Chapter 3

Autor: Sweetie Moore
I ignored Stacy and Zack's conversation and walked out of the company without looking back.

Once I was outside, I pulled out my phone. I found Belle Sidman's contact and messaged her.

"Ms. Sidman, I've finished my resignation paperwork. I can start right away."

A moment later, Belle replied.

"I'll come pick you up right now!"

Belle was the Sidman family's heiress and Stacy's biggest rival.

Stacy had once fired two employees simultaneously because Human Resources had mistakenly hired some people named Sidman. She wouldn't let anyone cross her.

…

With Belle, the CEO, handling things, I finished my onboarding at Sidman Group in no time.

Around lunchtime, Belle and I sat down to eat.

She clicked her tongue in amazement, her normally cool expression full of curiosity.

"Jacob, I can't believe you put up with Stacy for that long. It's unbelievable! You once flew all the way to Heston to buy her cinnamon rolls, and she threw them on the ground in front of everyone.

"That's when I knew she didn't deserve you!"

I stopped with my fork halfway to my mouth.

Belle was right.

That day, Stacy was having afternoon tea with some socialites, and I heard her thoughts. She wanted to try the famous cinnamon rolls from Heston.

To make her wish come true, I caught an early flight to Heston and flew straight back.

But the cinnamon rolls I had gone through all that trouble to bring her were thrown onto the floor because they had gotten a little cold.

What no one knew was that Stacy's thoughts were practically screaming with excitement, eager to show off.

"Jake really does love me! Oh my, the cinnamon rolls he brought back smell amazing! None of you will ever find a husband this amazing. I bet you're all jealous!"

Back then, I didn't understand why her words never matched her thoughts. I did everything I could to make her happy.

Then, I finally understood—she had only enjoyed the attention it brought her.

I said nothing in response to Belle's exaggerated reaction. I just smiled and took a bite of pasta.

Before I knew it, evening had come.

I thanked Belle and headed home to pack my things. I planned to move into the company dorm.

But when I opened the front door, I saw a pair of limited-edition sneakers in the entryway. Stacy had bought them especially for Zack.

I walked farther inside.

My bedroom was a complete mess. The closet doors were wide open, and clothes were scattered everywhere.

Stacy stood with her back to me. She was helping Zack put on a suit jacket.

If I had seen this before, jealousy would have driven me crazy.

But at the moment, I only found it absurd. I felt nothing.

Zack turned to face me, his tone clearly meant to provoke me.

"Ms. Levine, is my build really as good as you said? I don't think I look as good in this as Mr. Sawyer does."

Stacy answered without hesitation, "You've got a great figure. Wear this to the business dinner tonight."

She seemed to sense something and turned around, only to meet my eyes as I leaned casually against the doorframe.

She immediately let go of Zack's collar.

For once, she looked a little nervous as she explained, "Zack has a business dinner to attend tonight, so he's borrowing a couple of your clothes. You're not going to need them now that you've quit, anyway."

But inside, she was frantic. "Damn it, Zack! I told him I would buy him one, but he wouldn't listen. Now Jake is definitely going to get jealous again. I'll have to make it up to him later."

Stacy once told me that clothes were personal and had to be treated with care. She insisted that no one else was allowed to borrow them.

So all these years, I washed every piece of clothing thoroughly and folded them neatly.

But now, I couldn't even be bothered to argue with her.

I said flatly, "Fine. If he likes them, take them all."

With that, I walked into the bedroom and picked out a few changes of clothes. Then I went to the bathroom for my toiletries.

Stacy's eyes widened when she saw what I was doing, and she blurted out, "You're running away from home?"

She raised an eyebrow. Then she leaned against the doorframe just as I had and said icily, "Fine. Leave if you want. If you've got the nerve, don't ever come back."

I still said nothing. I merely grabbed my suitcase and walked out the front door.

