She Destroyed the Wrong Files

"The nerve of this woman. She actually thinks she has a chance with Mr. Sinclair? Now that she's crossed Sophie Blackwood, she's really asking for trouble."

"She probably doesn't even know. Sophie may just be an intern, but her father is one of the company executives. Every cheap little tramp who tried seducing Mr. Sinclair before ended up leaving in tears."

The whispers spread nonstop through the office.

Sophie looked down at me from where she stood, her eyes overflowing with contempt.

The next second, she grabbed a fistful of my hair and yanked me violently off the ground.

A tearing pain shot through my scalp, my knees instantly buckling beneath me. I let out a muffled groan on instinct, only to be rewarded with another sharp slap across the face.

"You little sl*t, who are you trying to seduce with that pathetic whining?

"I'm warning you. Mr. Sinclair is out entertaining clients today. He's not even in the company, so you'd better stop entertaining those disgusting little fantasies of yours.

"Otherwise, if I don't ruin you today, I'll give up the Blackwood name!"

I swallowed the fury rising in my chest.

Just as I was about to explain myself, the phone that had fallen nearby suddenly rang.

I looked over and realized it was my supervisor, David Bartlem, calling.

I reached for it, but Sophie moved faster, snatching the phone away before I could touch it.

Right in front of the entire office, she switched the call to speaker.

"Charlotte, have you arrived yet?"

"Did you meet Dylan Sinclair?"

The moment she heard that name, Sophie exploded.

She screamed into the phone hysterically.

"You old b*stard, are you so desperate for money that you're sending your daughter to seduce Mr. Sinclair?

"And who the hell do you think you are, calling him by name? Trash like you from the bottom of society don't deserve to say his name!"

David froze from the sudden abuse and barely managed to start speaking before Sophie hung up without hesitation.

"Sophie, why are you even wasting words on her?

"Just look at that seductive face. She's probably some poor nobody who heard Mr. Sinclair was hiring an assistant and came here dreaming of marrying rich."

One of Sophie's little followers stood nearby with her hands on her hips, sizing me up with naked disdain.

I endured the burning pain in my scalp and forced myself to explain through trembling breaths.

"I'm not. I didn't come here to apply as an assistant."

However, before I could finish, a cup of scalding water was suddenly thrown straight into my face.

The instant the liquid hit my skin, a searing pain exploded across my body like countless needles stabbing into me. I collapsed onto the floor screaming, writhing in agony as blisters rapidly swelled across every patch of exposed skin.

Yet seeing this, the crowd around us did not step forward to stop it.

Instead, they laughed even harder.

"Sophie, why'd you waste water on her? Girls like this probably love it."

"Who knows, maybe she was planning to show up soaking wet in front of Mr. Sinclair and pretend to be pitiful."
