With the watch gone, I had no way to contact Lucas.

By my count, his bomb disposal mission wouldn't be over for another six hours.

At noon, I walked into the school cafeteria.

The moment I stepped in, the noisy room fell silent.

Everyone stared. Students picked up their trays and moved away.

I went up to the counter and handed my student card to the cafeteria worker.

"The steak meal, please."

She swiped it, and the machine let out a warning beep.

"Your card's been frozen. It won't work."

She tossed the card back to me and gave me a cold look.

Behind me, Celine laughed.

"People who bully their classmates don't get to use school resources.

"The student council has decided to cut you off from every service on campus."

She walked over with a tray, flanked by her followers.

"That's the price of justice.

"Get on your knees and beg Lucas for forgiveness, even if he's not here. Then maybe I'll let you have a bite to eat."

The students around us whooped and jeered.

I ignored her and pulled out a black card.

"If I can't eat school food, I'll buy my own."

I called the head chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant off campus.

"Send your service team to the school cafeteria right now.

"I'm buying every signature dish you have today. Bring it all here."

Ten minutes later, four refrigerated trucks pulled up outside the cafeteria.

A team of 12 uniformed servers filed in, pushing carts.

Premium caviar, Australian wagyu, and white truffles covered a long table.

The head chef stood respectfully beside me and laid my napkin across my lap.

"Please enjoy your meal, Boss."

The cafeteria was so quiet you could hear people breathing.

Celine's face flushed red, then drained of color.

"Who are you trying to impress? You probably hired these people with Lucas's money!"

She pointed at me, teeth clenched.

"Go break open her locker!

"Let's see how much stolen stuff she's hiding in there!"

At her signal, a few student council officers ran toward the lockers at the end of the hall.

I set down my knife and fork, dabbed my mouth, and followed them.

By the time I got there, they'd already pried the door open with a crowbar.

My things were all over the floor.

Celine was crouched down, pulling a shirt out of a garment bag.

Lucas had worn that shirt on a job two weeks earlier.

A tear ran across the stomach, surrounded by a large patch of dried blood.

"Oh my God! That's so much blood!"

A girl nearby covered her mouth and screamed.

Celine's face lit up with something close to glee. She reached into the bottom of the bag and pulled out a bloodstained combat knife.

She held the knife and the bloody shirt up over her head.

"Everyone, look at this!

"This is proof she's been torturing Lucas!

"She cut him with a knife! She's insane!"

Now the crowd was furious. Some students started rolling up their sleeves.

"Beat her to death! Do it for Lucas!"

"Somebody that vicious belongs in a psych ward!"

I watched Celine wave that ridiculously expensive custom knife around like a toy.

I watched these idiots take Lucas's badge of honor, something he'd nearly died for, and call it proof that I was a bully.

I'd had enough.

I strode over, eyes fixed on Celine.

"Get your dirty hands off that knife."

Celine lifted her chin, sure of herself, and pointed the knife at me.

"What? A murderer wants to destroy the evidence?

"This knife is enough to convict you, and I'm handing it over to campus security right now!"

One of the guys with her reached for the bloody shirt, eager to impress her.

"Why are you even talking to her? Grab the shirt too before she destroys it!"

His fingers were an inch from the shirt.

I swung with everything I had and slapped him across the face.

The slap echoed down the hallway, and a red handprint rose on his cheek.

Total silence.

No one had expected me to lash out, not in a situation like this.

The guy held his face and glared at me.

"You... you hit me?"

I pulled out a wet wipe and slowly cleaned my hand.

"I hit you because you don't deserve to touch anything of his.

"That shirt is none of your business."

Celine was so furious she laughed. She threw the bloody shirt on the floor.

"The evidence is right here, and you still attack people in public? You think you own this school?"

She pulled out her phone and began typing furiously.

"Since you don't know what's good for you, don't blame me for what happens next.

"Tonight, I'm going to show you what real despair feels like."

