Saying to her

We lie there in awkward silence for a few moments until I finally whisper, “Jay?”

“Yeah.” His voice is a strangled rasp.

“Will you hold me?”

He makes a tortured sound. “Fuck, Layla, I don't think that's a good—"

His words trail off whenever I scoot closer to him. I curl close to him and breathe deeply, allowing his comforting scent to wash over me. He's so big and warm, and I feel safe in his presence.

“Motherfuck,” he grumbles under his breath before he finally opens his arms and allows me to settle in.

I happily snuggle into him, and oh my god, I feel so at home here. Everything about Jay is big and makes me feel safe—like nothing could ever hurt me again.

He strokes his hands through my hair, petting me like a kitten, as he asks gruffly, “Do you want to talk about it?”

I let out a stuttering breath. “There's nothing to talk about. I've been afraid of storms for as long as I can remember.” I snuggle closer to him and press a hand against his chest.
