Chapter Eight: Won’t love him.
Anna heard a knock on the door, she rose from the couch and paused the movie she was watching. “Arya, is that you?” she opened the door and smiled.
“Good evening.” Arya bowed, and went to her sister for a hug. Anna brightly enveloped her in a hug.
She noticed her little sister wasn’t letting go and gave her a pat on the back gently. “Don’t worry, everything will work out dear. Come inside.” She ushered her in.
Arya wiped her wet face, she smiled seeing the series her sister was watching on Tv. “I never knew these household dramas could happen in real life.”
“Oh, it can. It surely can.” Anna exhaled, plopping down on the couch. She got up again. “Do you want me to make food for you. You’re staying here, right?”
The younger sister nodded. “Yeah, do you have chicken?”
Anna rolled her eyes, sighing. “Look how you are being picky? Do you know how expensive chicken is?”
Arya smiled, she watched her elder sister, still grumbling, leave to make food for her. Her mind went back to Mr. Wade who had accompanied her through her stressful day.
She wondered if he had gone home safely since it was still raining. They hadn’t share contact info so she couldn’t call.
“Stop worrying about that man. He played his part, I’d be always grateful but I really need to know more about Sir. Damien before marriage.” She mumbled.
With that, she rose from the couch she was on and sauntered into the kitchen where her sister was. “Anna, I'd like to know something.”
Anna glanced at her, then at the plate she was washing. “What is it?”
“What kind of man is Sir Damien? I’ve never met him before..”
“Oh.” Anna smirked. “He’s filthy rich. That’s the important part of him.”
Arya frowned. “I’m serious.”
“I am too. But that’s not the most important. Actually, he is the only son of his family and is a perfectionist and a workaholic. He’s the perfect husband too.” She winked.
Arya rolled her eyes. She dreaded perfectionists. As a budding engineer and teenager, she knew she hadn’t gone far in life and wouldn’t want someone who’d look down on her efforts.
“He will like you, don’t worry.” Anna began frying some pieces of chicken.
“That’s not why I asked. And he’d like me? This is a contract marriage, you know, right? I don’t need him to like me.” Her younger sister huffed.
Anna placed down her spatula and gazed at her sister, like she was staring at an alien.
“A contract marriage doesn’t mean you can’t love him. It just has terms; a kid before this limit, be his wife for this limit…” she paused, looking at Arya, realizing she overemphasized.
“You know, right?” Arya sniffed.
“Know what?” she tried to act clueless.
“You know our parents' marriage was a contract.” Arya sighed. “Mom was to bear dad a son and make sure the marriage lasts ten years or else she will pay $100,000.”
Anna’s eyes dimmed on her sister. “Who told you that?” She didn’t know that part.
“Dad, that’s why he wanted me to marry and get money from it.” Arya looked down.
Anna had an unreadable expression. If it was all a contract then it’d explain why her father never loved her mother and cheated on her with aunt Jenna.
“Dad has been in love with aunt Jenna for a long while. I think mom got in the way and married him with a contract.” She revealed to Arya.
It wasn’t very surprising to Arya that her father was a cheat, she had her suspicions. It still hurt her very much though.
“Well, the contract marriage I’d have with Sir Damien will be spelt out. I am not bearing him a child and as he said, it’s still I find a man.” Arya nodded at her words.
Anna was looking at her again like she was an alien.
“Does it make sense? He said but does he mean it? Why marry a woman who won’t bear you a child and will leave when she sees another man!” Anna slammed her hand on the kitchen cabinet.
Arya froze. But that was what Sir Damien agreed with her. “I don’t know him or love him. He is only helping me get away from dad.”
“That’s what you think? He’d pay $100,000 just to help you. And why? Who are you to him? You’re getting married, Arya.” Her sister pointed at her.
She dropped her hands down and imagined how her younger sister could be so immature.
Arya folded her arms, across her chest. “You know you sound like dad now, right? I am to marry a man I know nothing about just because he paid some bills?”
Anna sighed, trying to stop herself from overreacting. She knew Damien had been in love with her sister for long and the marriage wasn’t just to help but actually marry her.
“Won’t you try to like the man before concluding?”
“I like someone else!” Arya replied.
“Who? Since when?” Anna frowned, flipping the side of the chicken.
