4-Divorce

"We just acquired the land in the northern suburbs, and now the stock value has increased significantly compared to last year. Please don't stir up any trouble at this time, Mr. Russell. I know you are a influential man, and every woman in Collins City has her eyes on you... But even so, you need to be cautious and not get caught," Theresa said, holding her shoulders and speaking calmly, as if discussing a business deal.

"What trouble? You handled it all beautifully," William said, with a hint of a smile that quickly disappeared.

The newspaper was in its first edition and had not been mass-printed. Obviously, someone had suppressed it.

"The period is very short, and I almost have to run back and forth between the company and the site every day! The merchants for the interior decoration are causing some issues, and I'm already stretched thin. I don't have time to clean up after you anymore!" Theresa said, rubbing her forehead with a headache.

After William finished buttoning up his coat, he suddenly looked at her face seriously, and raised an eyebrow in a half-smile, "So, do you want a divorce?"

...

The night sky was dotted with stars.

Because there was only one study, William would never consider sharing it with her. Therefore, she designed a long desk by the bedroom window, covered it with a delicate carpet, and could work and drink freely.

Theresa sat cross-legged in front of the long table, holding her chin with one hand. Her eyes, slightly raised at the corners, were focused on a certain point on the desk.

"No," she said.

When William had casually thrown out the word "divorce" during the day, she had answered him immediately without hesitation.

Her eyes and mouth were both stretched out in plain view of the man, with only her hand behind her back, gripping tightly.

"Mama, I finished my milkshake!" The little boy came bouncing over, holding an empty cup.

Interrupted in her thoughts, Theresa looked up and spoke gently to her son, "Go wash your face and brush your teeth, Mama will tell you the story of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp later."

"Okay then!" Joe rushed off to the bathroom.

The sound of running water filled the air as she lowered her head to open the drawer and pulled out the file at the very bottom. It was the divorce agreement that William had given her a month after they got married, with his signature already on the last page.

So, was it time for a divorce?

This wasn't the first time he had brought it up in their six-year marriage. She knew from the moment he gave her the agreement that he was eager to end their entangled marriage. If she was in a good mood, she would respond like she did today. If not, she would simply ignore him. But she always made it clear to him that she wouldn't divorce him no matter what.

For the sake of their son and her own love, she couldn't let go easily. That was just who she was. She held onto what she wanted and never regretted her actions.

Without looking at the bold and powerful signature, she put the file back into the drawer and then stood up. She had been sitting cross-legged for too long, and her legs felt a bit stiff. Fortunately, her legs weren't as fragile as her heart, and moving around a bit made them feel better.

"Mom, come on, I want to listen to Aladdin!" The little guy had just run out of the bathroom, waving and climbing onto the bed, his two little bear slippers flying everywhere.

"Okay." Theresa finally smiled.

Thank goodness for her son, who made her feel tender-hearted again.

...

Afternoon, conference room.

The blinds blocked out the sunlight from outside, making the room bright but not too hot. Everyone was focused on listening to the proposal from the design department.

All departments worked together to pave the way for the suburban land, and the proposal from the design department was excellent. Everyone was eager to make their mark in the future.

William sat in the first seat on the left side of the conference table, always quiet and serious, occasionally nodding in agreement. However...

He looked over at the woman across from him, who was usually a workaholic and meticulous about everything, but was now distracted during the meeting.

The meeting ended, and everyone left the conference room.

As the elevator rose, the man walked out and headed to his office at a leisurely pace. Someone was following him, so he turned around.

"What?" He didn't have time to beat around the bush with this woman.

Theresa looked at him, holding her shoulders. It seemed like the most common thing he said to her was, " What's the matter?" "What's Wrong?" It was indifferent, cold, and even a little contemptuous.

"If there's nothing wrong, can I follow you around like a shadow?" She stepped aside, giving him room to pass and smiling brightly.

William ignored her verbal teasing and went straight to his desk, opened his computer, and looked at the several pieces of land recently invested by the government. Theresa, feeling bored, punched the cotton and composed herself, saying, "Grandma called this morning and asked me to come for dinner tonight."

As expected, the man immediately frowned upon hearing it. She continued slowly, "It seems that Grandma's two cousins came over, along with their daughter and grandson. Many people, apparently they will also play cards together after dinner. Here's the deal - you help me out, and I'll help you smooth things over with Grandma tonight."

William hated a bunch of unfamiliar relatives gathering together, causing headaches with their family gossip. "What kind of help?" He paused and looked up at her, agreeing to her terms.

Then, he saw a faint shyness on Theresa's face, which rarely appeared. "Can you... take bridal photos with me?"

...

After parking her car in the underground parking lot of the King's Mall, Theresa took the elevator to the sixth floor and easily found her friend Elizabeth in the private room. She had received a phone call from Elizabeth that morning. Since there was no need for her to follow up on the construction site today, and the mall was close by, she came directly to have lunch with her friend.

"This one, this one, and this one... this one's also good!" Elizabeth, wearing a long sweater and sneakers, was stroking her chin and saying to the sales clerk next to her, "Give me an invoice for everything I just picked!"

"Miss, are you sure you want all of them? Some of the ones you chose are limited edition, and the prices..." The sales clerk looked her up and down and had a slightly difficult expression.
