Settling in the car, Lucian drove out of the parking lot. He glanced at me before asking, “You had dinner yet?”

“No. We were deciding what to get before you showed up.” I answered honestly.

“Want to grab something before heading home?” He kept saying home even though his place felt far from a home. I thought about refusing but changed my mind.

“Sure. There’s this fast food restaurant I wanted to try out.” I told him, getting my phone out to get directions.

“Fast food? You don’t want to go to a five star?” He asked while glancing at me, uncertainty in his voice.

“No, that's alright.” I said distractedly, looking through my phone for directions. As soon as I found it I guided Lucian through the way. After ten minutes we were parked outside a small old looking restaurant. I undid my seat belt and got out. Lucian came after me.

    Lucian Two hours later, I parked my car outside a boutique that was nestled between two high-end jewelry stores. Its exterior deceptively minimalist, just floor-to-ceiling glass with delicate gold lettering that read “Maison Élodie.” A friend owned this shop. For me it was a walk-in appointment, but for others it would take months to secure one.
