By the next morning, Leighton had made a silent decision: she wasn’t going to break another rule.

Not because she feared the brothers’ consequences — though she did — but because part of her wanted to see what happened when she followed them exactly.

When Kai appeared at her door at 8 a.m., she was already dressed.

“Downstairs,” he said.

She moved without hesitation.

The dining room was quieter than usual, only Rhett at the head of the table. Adrian wasn’t there, which made the air feel tighter somehow.

“Sit,” Rhett said, not looking up from the folder in front of him.

She sat.

Kai took his place beside her, sliding a mug of coffee toward her. She murmured a thank you, and caught the faintest twitch at the corner of his mouth — not quite a smile, but close.

When Rhett finally closed the folder, his eyes met hers. “You’re learning.”

She kept her gaze steady. “Yes.”

“Then today,” he said, “we’ll see if you can anticipate us.”

Her brows drew together. “Anticipate?”

Kai answered for him.

The house was silent. Not the kind of silence that comes from emptiness, but the heavy, watching silence of something waiting to happen.Clara stood at the window of her guest room, looking out over the dark gardens. She told herself she should be in bed, that she should end this now before it went further than it already had. But the truth was in the way her hands tightened against the windowsill — she was waiting.A soft knock came at the door. She turned, heart already picking up speed. When she opened it, Julian was there. He looked as controlled as always, dark shirt open at the collar, eyes steady.“Come with me,” he said.It was not a question. She followed him down the hall, her bare feet soundless on the polished wood. The corridor grew dimmer as they moved into the older wing of the house, where the walls narrowed and the air carried a faint scent of cedar. He stopped at a door she had never noticed before, unlocking it with a small brass key. Inside, the room was lit only b

The afternoon passed in an uneasy rhythm. Clara tried to stay in the guest wing, telling herself it was safer to put space between her and them. But the truth was she could not keep her mind from replaying the library — the slow circling, the way each of them had taken a piece of her composure, the quiet satisfaction in their eyes when she had made it to the end of their challenge but not without reaction. She worked her way through a book she could not remember reading. She took a bath in the enormous claw-foot tub, the heat easing the tension in her muscles but not in her thoughts. By the time evening fell, the restlessness was unbearable. She wandered down the hallway toward the main part of the house. Music was playing faintly somewhere ahead, something low and sensual that seemed to echo through the walls. She found the source in the smaller sitting room. Elias was there, lounging on the sofa with a drink in hand, shirt unbuttoned enough to expose the line of his collarbone. He l

Clara woke to pale light seeping through the tall curtains. The storm had passed, leaving the air heavy and still. For a moment, she lay in the wide bed, letting the silence wrap around her. She almost convinced herself that the tension of last night had been nothing but her imagination.Almost.A soft knock broke the quiet. She slipped out of bed and opened the door a crack.Noah stood there in a white shirt and dark jeans, his hair slightly damp as if he had just come from the shower. “Breakfast is in the sunroom,” he said. She nodded. “I’ll be down soon.”He didn’t move. “Julian and Elias are already there. They’re waiting for you.”The way he said it made the words feel heavier than they should have. She closed the door and dressed in a simple silk blouse and tailored skirt before making her way downstairs. The sunroom was bright and warm, glass walls looking out onto the wet gardens. Julian was reading a newspaper at the head of the table. Elias lounged in a chair, sipping coffee

The storm started as a distant rumble while they were still at the dinner table.By the time dessert plates were cleared, rain was battering the tall windows hard enough to blur the gardens into dark shapes. Wind rattled the glass, and somewhere deep in the house, a door groaned against its hinges.Clara stood in the foyer with Richard, listening to him speak into his phone in a clipped, irritated tone. His driver had just informed him that there was an emergency meeting at the corporate offices in the city. It was late, the storm was only worsening, but Richard seemed set on going.“You should stay here tonight,” he said to her as he shrugged into his coat. “The weather is too rough for you to drive, and the guest wing has more than enough space. I’ll be back tomorrow morning.”She nodded, pretending not to notice the three shadows in the doorway to the library. Julian, Elias, and Noah were each leaning differently — Julian straight-backed, Elias with one shoulder pressed lazily to t

Clara Wynn had perfected the art of appearing untouched by nerves. The trick, she had learned, was to keep her shoulders straight, her chin tilted just enough to seem confident, and her smile warm without ever showing too much. She needed all of that tonight. The Cross estate was more like a private kingdom than a home. The drive wound through tall, ancient trees before opening onto a sweeping courtyard lit by soft golden lamps. The house itself — though calling it a house felt almost insulting — stretched in graceful lines of stone and glass, the kind of architecture meant to last centuries. Her fiancé, Richard Cross, had told her very little about his three sons beyond their ages and the fact that they were “independent men.” That could mean anything from respectable businessmen to professional troublemakers. She was about to find out.The butler opened the massive front doors and led her into a foyer where polished marble floors reflected the warm glow of chandeliers. A staircase c

The ribbon sat on Mara’s nightstand for three days, a silent temptation. She did not text him. She did not call. She did not see him.And then, on the fourth night, her phone buzzed with a single message.Suite 2701. Midnight. Wear the ribbon. There was no greeting. No question. Just that.At 11:58, she was standing in front of his door, the red silk tied neatly around her wrist. She knocked once. The door opened almost immediately. Dorian looked exactly as he had the first night she met him. Crisp shirt, dark trousers, that same unshakable presence. His gaze flicked to the ribbon, then back to her eyes.“Come in,” he said. She stepped inside. The lights were low again, the windows framing the glittering city. But something was different tonight. The air felt heavier, charged. On the coffee table sat a coil of soft, natural-colored rope. Her breath caught.Dorian closed the door behind her and moved past her without touching. He picked up the rope and let it run through his fingers. “
