, right?"

"Of course, there's nothing wrong with it," Robert responded proudly. "Ms. Cooper, you personally accompanied me to collect the patent certificate. My patent is legitimate!

"Mr. Clark, how do you feel after taking the drug? Doesn't your heartbeat feel much stronger and steadier now?"

"I… I think so…" Sean clutched his chest and carefully felt his heartbeat for a moment before his face lit up with delight. "Dr. Miller, your drug's incredible! My heartbeat's strong, just like when I was younger!"

My heart sank when I heard that. I stepped forward to check Sean's pulse. "This reaction isn't a good sign, Mr. Clark."

Sophia slapped my hand aside, while Robert shoved me toward the front door. "Mason, you're incompetent, and all you do is spread nonsense. Hurry up and get out of here. Don't sully my company's name!"

Realizing I couldn't get through to Robert, I turned to look at Sophia with bloodshot eyes. "Sophia, someone's life is at stake here. I wouldn't make something like this up! Let me examine Mr. Clark and prescribe the right medication, or Robert is going to kill him!"

Initially, she was a little worried. However, her expression hardened when she heard my last sentence.

Sophia shoved me toward the door as well. "Mason Smith, you useless fool, you wasted seven years of my youth, and now you're attempting to drive a wedge between Rob and me? Get the hell out. I don't ever want to see your face again!"

I was roughly shoved out of Sophon Pharmaceuticals. The glass doors sealed shut right in front of my eyes.

However, the moment the doors closed, I saw Sean clutch his chest and collapse to the ground.
