I walked into the office early the next morning. I was exhausted still, but I had things to do. Alannah stood with a shout. “Amy! You’re back.” She ran over and hugged me. “I was so worried when I hadn’t heard anything from you.”

“I just spent some time with my mom on an island off the coast. Cell service was bad.” I sniffed her. “You smell good.” I pulled back, patting her back. “I like the perfume, what is it?”

She looked a little confused for a moment. “It’s vanilla.”

I smiled. “It smells great, but I can tell it’s wearing off. You might want to add a little, so it lasts all day.” I winked at her as understand entered her eyes.

“Good idea. I’ve been running around all morning, so I was really sweaty.” She turned around and went to her desk, pulling the bottle from her purse and spraying herself. She turned to me expectantly. “How’s that?”

“Perfect.” I looked around. “Is Rick in?”

She shook her head. “He left early yesterday after his meeting with the alpha. I think we weren’t fee

The council all looked at each other as Marcus’s words set in, and one by one they joined in with his laughter. Theo, with his confidence restored once again, strode over and lifted my chin with a finger. “You are a pretty little thing though. If you serve me, I might find a use for you.”I smiled as I leaned into him. The smirk on his face bloomed into a full grin as he thought I was leaning in to kiss him, but my smile fell as I felt my fangs descend. “The only way I will serve you, Theo…is if you are on a fucking platter.” My hand shot out, and his scream ripped through the room as I snapped the finger that was touching me. “Don’t ever fucking touch me. Do you understand?” I shoved him back to the others. Theo screamed as he snapped his bent finger back into proper alignment before his bones fused that way. “You stupid bitch. I was offering you a way out, but you threw it back in my face.” His face was splotchy, and spit flew from his mouth as he pointed at me with his healing fin

Everyone whirled as a bookcase was pushed open, revealing Rowan, Ronnie and my father. The three men walked confidently into the office, my father looking completely healed. Rowan walked around the room and stopped in front of Silas. “You have shown that you are an honorable wolf. Thank you for always guiding me and training me as I grew older.” He held out his arm and ignored the four men who jumped to their feet and backed away against the far wall. Silas grasped Rowan’s forearm and then bowed his head. “It has been not only my honor to teach you but a privilege.” Rowan pulled him into a hug, and the star above his brow faded. “But how can you be so sure about me?” Silas pulled away and dropped to a knee. “I have been complacent and allowed others to move against you.”Rowan stopped his bow with a hand. “Not everyone is the best judge of character.” I cut my dad a look and smirked. He pointed at my face and gave a tiny growl. I raised my hands in surrender, but I stood and made my

I think he realized his mistake because his mouth snapped shut. Silas stumbled back against the wall. “First you go against the King. But now you are openly going against the Goddess?”“What did you mean, Theo? You are correcting the mistake of creating Lycans?” My voice was low, and I could feel my body go quiet and still. Nix was quiet, but on edge. Silas paled. I think his brain finally caught up with what Theo said. “Tell me you spoke out of anger.” He pushed off the wall and looked at all the members one at a time. “Tell me Theo is just angry.” The others stayed quiet, but Silas shook his head. “Please tell me you had nothing to do with what happened twenty years ago.” He begged, but the others stayed silent.“They can’t do that without lying, Silas.” I looked at him and watched the truth hit him. He paled and stumbled back against the wall. “He was our friend.” He shook his head. “He was a good man, a good king, and his wife…” He trailed off, and I could see he was reliving so

The scent of panic permeated the air, but Theo scoffed. “Vince wasn’t a smart man, but he wasn’t stupid either. He had everything coded on his computer with those stupid fucking codes he made everyone do.”Marcus nodded. “He was a stickler for them.”Evan took in a deep breath. “And the code answers he mailed out every month.” He wiped his face. “We thought it was overkill, but Garith agreed with him.” He patted Yarrow’s shoulder. “We are fine.”Yarrow nodded, and slowly the air in the room cleared. Their arrogance surged back into their demeanor. He turned to me and forced a smile. “You had us, but we have contingencies built in for exactly this kind of scenario.”I still played dumb. I raised my hands. “Look, I am only relaying what I know. Vince and his ranked wolves are jailed or dead. Verity is dead. Garith…whoever that is, is dead.”Marcus, who was still seated, leaned closer to the desk. “You are saying you don’t know who Garith is?” He raised his eyebrow. I saw all the men sni

Silas jumped up. “Evan! You can’t make jokes like that. You are a member of this council, and you should behave as such.” Theo, Yarrow and Marcus looked at each other, and I could see the divide. Yarrow held out his hands. “Silas…”I pressed back into my chair. “I don’t think he was joking.” I pursed my lips. “I feel like you said a dark inner thought out loud there, Evan.” I sat back. “Probably not the smartest decision you’ve ever made.” Evan laughed as he turned his dead eyes onto me. “It’s not going to matter what I say here today.”Silas paled. “What do you mean?” He backed away from the others. He looked at me with wide eyes. “Is this why you demanded we bring all our guards…and the spear?”Marcus started to slow clap. “Come brother. You can’t be this dense.” He dropped his hands. “Can we get on with this little charade?”Theo raised his hands. “Let’s calm down.” He turned to look at me and smiled. “Nothing has been decided.”I sighed. “Listen, while I am not old, I am also no

There was a knock on the door, and it swung open. “Alpha…The council and their guards are here.” Tawny, an Omega, stepped back with a bow, and the Elder Council walked into the office. I lifted a brow, and with a sarcastic smile. “Come in.” I waved a hand at the few chairs I had, and the five men walked in. I lifted my lip in disgust, which I covered with a cough when I saw there were no women in their ranks. Nix scoffed. Your surprised? Megan snorted from where she was wrapped around our magic. Come on, Amy, they scream progressiveness with their nine hundred-year-old cloaks, and the arrogance that old men carry. I had to cough again, but I waited until they were all settled. “You will have to forgive me. I didn’t know you were coming, and I have never been introduced to all of you.” I crossed my arms and leaned onto my father’s desk. “What can I do for you, gentlemen?”One man smirked. “Forgive our intrusion, but we have heard rumors of a pack operating on these pack lands, and w