“I like that guy, Seth. If Sir Damien will be going back on his words, then I better call him now and tell him to cancel…”
“Wait!” Anna shouted as her younger sister whipped out her phone to call.
She didn’t want to be the reason Damien will lose the girl he loved again. If his plan was to marry her and then make her fall for him, she should let it play along.
“I was just saying. It’s not about Sir Damien. I just feel it’d be sad to leave the marriage after creating a bond. Also, people will say bad about you for being a divorcee, you know.” She chuckled nervously.
Arya replaced the phone back in her pocket. “I don’t care what people will say, it’s my life.”
Her sister made no more reaction, apart from the plastered smile on her face. The meal she was preparing got ready and she dished it out for her younger sister.
“Come eat, Arya. As you asked, I’d tell you a thing or two about Damien so you’d get along during the time you’d stay with him.” Anna said.
Arya plopped down on the dining seat and smiled at the meal in front of her. “Thanks, sis.” Her sister nodded on response.
“So you see, Damien is not someone you need to fear or anything. He has a cold exterior but is really warm inside.”
Arya glared at her sister. With her explanation, it sounded like she was still trying to make her love the man, she shook her head and continued eating.
“You won’t believe me? Then let me show you his picture, he’s really an eye candy.” Anna smiled, searching through her gallery for a picture.
“How can you have a guy’s photo when you have a boyfriend?” Arya accused.
“Please, do you know how many Kpop idols pictures in my phone? My boyfriend shouldn’t be jealous. Also, I knew Damien before him so he should stay chill.” She flared then sighed.
Arya laughed at her sister’s reaction and bit on her chicken. A picture was flashed on her face and her eyes darted to it. The piece of chicken, she had bitten, fell from her mouth back to the plate.
“Oh, you’re enthralled already? That’s not even his best picture. Here.” Anna smiled, while scrolling through her phone for more pictures of Damien.
Arya’s eyes shook as she saw each picture and realization hit her. Mr. Wade, her romance counselor was Sir Damien! How in the damn world had that happened?
Chapter Nine: Goddess Selena.Arya grabbed her sister’s phone and glared at it. That man was really Sir Damien. The picture she was looking at, Damien was wearing a white shirt and was cheering with some other students. The background looked like her sister’s university, the current university Arya attended. How could it be? She had met Sir Damien already without knowing. She slapped the phone on the table and screamed. “I told Damien about my marriage and spoke about feeling weird about it!”How could the universe be so cruel to her? She wanted the ground to open and swallow her that instant. Anna squinted her eyes. “Wait, you guys have met?” she took her phone away from the table, her sister was slamming. Her sister rose from the chair, in panic. “He helped me get the taxi I used to get here. You see those clothes?” She pointed at the bags she brought. “Damien helped me shop for them.” “That’s weird. Was he stalking you?” Anna frowned.Arya shook her head vehemently. “No, actu
Chapter Ten: If it becomes real. Arya ran to the standing mirror with the wedding gown, that had just been delivered and checked on it. She made a spin and smiled. “This is pretty.” Her smile fell. “And also very familiar.” She had seen a sample at the boutique, was the dress in trend? Perhaps when Damien shopped for it, he saw it and liked it. Her smile returned. At least, they had similar tastes in clothes. “What are you doing? Thinking of you two being compatible? Forget it, it’s a contracted marriage.” she dropped the gown to the floor. Why was Damien being so kind to gift her a gown? Did he know that she didn’t have a single coin with her to buy anything? “Arya! That dress belongs on your body and not the floor!” Anna shouted, entering her room. Arya picked it up hurriedly and threw it on the bed, she rushed to her sister’s side. “You said he called? What for? About me or something?” Why was she curious? Anna wondered. “He called to ask how my marriage plans with Jim are
Chapter Eleven: Child of Woe.A gentleman. Damien must be nothing but a gentleman. He swiftly agreed to the marriage being done in his absence and sent a car over to pick her up. Arya couldn’t help but feel these acts could swerve her earlier decisions of acting formal with Damien and only lovey-dovey in front of his mother. “I should also help him get a lady he’d fall in love with, it can’t be me.” she whispered to herself as Damien’s driver drove her to the venue. The car stopped in front of a huge building that didn’t look like a court house. Did he rent a place for the wedding? It wasn’t supposed to be that big. The driver opened the car door for her and she got out, wearing a smile. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome.” He replied and pointed inside. She picked up her flowing gown and walked into the building. Her eyes were down so she wouldn’t step on her dress and trip but when they went up, her jaw dropped. Only three people were in the building and they were all staring at he
