Chapter 13

The Gift

Lucas’s POV

“You can simply kiss my fist,” I yelled, shaking my folded hands in his face, ready to launch a blow if he tried anything stupid.

“You're always so pretty, cutie,” Alex smirked, leaning in close. “I will take my leave now, because if I stay any longer, I’m going to pin you to the bed.”

He didn't even notice my pheromones spiking with rage. Was he really that blind to how upset I was? What kind of a person was Alex anyway?

“I’ll send you to an early grave if you don’t get the hell out of my home right now.” I glared daggers at him, sharpening my tone so he knew I was serious.

“I’m leaving, I'm leaving. See you soon, my cutie.” He winked, whirled around on his heel, and walked out.

A smile started to curve my lips—until I caught myself. What is wrong with me? Quickly, I slapped both hands over my mouth to stop it.

I finally returned to my room, but my skin was still crawling. My eyes kept looking at the corners of the ceiling. What if there were other hidden cameras around? What kind of Alpha spied on someone like this? What was he planning?

Anyway, as long as I got what I needed from him, I had nothing to worry about. Once the event was over and he signed the deal, I was done with him for good. I couldn't let him blow my cover and ruin everything.

I checked under the bed and inside the closet one last time before turning off the light. Right as I settled in, my phone buzzed on the nightstand, lighting up the dark room with Jett's name.

“Just checking up on you. Make sure you get enough rest.”

A real smile broke across my face as I texted back, “Yes, I’m okay and going to sleep right now.” I tossed the phone onto the pillow and went to sleep.

At the company the next day, my jaw dropped when Jett walked into my office. “Your mother is waiting in the waiting room to see you.”

Why was she here? Was she back to lecture me again? My ears were already tired of it. I had already told her I had everything under control. I wouldn't allow my omega side to take over. I had spent my whole life hiding it with heavy suppressants so well, and I would keep on doing so.

“Jett, she can come in,” I said, rubbing my temples the moment I clicked 'End' on my Zoom meeting.

“Okay,” Jett said and went out. A second later, my secretary walked in carrying a huge, fancy gift box.

“What is that?”

“Master Jun, you got a gift and I was instructed to bring it to you.”

“Who sent it?” I tilted my head. Nobody sent me gifts unless the usual happened again—when a clueless Omega took me seriously because of the fake Alpha act I put on.

“Master Li Wei.”

My stomach did a flip. That bastard. Did he think I was his fated mate or something?

“You can drop it and leave,” I instructed, and she hurried out.

I gently lifted the lid off to see what was inside. My eyes went wide—a breathtaking white tailored suit with a matching pair of leather shoes.

“He is such an idiot... but I like it.”

Right as the office door handle clicked open, I eagerly pulled the suit out of the box. But the fabric snagged on something deep inside. With a loud CLATTER-CLACK, hidden items dropped out from the bottom, bounced high off my desk, and went flying across the office floor.

A pair of bright, fuzzy pink handcuffs, a leather whip, and a silk blindfold slid smoothly across the floor, stopping right against my mom’s expensive shoes.

My mom froze dead in the doorway.

Her eyes popped so wide I thought they would literally roll out of her face. Her jaw dropped open so low her mouth formed a perfect 'O', and a deep blush rushed from her neck all the way to her ears. She stared down at the fuzzy pink handcuffs, gasped for air like a fish out of water, and pointed a shaking finger at the floor like she was having a heart attack.

THAT IDIOT! Why would he put handcuffs, a whip, and a blindfold in a corporate box?!

“Jun…” Mom squeaked, her voice pitching so high it cracked. “What is the meaning of that? Are you secretly having such a relationship with someone else? An Alpha?!”

“No Mom! No!” I let out a loud, fake laugh to brush it off, throwing myself onto the floor. I scrambled on all fours, snatching the whip and handcuffs at lightning speed, shoving them deep into the box, and slamming the lid down like it contained a bomb. “Someone mistook me for a girl so I will return it back... you know how delivery people mix things up!”

Mom clutched her chest, letting out a massive breath that shook her shoulders. “I was scared for a moment… You have to make sure you don’t blow up your cover, please son. I know being an omega is not easy, mostly when we are in heat, but I trust everything my friend has been giving you, the serums will help.”

I nodded quickly, forcing a stiff smile. How could I tell her that an Alpha... that jerk was already breaking through all those patches and serums?

“You worry too much, Mom. So why are you here?”

Her face instantly wiped clean of the shock, turning dead serious. “I heard your father was furious at you. I thought you had the deal under control…”

I knew mother was poking her nose into things again, that was how she found out.

“Mother, have I ever lost any deal ever since I took over the seat?”

“You aced it all son and I’m proud of you, but at the same time, that is why I’m so worried. This has never happened before. Is there a way I can help you son? I don’t want your father to stay upset with you.”

“Mom, you need to worry less about everything because I got it under control.” I assured her, but I noticed the look on her face—she still had her doubts.

Her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at it and then at me. “If you say so son, don’t hesitate to call me if things get out of control.”

“I don’t think it would get to that Mom.”

“Whatever.” She walked toward the exit door and paused. “Also, avoid any Alpha coming close. You can’t afford to expose what we kept for years, remember this is for the honor of our family.”

“Yes mother, I heard you.”

The moment she left I was able to breathe again. That idiot. I was going to kill him. He kept toying with me and doing as he pleased.

I ordered for the gift to be kept in my car as I proceeded with work at the office along with meetings.

Once I was back in my office alone, a sudden heat hit me hard.

My body started burning from the inside out. Sweating broke out all over my skin, soaking through my clothes. My thighs went weak, and my whole body started aching with a heavy, restless need. The heat was rushing through my veins so fast I couldn't stop it.

I fell against my desk, panting for air.

My omega scent burst out of me, sweet, thick, and leaking into the air until the whole room smelled of it. The suppressants weren't working anymore. My slick was starting to wet through my pants, making me shiver with shame and heat.

What is happening to me? Why now?

I scrambled for my phone on the desk, my hands shaking so badly I almost dropped it. The scent in the room was getting thicker by the second. I couldn't let any Alpha smell this. The only person I could call was Jett. He was a beta, so he wouldn't react to my heat, but I needed help before I completely lost my mind.

I dialed his number with trembling fingers. "Jett... come to my office right now."

The moment he entered, I locked the door and gripped him close to me.

“Are you alright? You look pale.” I noticed he was avoiding touching me. If he was an Alpha then I would understand he was finding it hard to resist my pheromones, but he was a beta. Was it because I had taken off my suit jacket and left my white sleeve buttons undone, exposing my hot skin?

“Jett, look at me please,” I pleaded, my voice breaking from the heat burning inside me.

“You look sick, I should take you to the hospital.”

“No Jett.” The omega pheromones were leaking out completely now. I was desperate, my heat making my body ache for anyone to touch me.

He tried to let go of my hold, but I held on tight till we lost our balance and I fell on top of him on the floor, our noses touching.

“Lucas...”

“Shh... kiss me Jett.” I reached for his lips.
