Chapter 1

Cody was stunned at first, but he then smiled whimsically.

"Are you taking out your anger on me because it didn't snow today, so you feel embarrassed?"

"I’m serious, I want a divorce," I emphasized, word by word.

Sensing the abnormality in my voice, the nasty smile on the man's face gradually faded.

Even the maid serving him tea didn’t dare to move.

After a few seconds of silence, Cody broke it with a cold scoff.

"Jenny, I thought you were used to it by now. You don’t want a repeat of what happened three years ago, do you?"

My mind drifted back to the incident three years ago.

In front of the massive screen, I was reporting clear weather across the city, reminding the citizens to apply sunscreen. Meanwhile, Cody was spending a fortune on artificial rain to please a nightclub hostess.

Dark clouds filled the sky, and I became the most pathetic weather queen in the city.

My boss scolded me so harshly I couldn't lift my head. I received the first fine of my career.

I caused quite a scene after that, storming into the nightclub and smashing a bottle over the hostess's head.

Cody lounged on the couch, watching my meltdown in silence.

Not long after that, I learned that my mother got into a car accident while she was rushing over to comfort me and she would be paralyzed for life.

I broke down, crying and screaming.

Cody calmly told me, "Patience is a virtue that is necessary for my wife. You didn’t understand before, so I taught you a lesson. You'll definitely understand it now."

I opened my mouth but found no voice.

That incident cut at my heart every day like a knife.

Seeing me silent, Cody softened his tone. He casually pointed to the pile of shopping bags on the coffee table and said, "As long as you know your place, you can have all the expensive things you want, Mrs. Harper. What reason do you have to be unhappy?"

With a nod, the maid revealed a high-end dress.

Various high fashion clothes and limited edition bags that women would kill for were in my closet.

But I alone knew that all this was merely compensation for his infidelity.

Wearing them felt no different from being paraded around.

I coldly laughed and splashed coffee onto the gown.

Gasps echoed around me.

Cody looked at the stains that accidentally got onto his clothes and lost his patience with me.

"Enough, Jenny!"

A cup of hot tea splashed onto me, instantly causing blisters on my skin.

The pain made my fingers curl and my scalp tingle.

His breath caught, but the fierceness in his eyes remained unchanged.

"Sydney is now an intern at your station. I hope you can mentor her. Even if you won't, I can make her famous anyway."

His gaze shifted to my awards, his eyes filled with warning.

He had plenty of means to force a woman like me, who valued honor as highly as my own life, to obey him.

Suppressing my bitterness, I replied with a smile, "Sure."

Surprise flickered in his eyes before a phone call interrupted him. When he spoke into the phone, his tone instantly softened.

"Okay, I'll be there in a minute."

After hanging up, he strode away.

Watching his unconcealed excitement, I wiped away tears and called my college senior who was a lawyer.

"Help me with the divorce. I’ll fulfill our five-year agreement."

Before the trial, I took every measure to avoid Cody.He had significant influence in the city, so I could run into his eyes anywhere. Therefore, I temporarily moved in with Steven. With Steven's reputation in the legal field, no one would dare to act rashly. After two days of calm, the first person to visit me was surprisingly Sydney. As soon as I opened the door, she charge at me like a lunatic."Jenny! You have some nerve. How dare you report the case? Cody won't stay mad at me forever. He wouldn't really abandon me. You're done for!"Without hesitation, I gave her a hard slap on the face. She stood in shock, unable to close her mouth."You... you actually dare to hit me?"I slapped her again."What makes you think I wouldn't dare to hit you? What makes you think I would be afraid of Cody?"At first, I thought she was just one of Cody's many lovers.I didn't take her seriously, nor did I hate her that much. But when I discovered she was the culprit who ran over my mothe