The moment she was cuffed, Celine lost it completely. She thrashed so hard her gown tore, and she screamed without a shred of dignity."You can't arrest me! My dad is a trustee! Two of them hauled her up by the arms and dragged her toward the door.At the same time, my family's legal team walked into the room in step, carrying briefcases.Elliot, the lead attorney, tossed a file in front of Harold."Mr. Lawson, we've referred Ms. Lawson's crimes to prosecutors and filed our civil case in court."Under local law, she faces at least ten years in prison, and we won't settle our civil claims."Harold's vision went dark, and he nearly passed out.But Elliot wasn't done. He pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses."Together with the auditors, we've begun dismantling the Lawson family business."The evidence of your corruption and kickbacks has already been handed over to the prosecutors."As of this minute, the Lawson family is bankrupt."Harold's m

Seeing Harold on his knees silenced the ballroom.Celine screamed and tried to pull him up. "Dad! What are you doing?! Why are you kneeling to her?!""Shut up!"Harold backhanded her with a loud crack, knocking her to the floor again. The roar of rotors rattled the windows.Several all-black helicopters hovered right outside the ballroom.Dozens of heavily armed operatives crashed in through the windows. In an instant, red laser dots appeared on the forehead of every campus security officer.Mercer, the commanding officer, strode toward me, his boots crunching over broken glass. He stopped three feet away and gave me a crisp salute."Boss, the threat has been neutralized. Your orders?"The room erupted in chaos. The VIPs who'd been outraged a minute ago were now too scared to breathe.Celine held her face, completely stunned."What do you mean, 'Boss'...? Have you got the wrong person? She's just some new-money brat who uses her money to push people around!"Mercer glanced at her, then

Celine's smile froze on her face as the barrel pressed against her forehead."Lucas... have you... have you lost your mind?"Her voice shook. She lost her grip on her wineglass, and it shattered on the floor."I was trying to save you! And you're pointing a gun at me?"Lucas didn't even look at her. He pushed the barrel forward an inch, making her stumble back two steps."You think your worthless life is worth hers?"He didn't raise his voice, but everyone felt a chill."Where is she?"Celine's legs gave out, and she dropped down onto the broken glass."I... I don't know..."Lucas had no patience for her lies. He kicked the crystal podium beside him, and it shattered. He snatched the flashing watch from Celine's hand and pressed a few buttons. The screen showed exactly where the heart-rate alarm had gone off."The cold room under the old campus."Lucas's eyes went icy.He spun around and ran for the old campus.15 minutes later.Outside the iron door of the cold room, a military breach

Crystal chandeliers glittered in the ballroom.Celine glided up to the podium and adjusted the microphone."Good evening, trustees and fellow students."I'm not just here for charity tonight."I'm here to expose a monster hiding among us!"An image of Lucas's bloody shirt filled the big screen.Gasps spread through the room."This shirt belongs to our school's best student, Lucas Reid."Celine's eyes turned red, and her voice caught at just the right moment."To get by, he's quietly endured abuse from a rich girl."She's made him stand in the pouring rain as punishment, and she's tortured him like this!"She had the whole room fired up. The VIPs shook their heads and sighed, and angry voices rose all around. At the head table, Weir pounded his fist down in outrage."A cancer like that has to be cut out of this school immediately!"Deep underground in the cellar, I was slipping away.Frost covered my eyelashes. At five that afternoon, I got a text from my advisor. It said I had to go to the underground wine cellar on the old campus right away to help pull video evidence from Lucas's part-time job.I knew it was one of Celine's traps. But she had the comm device. I had to get it back before it caused a security disaster no one could contain. The cellar on the old campus had been abandoned for years. Hardly anyone went down there anymore.I had barely made it down the steps when the iron door slammed shut behind me.I heard metal scrape as the lock slid into place."Celine, what are you playing at now?"I stood by the iron door and spoke evenly. On the other side of the door, Celine laughed."Not so fun being broke and powerless, is it, princess?"Lucas stood in the pouring rain for two hours as punishment."Tonight, you can stay in this cold room and get a taste of what he went through!"As soon as she finished speaking, the exhaust fan roared to life. Cold air rushed in from every direction.
