Adrian walked to his car and opened the passenger door for her.

“Of course I’ll take you home,” he said with a warm smile. “Come on.”

Vivienne nodded quietly. “Thank you.”

She walked toward the car, passing Dante without looking at him.

Panic flashed across Dante’s face. “Viv!” he called, hurrying after her.

He reached out and grabbed her wrist. “Please… don’t leave like this.”

Vivienne stopped walking.

For a few seconds, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

A few minutes later, Adrian pulled into the garage of a massive fancy building. He killed the engine and glanced over at her.Vivienne pressed her face against the window, her eyes going wide. The building stretched so high it seemed to poke holes in the clouds. Her jaw dropped. "Whoa," she breathed out.Adrian chuckled, shaking his head. "It's just a building."She whipped around to face him, eyebrows shooting up. "Just a building?" She threw her hands up. "Normal people don't live in places like this, Adrian!"He just smirked and got out of the car.Inside, the lobby made her stop in her tracks. Her mouth fell open. Marble floors gleamed under sparkling lights. Fresh flowers sat in giant vases in every corner.A doorman in a crisp uniform straightened up immediately. "Good evening, Mr. Hayes." He gave a little bow.Adrian gave a small nod and kept walking. Then they stepped into an elevator. Vivienne watched him pull out a key card and swipe it. The doors closed. She crossed her arm

ASHCROFT ESTATE ~ UPPER EAST SIDE, NEW YORK CITYAdrian pulled up in front of Vivienne’s mansion. The moment the car stopped, bright camera flashes lit up the street.Reporters crowded the front gate, shouting over one another as more news vans pulled in.Vivienne’s face drained of color. “W-What’s going on?”Adrian looked through the windshield and frowned.“Someone must have leaked what happened at the hospital.”He watched another reporter jump out of a van.“They’re here for you.”Vivienne’s heart pounded. “I have to go inside.” She reached for the door handle. “This is my home.”Adrian grabbed her wrist gently before she could open the door.“No.”She turned to him in surprise. “What do you mean, ‘no’?”“If you step out now,” he said, his voice calm but firm, “they’ll surround you before you even make it to the gate.”“They’ll shove microphones in your face, They’ll ask a hundred questions at once.”“And they won’t care that you’re tired or just got out of the hospital.”“The onl

Vivienne stayed quiet. She opened her mouth to speak, then closed it again. She had no answer.Adrian glanced at her before looking back at the road.“Maybe he doesn’t want to be with you,” he said gently. “But he also doesn’t want anyone else to have you.”Vivienne frowned and slowly shook her head. “That doesn’t make any sense.”Adrian gave a small shrug. “It doesn’t have to. Some people aren’t driven by love. They’re driven by control.”He tightened his grip on the steering wheel. “And right now, Dante is losing control over you. That’s what he can’t accept.”Vivienne turned to the window. The bright city lights rushed past, but she barely noticed them. She hugged herself and let out a quiet sigh.“I don’t understand him anymore,” she whispered. “I used to think I knew who he was. I really believed what we had was real.”Adrian looked at her for a moment. “Maybe it was,” he said softly. “But people change. Sometimes they become someone you don’t even recognize.”Vivienne nodded slo

Dante stormed toward Adrian, his face burning with anger.“Who the hell do you think you are?” he shouted. “Trying to flirt with my wife?”Adrian slowly turned to face him. He stayed calm, not the least bit intimidated.“My name is Adrian,” he said. “And I wasn’t flirting with her. She almost fainted and could have hit her head on the concrete. I was only helping.”“Stop lying!” Dante snapped. “I saw you touching her!”Adrian sighed. “No. You saw me catching her before she fell. That’s all.”“You think I’m an idiot?” Dante barked. “You were standing so close to her! You even touched her face!”Adrian shrugged. “She had a strand of hair covering her eyes. I moved it so I could see if she was okay. That’s it.”Dante let out a cold, angry laugh. “And now you’re telling me to calm down?”“Yes,” Adrian replied. “Because you’re making a scene for no reason.”Dante pointed a finger at him. “You’re hitting on my wife!”Adrian looked at him for a long moment before speaking. “Your wife?”A sma

Vivienne pressed her hand to her stomach. She hadn't told anyone about the baby. Not even Dante. She was going to tell him tonight. Before everything fell apart."It's none of your business," she said quietly.Adrian stepped closer, a slow smile spreading across his face. "None of my business? Sweetheart, I just caught you from cracking your head open. That makes me very invested."Vivienne blinked. "Sweetheart?""Would you prefer darling? Beautiful? Gorgeous?" He tilted his head, studying her. "I'm flexible. Tell me what works for you."Vivienne felt heat creep up her neck. "I prefer you stop talking."Adrian laughed. It was a warm sound, deep and genuine. "See, that's exactly the kind of fire I like. Most women just blush and giggle. You tell me to shut up. I respect that.""I'm married," Vivienne said flatly."I know," Adrian said, his eyes glinting. "I saw your husband in there. The one with the crying woman wrapped around his arm. Real prince charming, that one."Vivienne's face