Belle didn't seem bothered. "Fine. I'll just treat her like a joke."As if to prove her point, Stacy stopped trying to rebuild her company. Whenever she had nothing else to do, she would wait outside Sidman Group and block my way in.Whenever Belle saw her, the two would inevitably clash. After Stacy sent me another expensive watch, I realized my desk drawer was already too full to hold anything else. When Belle saw my overflowing drawer, her frown deepened."Why are you keeping all this stuff instead of throwing it away?" she asked. "Don't tell me you really want to get back together with Stacy. I'd lose all respect for you."I said helplessly, "They're all valuable. I'll send them back once she gets tired of this."Belle paused, then suddenly said, "Jacob, I'm giving you some time off. This can't keep going. It's going to affect your work."Even though I repeatedly assured her that it wouldn't affect my work, Belle still sent me home right away. But maybe that was for the be

"Jake, what am I supposed to do? I have nothing left. What do I do now? Why is everyone leaving me? Didn't you all say you'd always spoil me?"Seeing Stacy like this, anyone would have felt a little sympathy for her.But I could only let out a long sigh.I wasn't some kind of savior, and I couldn't save someone as emotionally fragile as Stacy. After paying my respects at Martha's grave, I calmly said to Stacy, "I told you before that your mental health was in bad shape. You need professional help, and you really should see a therapist."Her expression darkened. She stared at me and asked through clenched teeth, "You think I'm crazy?"I frowned. Before I could say anything, she grabbed my arm tightly and demanded, "Jacob, tell me why! You know what I'm thinking, and you know I love you. So why are you still leaving me?"Zack said all the right things, but he secretly transferred company assets out and forced me to put the company up for auction."Why can't I ever have someone w

Belle stared at me in disbelief, clearly shocked. "You're divorcing Stacy? Are you serious?"It suddenly hit me that Belle hadn't been there when I told Stacy I wanted a divorce. She had no idea what had happened. So I answered matter-of-factly, "Yeah."Belle couldn't stop the corners of her mouth from lifting. She covered her mouth with a fist and gave a small cough."You love Stacy so much. You'd better think this through," she said.My gaze was steady. "I'm sure."Lunch was relaxed and pleasant.…After that day, Stacy didn't contact me either.I heard that once she returned to the company, she realized the bid she had won at a huge loss had left her scrambling to keep things running. She was practically living at the office every day, trying to deal with the mess. Her cash flow was extremely tight.Several times, suppliers even came to the company demanding payment and an explanation. With her being so busy, I finally had some peace and could focus on my own work.A we

Belle grew angrier as she spoke. Then she grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the bidding venue.I was still a little stunned as I looked down at her tense profile. I followed right behind her without putting up a fight. So this was what it felt like having someone to stand up for me. It felt great.Belle and I hadn't seen each other many times. Most of those meetings had been at business gatherings.Because Stacy and Belle didn't get along, I barely spoke to Belle. When I decided to leave Stacy and approached Belle about joining her company, I expected her to either tear into me or turn me down.Instead, Belle reached out to me herself. She told me she had always admired my work and was looking forward to having me on her team. For some reason, I felt a little emotional.Belle was still angry when she pulled me onto the main road.I stopped in my tracks and gently freed my hand from hers. She stopped too and looked at me, confused.I tried to speak as calmly as I could. Belle and I exchanged a helpless look and got up to leave. But Stacy blocked our way, still holding the bid proposal. She raised her brows with a smug look in her eyes and waved the proposal at Belle, smiling.Stacy said, "Belle, I won. What are you going to do about it now?"Her thoughts were full of excitement."Did you see that, Jake? I'm way better than Belle. Come back to me now. Don't let her fool you!"Stacy and Zack looked so pleased with themselves.Clearly, Zack was too busy trying to read Stacy's mind to realize that winning the bid at this price meant taking a huge loss. He actually thought he had won.Belle wasn't about to put up with Stacy's nonsense. She crossed her arms and said casually, "I wasn't even competing with you, but somehow you 'won' again. Stacy, can you stop tailing me?"I knew those words had hit a very sensitive spot for Stacy. She had always been the one who lost her composure over Belle's words.Stacy was so angry that she started trembling.

"Thank goodness I have Zack to help me figure things out. Jake really is trying to fool me! I knew it had to be that tramp, Belle. She'd do anything to win the bid!" Stacy thought.Thinking this, she put on her usual haughty attitude and disdainfully tossed the divorce papers into my arms."Jacob, tell Belle that winning the bid takes real skill. Don't even think about using dirty tricks!"After saying that, she stole a cautious glance at me and licked her lips. I knew she always did that when she was nervous. The next moment, she cleared her throat and said, "Well, Jacob, if you come back to me now, I might consider giving you a little promotion. You could be a manager."Before I could say anything, a clear female voice came from behind me. "A manager? Stacy, who are you looking down on?"Next thing I knew, Belle walked up beside me. She was dressed in a sleek business dress. She swept her dark hair back and said icily, "Jacob is Sidman Group's vice president, and you want him