Chapter Twelve: Miserable Thirteen. Damien looked out of the jet window. The pilot announced they’d be dropping soon and he heaved a sigh of relief. Those thirteen hours were the most depressing and challenging for him. He wanted to be there with his bride but he couldn’t miss the meeting. He went through everything to arrange a wedding but had to postpone it as he won’t be there. Why did she want it immediately? How exactly was the summit important to her than her own wedding? Or didn’t she take it serious? Even as the jet was about landing, Damien still felt like turning back and being the one to wed her but it was too late. It seemed also she didn’t mind or she wouldn’t have postponed it. The thought alone pained him. “Sir Damien, we are here.” A small lady tapped his arm. He looked up at her and she blushed. “We are here, sir.” He sighed. “I can see that.” She looked down and left. He sighed again. He shouldn’t have let Butler Jim at home and deal with new butlers that a
Chapter Thirteen – Drama. Epic. Just epic. Arya sat at the living room of the Wade’s mansion as even if it was as epic as the word, the argument happening on the first day of her marriage was more epic. She couldn’t calm her sister down, she could never. And Selena kinda needed someone to keep her in check. She wasn’t even apologetic when she and her mother walked home. And when they arrived at the mansion, they saw the car had a dent. She couldn’t drive. Her mother hoped it wasn’t a human she hit or that person was as good as dead. “What’s going on?” someone walked into the house and asked. Arya jumped to her feet but chilled when she saw it was the cousin that had stood in for Damien at the court wedding. He had left them there, hurrying for a important appointment. “Selena drove the car home alone. Since you took the other, mother and I, with the butler had to walk home.” She explained with a flat tone. He blinked twice then placed his hands on his waist. “Why did she do tha
Chapter Fourteen – Texting.Damien alighted the car and sighed, breathing in the air around his estate. He was going to start his walk down home as it was the only time he had to walk around freely. The half a plot space for walking and football was his idea when building the house because he needed a lot of time to think before getting home. As he took a step forward, while whipping out his phone to see the wedding pictures his mom sent, he heard the car door open again. He paused, his driver never walked with him but drove to the garage. Turning behind him, he saw it was Debby, he sighed. “I forgot you came with me.” The young girl frowned deeply. “I was with you all through in the car even if I sat behind. How could you forget my presence!” Damien smiled, she was always being para. “C’mon let’s go in.” He began making quick strides towards his mansion. He checked the pictures that his mom had sent him, he paused his steps when his eyes landed on Arya on the wedding dress. “I
Chapter Fifteen – I hate her. What was going on? Arya stabbed at the fish in her plate, she glanced at Damien who was on his laptop, sitting at the end of the room, then looked back at her fish. She really wanted to talk about the marriage contract. It wasn’t very specific but she assumed they’d create more terms when he returned from China but he hadn’t spoken of it. He made her sleep in the same bed, but far from her. Made her eat with him and kept her clothes in the same wardrobe with his. Like they were a freaking real couple! So far, he had been nice and soft with her and she couldn’t deny he looked hot while scolding his sister for being mean to her. However, they were just acting, only it felt like he wasn’t. “Not a fan of fish?” Damien asked, seeing she wasn’t eating. She took a bite and swallowed. “No, I’m good.” She replied, exhaling afterwards. She wasn’t a fan of fish actually, chicken was better. He tried to remember something Anna had said about her sister and fish
Chapter Sixteen – Fate. The coast was clear. Arya sighed, before walking out of the room to drop the tray of chicken bones she had with her. She had never eaten so heartily since she arrived there. Damien giving her chicken and rice then leaving the room for her to eat freely, had to be the nicest thing he had done for her. She sighed again, thinking of the satisfaction she got. She knocked when she got into the kitchen. There was no response but she barged in to see cooks and chefs, stunned. They all wore white uniforms with small caps. She bowed at them. “I wanted to clean this up quickly.” She showed them the tray but one of them took it from her and bowed back. Where they going to clean it? She tried to take it back but a chef stopped her. “Madam, please, let her do it. We serve you here. You can order for some other snack too.” Arya looked at her blankly. Serve? Snack? Order? Right, she was living with billionaires. She nodded with a smile. “Alright then, take care.” She bow