Those words left Cody wide-eyed in disbelief."Jenny! I only signed the divorce agreement on impulse. It doesn't count! I don't believe you were serious!"Of course he was acting on impulse, but it also showed how arrogant he had become. After all, for the past five years, I had loved him from a position of utmost humility. It didn't matter if he had lovers or if he humiliated me in public, I always forgave him.Even when it felt like my heart was being ripped apart and I hated myself for forgiving him, I still did.So, he had grown used to my obedience.Even the maids at home didn't believe I would leave him, as they thought that without Cody, I would be nothing. Besides, I loved him too much. Cody naturally thought so too.Hearing him say that made me clench my fists."When you helped Sydney hurt my mother, you should have known this day would come, especially now that my mother is dead!"A hint of guilt flashed in Cody's eyes. He rushed forward and held my shoulders."J

The moment the car exploded, Steven Barnes rushed out and shielded me in his arms.Although I was saved, watching the car explode with my own eyes shattered my heart. The man beside me kept comforting me in a low voice, holding me tightly to stop me from going crazy. After that day, I slept for three days and three nights, as if trying to escape reality. But I had to face it eventually.I composed myself and prepared my mother's funeral. It wasn't until after she was buried that I broke down and cried."I'm so useless..."Steven patted my shoulder gently. "Jenny, it's not your fault.""It's Cody Harper's fault. It's Sydney Swain's fault. It's definitely not your fault."When I learned that Sydney had kidnapped my mother, I wished more than anything that Cody would be on my side. I wish he would at least believe me instead of repeatedly helping the evildoer. So, when the car exploded, all my expectations for Cody turned to ashes. As I was leaving the cemetery, I instructed t

"Cody..." Sydney covered her face in disbelief. The passers-by stopped to watch.Cody glared at her fiercely, his eyes bloodshot. "You actually kidnapped Jenny's mother? Are you out of your mind?!"The onlookers gasped.Sydney panicked, her words stumbling, "I-I didn't! I wouldn't dare to touch her mother! You must be mistaken!"Cody threw the photo of the license plate at her."Take a look for yourself! I've already disposed of the car. Who else could have bought it back? Sydney, was the incident three years ago also intentional?"The woman grabbed him in a panic, her eyes filled with tears: "Cody, don't tell anyone, okay? Didn't you say that it's all in the past? Let's never mention it again. I don't want to be kicked out of the TV station..."Hearing those selfish words, Cody closed his eyes in despair.Back then, Sydney had pleaded in a similar pitiful manner, begging him to save her.She kept saying that she didn't do it on purpose, and that she only hit Jenny's mother b

Cody quickly rushed back to the scene. Looking at the charred remains before him, he felt as if the whole world was spinning."Who... who is this?"The body had been burned beyond recognition, a gruesome sight. The firefighter replied, "You said your wife got into the car. We suspect it's her, but we need to do further testing."Cody's mind instantly went blank. She was alive and kicking not long ago and was even energetic enough to cause him all kind of trouble, but now...Cody recklessly charged forward but was restrained by the staff."Mr. Harper, please calm down. We'll take the corpse back for testing immediately."Cody leaned weakly against the wall."No, this can't be true!"He roared madly, then squatted on the ground and cried in despair.Over the years, Jenny had always been his pride and joy. From a lawyer, she had transformed into the queen of weather forecasting, and later won the June Bacon-Bercey Award for five consecutive years with her own ability. She use

"Help! Help!"Guests at the venue scattered in panic.Cody seemed stunned."Wait, didn't Jenny get into that car just now?"Realizing that, Cody frantically tried to rush into the fire.Flames soared high and thick smoke barreled toward him, forcing him back."Jenny!"The car was completely engulfed in flames. He stared intently at the wreckage, but there was no sign of Jenny.Sydney pulled him to safety while coughing incessantly."Cody, the firefighters are already here. Jenny will be alright."But the fire burned even brighter, and Cody's heart sank. Why did Jenny rush into that car? How did it suddenly explode? In the glow of the fire, he vaguely recognized the burning car."Sydney, isn't that your old car?"Sydney's eyes darted around anxiously, and she stammered, "I think it just looks similar. It's a pretty common model. It's just a coincidence. Let's get out of here, the smoke is giving me a headache."Cody was pulled into his car, but his eyes remained fixed on
